The MD that became known as the I-pod killer. heh.
theblueraja replied to Hatebreed's topic in The Loft
How I love to read stories like this... I even forwarded it MY portable player rivals here at work I'm sure their defense against ME personally will be "well your MD players don't crap out because you HAVE so many of them" -
Hi-MD decks/bookshelf systems: Onkyo X-B7/B8/N7/N9 etc.

... and what bargain prices too! -
I don't know if anyone else has touched on this topic, but I'll be bold. I understand that to keep things running here you need to post ads, etc... but is it possible to downsize the ever-annoying header that on a 1024x768 screen takes up almost the entire page EACH time you load a thread/topic here? Perhaps a more horizontal alignment of those 4 pics of the MD players/discs would help? I know I'll lose points for mentioning these things, but the load time and ease of use of other forums makes me visit them more often. This forum also takes much longer to load, and seems to allow more posts per page, thus making longer load times also... perhaps the number of posts per page could be minimized? It is very frustrating to get to the page, watch the four pics appear, then have to scroll down every time. Please don't take offense, these are all suggestions, and I'm speaking my mind, not trying to change the world. How about you put all those ads at the BOTTOM of the page, or did you promise the current location to the vendors? Thanks.

That is absolutely INSANE. Repairs are NEVER worth it. The average lower-end price for the DH10P on line now is about $215, just $25 more than your risky 'repair'... I'd get a new one or used one on ebay.
-
Cool man, glad all worked out... and I didn't know this was going to be a backup for you; funny how I sold a backup to become someone else's backup Yes, I think many people who have never held/used a DH10P aren't aware of what an incredible machine it is... I think the whole camera concept scares them away, when in reality, it's the LCD with the menus/album art etc that is just so amazing... but I suppose these thoughts should go in another thread, so anyway, glad you are happy.

Wow, that's TERRIBLE - sorry to hear that... and ya, once you have album images, it's tough going back... however, I've recently fallen in love with the MZ-EH1. That has NO display - lol. There is hope?
-
I just bought another batt from Libflea (Ebay) again because I now have an EH1 in addition to my DH10Ps... so I'll have a total of 6 LIP-4WMs around
-
Wrong there, my friend... I work in television and most of the Sony 'pro' gear as it were (like HD digital record decks, etc - up in the 15-20 thousand dollar range) have many deep, difficult to find menus & setup screens.
-
And so the tables turn.... BUAH-HA-HA!!! (sorry for your misfortune)
-
I haven't tried the manual snaps, but I'm sure they'd look fine considering how small the image size is as the icon. As far as future md/cameras? MD is nearly dead as is other than Sony possibly releasing a pro-recorder model every now and then. The DH10P in some ways marked the very last effort for Sony to make an exotic player. I don't have any proof to back up my statement, other than how MD is disappearing from stores more each day, etc...

ooooo, Mac = no SS? Simple; get a PC

You don't need to take a pic of the album... that's just a feature in the camera (pointless if you ask me)... all you need is an image (be it from amazon, internet google search, etc.) and you just drag it into the box. You want to make sure it is a SQUARE in ratio, otherwise you will get a border to try to fit a rectangle into a square shape... if that makes any sense.

What if he has a car accident tomorrow? Life is full of risks and 'what ifs'... bottom line is, I've heard no accounts of battery leakage or damage by ANY LIP-4WM. Sounds like everyone here that wants to pay more is paying for some psychological insurance or are afraid of the "too good to be true" sale. Slightly off-topic but to illustrate a point, Borders Books STILL sells the 600D minidisc player for $199.99. Does that mean the average REAL price of the unit which is about $80 on line will leak or explode on you? Ok, ok, it's still the exact same Sony product that is sealed, etc... not exactly like this battery situation, but still the point I'm making is there are price gaps out there, don't let that scare you.
-
The DH10P has been my main unit for quite some time now... pardon the phrase, but it is the iPod of MD in my opinion (due to the beautiful display screen... a rare thing in MD players in general). As far as 'collectible,' I think ANY minidisc player is collectible since they are becoming more rare each day. I currently own THREE DH10Ps; my main everyday unit, a backup unit that I also use for charging my LIP-4WM batteries, and a third boxed one for years down the road should my other two get damaged somehow. If you haven't seen my REVIEW of the DH10P, check it out here

Mine did not come in the cases either, but this was the seller's response when I asked "liebflea" about that before bidding: "Only a battery in a clearn plastic bag.but we guarantee they are original new products, not used.please check the picture, what you see is what you get." Whatever... I use them, they seem fine to me.
-
Well I even buy my barge poles on Ebay... no problems. As long as you watch feedback history of sellers and use a lot of common sense, it's a great alternative. But still thanks for your info, that still is a great price!

That guy probably works at Kinko's (copy store) nights.
-
Yeah, here's a hint for Ebay searches; try a few different spellings or versions of what you are looking for... you'd be surprised how much stuff you find searching for minidisk versus minidisc for example.
-
That's because I keep buying them
-
Somewhere between bravery and stupidity, or sheer frugalness I may win in the end
-
Have you noticed no one has said "iPod" yet?
-
I would build a time machine and set it for 2005 and buy a bunch of DH10Ps... and lots of batteries... never mind going to the FUTURE and getting some music brain implant... go HiMD!!

I ordered 3 batteries from the "China" seller on Ebay (one by itself a long time ago) and 2 more just recently. I haven't even charged the 2 latest yet, but I read positive thing about them via the Audio T-board so I'm taking the chance. I think $50 is ABSURD for one of those puppies. Should any of these from China 'explode' or go bad, etc... I'll let you know, in the meantime I'll enjoy the savings.
