  1. I find it interesting that I truly never intended to use the camera part of the DH10P when I originally bought it... looking back, it is the MOST-used camera I own, and I have a nice Canon PowerShot S2 and a Razr cell phone cam. The Canon is too bulky for everyday use, the cell phone simply sucks, and the DH10P is the perfect medium... oh, and its my MUSIC PLAYER!
  2. Hmmm... sorry if I jinxed you. As far as a solution, I call it a cross between faith, forgiveness... and well, I guess stupidity, because I still love this unit. My silver one has been behaving much better lately... maybe it has to do with moisture or something that eventually clears up, I don't know.
  3. Of course the connector requires a sony USB... however, photos saved are saved on the minidisc... so ANY HiMD unit hooked up to a computer will be able to transfer the data. I use a NH900 for all my PC-Sonic Stage - and photo transfers... it just sits always hooked up to the PC... Anyway, it comes with a LIP-4WM that you can buy real cheap now on ebay (get lots of backups, I have like 8 now), but you can also use the cradle to power & play tunes with ( more on the cradle here _)... as a camera, I think it's actually INCREDIBLE and suits my 'snap-shot' share on the net type photos... but for a BETTER specific review of the camera: GO TO THIS LINK!! In a nutshell: PRO: The DH10P rules in sound quality and the camera is excellent CON: Battery life is lame compared to typical MD portables, and the camera doesn't have a REAL "flash" so low-light conditions not good
  4. I have a feeling that HiMD gear isn't as sturdy as the classic legacy units... the classic saying "they don't make them like they used to" may hold true. I dropped an RH10 several times, and several times too many... it went bad on me. Though I must admit my NH900 has taken quite a beating and still works well
  5. Agreed. I used to be rough on my units, now I baby them in cases, use remotes, etc... What I love about your story is hearing how many hard drops that unit DID survive. Awesome. If you haven't heard the term "beater unit" yet, then that's what many of us suggest when it comes to rugged, outdoor on-the-go situations. For instance, I would never take a prized MZ-EH1 outside for anything other than walking out to get the mail, but even then it would be in a case. I use an NH900 for my rugged stuff only because I HAD dropped it many times and its my first unit (still kicking)... but a DH710 or 600D would be perfect to have as a safety if you want another nice hi-end MD player.
  6. I posted this at the Audio T-board, but thought I'd share it here too... Some may know me by now for both my praise & review of the MZ-DH10P, as well as my rant & rave of the very same unit. Well here we are, a couple years later since I bought my first DH10P from Japan (black model), and now I've come full circle to finally splurge on the color that I REALLY wanted, many silver models later. Alas, I now own a black MZ-DH10P!! Enjoy the pics.
  7. I'm confused... first you say the RH-1 was the LAST major investment, then you say "there will probably be some new players (MD) "... so would that be a MINOR investmeant, meaning cheaper models or what?
  8. I've never heard of a farewell-type product release... it doesn't sound like a great marketing strategy. But then again, Sony never was good at marketing.
  9. Just posted up on Ebay. LINK HERE Thanks.
  10. I still stand behind what I said... MD is NOT in "general" use, which to me means common in society. I suppose anyone could argue if ONE person on the planet uses it daily it is getting general use, but I think you get my point. And believe me, I stand behind MD 100% and plan to use it for a long time... you're talking to a guy who has 11 HiMD portables and 1 HiMD deck here folks.
  11. According to Dictionary.com, the first definition for obsolete is: 1. no longer in general use; fallen into disuse. So, technically MD's HAVE become obsolete.
  12. open source... ok, but what does that mean? I looked at the link and it showed all sorts of raw data... so can you explain this to me like I was a 5th grader? Thanks.
  13. Welcome to the world of minidisc in the 21st century. Both units and HiMD media will be hard to come by now, certainly in retail stores but even more so in the next few years on line. Other than Ebay, eventually you may only find one on line source... the same one that sells reel-to-reel tape and beta. That said, that won't stop the die hard MD users at all. We know why this product is so good (and cool), and so many of us tend to "stock pile" our units and media for the future. So should you find a deal, splurge now. If you think you may use a different format in 5 years, don't worry about it and just buy a bunch of blanks on line right now. I have found Ebay to be the best and most economical way of getting blank HiMD discs. On the average I get 5 HiMD discs for $35 USD shipped.
  14. I am on the hunt for any TDK XA-PRO minidiscs you may have (used or new, new preferred). Email/PM me if you have any, I use Paypal, and will pay a generous amount (especially for NEW). Thanks!
  15. Hey man, I do Nine Inch Nails, Portishead, Red Jumpsuit Aparatus, Reggae Dub, minimal techno, and yes, cheesy teen pop. I love music. I like the corporate pop machine that generated N'Sync & Company. No shame, or I would not have included her in my pics. To each his own.
  16. What is really unique about this site is how they will custom-design a case to supposedly any MD player you tell them... cases.com But what I'd like to know is 1) how does it LOOK (they have like ONE generic photo used for every case on the site, and it's just one angle, etc.), and 2) how tight is it? Meaning does it allow for a remote plug-in to the side of your md unit to let a chord dangle out of the case? I would really appreciate anyone who has one of these cases to post pics. Thanks.
  17. If you liked the NH900, and were comfortable with it, get another one via Ebay. I'd recommend that or getting a used NH1; solid machine there. Batteries shouldn't be too much of a problem if you have several handy & charged, unless you have to record something that is really long (like a concert or performance).
  18. It has been established that the MC35ELK stick remote is the only Sony remote other than the 40ELK that allows more than one line of text on the screen, however, only on a small handfull of select units, all being NON-HiMD. Anyone here think it is possible to HACK a HiMD unit to allow 2 lines of type on that remote?? It seems like such an oversight on Sony to not allow this feature for any unit at least created AFTER the ones that came with the 35ELK.
  19. What is an eq hack?? Are you looking for being able to save multiple custom EQs or something? Thanks.
  20. I actually fell in love with the LOOK and IDEA of the format back in like 1994/95 when I was considering a method to store my band recordings digitally. I really really WANTED to get MD because I loved how cool it looked, but due to fear of obsolesence and how DAT was the standard for professional submissions be it Radio or CD plants, I went with DAT. Then just over two years ago (Fall 2004).... gosh I can't even remember what got me to look at minidisc again to be honest. But I stumbled across the new Hi-MD format, and saw a reason to reconsider the format based on the "new" release of the 1-gig discs, etc... so I bought an MZ-NH900. Grrr... I'm so mad that I can't even remember how I revisited this format to put me where I am now... a fanatic w/ multiple units lol
  21. My understanding is that the RH1 does NOT display track NAMES or CHARACTERS... correct? Just numbers??
  22. Keep in mind when it comes to Ebay, "value" is completely subjective, and quite fickle... one month something goes for a huge price, then a month later the same thing for nothing. I understand what you all are saying about the prices, and I've also noticed that even the FREQUENCY of HiMD units being posted is decreasing, but either way, there will always be someone selling them on Ebay in the long run... stock up on your units now I say
  23. Excellent point... and I hear Amazon.com is finally going to offer mp3s, and possibly non-DRM, but I'm not positive.
  24. I have experienced the same restriction... very annoying. I paid for the darn file. I also think it is rediculous that when you pay for music to get it at such a low bitrate. I should be like 356k or whatever.
