Heres a another hint...You don't run a 52x CDROM from a AA battery.
-
Apparently. I don't have one but theres been other threads on the RH1's MP3 playback that indicate that its decent.
-
You can't record in the MP3 format on a HiMD. If you mean you have transferred them? The RH1 is meant to have better playback.
-
I've just notice that the joystick controller up and down controls groups not vol as it does on other models. Why on earth does Sony keep changing the controls layouts from one model to the next.
-
Well I've just seen a RH1 in local Sony Store in Ireland. €379 which is $485 US. Bargain eh?
-
Whereever you find it. Remove it.
-
Would the laser keep up though?

I don't see how that is explained by What has Type S got to do with it? http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16069 On reading about bits etc, I found these links. Others might be interested in them http://ccrma.stanford.edu/courses/192b/ http://ccrma.stanford.edu/courses/192b/lectures/3/3.html http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_3_3/v3n3n.html http://www.24bitfaq.org/

Found this on the web. Which is Type-S? And from here http://www.minidisc.org/part_Decks_Sony.html
-
While that make a difference, I doubt it makes that much of a difference. Maybe it does.
-
Actually I don't know what you mean. About the chips being Sony or 24-bit, bit.
-
I suspect thats FW vs USB1.1 But regardless what has latency to do with HiMD/MD though? I wish my HiMD had faster transfer aswell. Its one of the bit drawbacks of the player. I'd like to know the specifics of how the RH1 achieves faster speeds.
-
How does that sit with a RH1 then, which "does" the old formats, codecs, disks etc.
-
HiMD play legacy disks and formats. Can the RH1 record in them?
-
Yeah non-HiMD gear.
-
What else is it used in?
-
In my opinion SP is a tiny bit better than HiSP. But HiSP is vastly easier to manage, well until the RH1 as the none of the earlier players had proper SP support. LP2 I simply wouldn't bother with, its a huge drop (in my opinion) from HiSP. But of course if you are happy with LP2... For a rough practice I'd use HiSP, at a gig or a demo for getting gigs I'd use PCM. If you are happy with LP2 then HiSP would me more than enough for you. SP 292kps HiSP 256kps LP2 132kps.

Use the disks as backup and stick them all on a HD and remove any DRM thats attached to them.
-
I guess since the OP asked for legacy MD thats a MD 74min (160mb) disk.
-
First generation MD players only had SP only. LP2/LP4 came later.
-
I've LP2/LP4 on my old Sony, and a a HIMD with HiLP. I couldn't listen to either, maybe HiLP is better than LP2 but its still not good. I know other find it ok, each to their own.
-
As would higher bitrates of the other codecs.

Based on his usual highly technical reasoning, HiMD because it blows
