  1. "Positive Moral Brand" ? How so???
  2. Yes its beens posted everywhere. But I assume the vast majority of consumer items these days are produced in low cost countries. The distinction between Japanese made HiMD's and models made in other countries has been discussed before. Apple is not alone in doing it.

    Hi-MD

Other non Sony players simply don't have those kinda issues. You can load 60GB faster than you could load up 3 1GB HiMD disks.
  4. You have to add the price of a machine to that. Not in a hurry is an understatement. They are glacially slow.
  5. What so Sony stuff is ok Apple stuff isn't
  6. I don't want to HAVE to remember to charge it everyday.
  7. Well I don't see the point of using HiMD as a 1GB USB1.1 storage when you can buy a 4G USB 2.0 memory stick for half the price of a HiMD unit. IMO its a half assed feature without without USB2 and drag and drop for music.
  8. Bought a MC38EL from China aswell. Works perfectly. Cost me $0.99 plus postage. Was under €15 I can't remember exactly.
  9. FLAC >>(JetAudio )>> WMA-L >>(SonicStage)>> LP2 Be easier just to keep two libraries. One with FLAC the other with LP2.
  10. Since SonicStage itself only works on Windows that not much of an advantage is it.
  11. I'm a fan of the scroll wheels on the units aswell. Much easier. Pity the screen is so small. I got the MC38EL so I could use my MH700 in the dark. But find I don't really like using it.
  12. I've tried across 3 different machines. No problem playing oma ripped on once machine on a different one. Mind you I do turn off all DRM when I'm prompted for it when installing SS. So theres no DRM on any of these tracks.
  13. What kinda drive space does it take using WAV? What about tagging?
  14. Well I transferred them to HiMD which I'm listening to today. I didn't check if they were locked to the machine that ripped them. I'll have to check that. If thats what you are thinking. I don't think they are. I'll do a specific check later.
  15. Well I tried it and I didn't like it. It takes ages and it deletes everything from SonicStage before you do it. In my opinion an easier way is to simply copy all the OMA files and their respective folders from the SonicStage library. Mine are all in R:\My SonicStage. I copied these to an external 180GB USB2 drive. Then used Karens Replicator to synch it with the My SonicStage on another machine. The steps were as follows. Using SS 4.0 (US on one PC, European on the another other PC and Laptop). 1) Synch SonicStage dir on Source PC with copy on USB (180GB) drive using Karens Replicator. 2) Synch using Karens Replicator from USB drive to SonicStage dir on destination PC. 3) Del SonicStage library (but don't delete tracks from HD when prompted). 4) Drag and Drop SonicStage dir on destination PC into SonicStage window. 5) Select All Tracks and mark them all as Compilation 6) Switch back to Album mode. Since Karens Replicator only copies the differences its a lot quicker than copying or backing the whole library. Before I started I moved all my WAV's I move my WAVs a different folder for editing with another application outside of SS which is why I don't leave them in SS. I also deleted the optimised files from SonicStage to make it quicker. Just left the 256kps HiSP tracks I use with my HiMD. If you use WAVs's in SS and have a lot of Optimised files I'm not sure how that would work with this process. Maybe its the same, I haven't thought about it. I read about people having problems with losing their SS libraries when they get corrupt. Seems simple enough just to keep a backup of it using this method. I use a couple of USB drives to back up my MP3 library and other data. Now I'll drop my SS library on them aswell. It also means I can clear my SS library when I'm just working with recordings and then just add the playback tracks when I need them. I know a few others have posted similar techniques, and this is a copy of those sort of. I'm mp3 playerless at the moments (one broke the other I sold) so I'm forced to use my HiMD as a player for a while, until I decide which mp3 HD player to get next.
  16. The SDK is more interesting. Anymore info on that?
  17. I dunno. Personally I prefer CDWAVE to using the HiMD to do it.
  18. Does anyone keep their SS library in WAV, only encoding to ATRAC when transferring to MD/HiMD? Wondering how that works for you?
  19. I never considered looking for new units. Certainly looking specifically looking for those model numbers finds a few. In fact more than when I search by HiMD did! Might pick up a cheap 2nd unit myself!
  20. The reason I use HiMD for my own recording of cassettes and other sources instead of my laptop or PC is that its just easier to put the HiMD beside the source than the laptop or PC. Also I reckon like Avrin that the ADC (audio to digital convertor) in the HiMD is better than in my sound card I use with my PC or Laptop.
  21. Is it possible to backup SS to another machine, or synch libraries across machines? I assume not with all the DRM.
  22. Its not bad at the gaps. Not perfect though. I import the files as waves and combine them usually. Then I use CDWAVE to edit them as I often want a different length of silence at the start and end of the track than SS has created/allowed. It will also alow me to use lame or FLAC or WAV to encode the finished recording. I just like CDWAVE though. Nice simple app, but hugely useful. http://www.milosoftware.com/cdwave/description.html OK fair enough I don't think that MD/HiMD are the only DAPs out there with decent amps though.
  23. Impedance matching problems and poor shielding, or poor quality components like volume controls etc. I'm guessing. My HiMD doesn't have a HD and I've no hiss. I don't think any of my portables do, Flash or HDD. Or more accuately I can't hear any with my lo fi earphones.
