I was a bit taken aback when I say one in the shop. Much prefer the NH1 aswell.

Sad to see this post on the forums. Its really not appropriate. Its doesn't help that its so out of date its unreal. The ship yards are limping along and its over 60 years since the north had any strategic importance. Most of the industries in the North have needed the financial crutch from the UK to support them for decades. Irleland is simply not economical for heavy industries. We have no natural resorces to sustain such industries. The only thing Belfast had going for it was that it was a natural deep water port. However the services in the North like the UK, health, etc are much better than in the South, the infrastructure is better and better run. Even the roads are better in the North. The South has one of the highest cost of living in the World. The people keeping the conflict going are in the minority. Most people are just not interested in it anymore. Yes there is still bigotry and prejudice, espectially within the establishment, but its nothing like what it was 10-20yrs ago. The south has had a huge influx of immigrants, and refugees from all over the world. Its a multicultural society and the troubles in the north is a throwback to past history that many people just have no interest in. In fact they would see the immigrants as a bigger problem then the conflicts in the North. The paramilitary groups from all sides all have strong links to criminality, and for most people that destroys any credibilty that groups have. The world and the south has moved on. The history of the north really is too complex for most people and they have some vague understanding of the whole thing. At end of the day this all started way back in the 12th century. Your arguing about medival history for crying out loud. However what happened then is no excuse for keeping it going almost 1000yrs later. The troubles in present day really came out of partition in 1921 and the Civil Rights' Movement in the 60's. These days its more about robbing banks and control of the criminality in the various areas.

I thinking using a PC or a HD MP3 player would have been more...elegant if you needed to record radio that badly.
-
Ok thanks. I guess it would impact on the earphones you can use.

Whats the euro vol on the different 1st gen and 2nd gen HiMD. MZ-NH1 5mw MZ-NH900 2.8mw (hacked to 5mw) How does this compare to the 2nd gen units. I ask because theres a lot of talk about the weak output of the Euro capped HD players and the CD player.
-
Apologies but I'm going to withdraw this for sale. I've had to go back to using this player myself as my other portable died. Once I get a replacement this will be back for sale up here. Probably in 2 weeks or so. Those that have PM'ed already will get preference. Again apologies .
-
Does this mean it is the case on the 1st gen but not the 2nd gen?
-
I have a Sony G750 and I love having a radio aswell. Its such a pity theres none on the new units.
-
I'll reply shortly. I got a lot of replies about this, and I wasn't expecting so many. It will take me a day or so to get back to every one.
-
I have a Sony G750 which is occasionally giving me disk errors so I reckon its going to stop working with disks soon. However the remote (with the FM radio) is still good, and the I have the AC charger/adapter. So maybe someone wants it for parts, or the remote etc. If so let me know. Its only worth posting to UK or Ireland.

Yeah I know. But as a data storage medium USB 1.1 is too slow. If want to put a 200MB file on there it just takes too long in USB1.1 . So it means carrying another device. MD is only for music. Of course if you only need a few mb then may its ok. But I'd just email that kinda data to myelf.
-
Actually you are right. Theres nothing esle with all those features,There areHD units like a Creative Jukebox or a iRiver H1xx which do WAV recording. But I had assumed all the flash players could record a WAV but nearly all of them record in low bitrates and only to MP3. I did find this, but its not a general purpose player though. http://www.jakeludington.com/gadget_envy/2...3_recorder.html So I was wrong...
-
I know but you can still wish... Transfering large amounts of data across USB 1.1 is painful.
-
Where are you The UK?
-
How much would you looking for the nhf800
-
Lots of features up there I'd like to have. But USB 2.0 and decent MP3 playback. I need my portable audio to be a fast data drive, and I'm not reencoding or transcoding my MP3 library to a propiretary format.

The iPods earphone out is pretty poor, theres a bass roll off and adjusting the eq to improve the sound reduces the sound quality further. The Shuffle however has fantastic quality from its earphone output. Best of any MP3 player probably. The sound quality from the iPods line out (via dock, portable dock) is apparently excellent. Most Audiophiles will use Apples lossless or ACC at a very high bitrate via the lineout and via a portable amp. Thats pretty much as good sound quality as you can get. Personally I've always found Sharp MD to sound a lot better than Sony's. But even my Sony G750 sounds better from the earphone socket then an iPod earphone socket. With the 2nd Gen HiMD you have the problem with MP3 sounding worse than ATRAC files. I like the idea of AA batteries rather than gumstick batteries. SO I'm kinda disappoint I can't get a 2nd Gen with good MP3 playback, internal AA a line in, and line out, and a FM radio. Also it should have USB2. Criminal that it doesn't. However the Apple units are players not recorders and thats a fundamental difference, which makes all comparisions null and void. The iPods+iTunes as a package is a better MP3 player, than the MD.
-
Theres quite a few MP3 flash players that are 1G can take a AA battery and can record to wav. Dunno about the mic preamp.
-
What are the "qualities" you are talking about?
-
Anyone use this? http://syndetics.net/sony-hacks/sonicstage.html

The main strength of the MD is battery life, and size. IN addition for the AA units you can pick up a spare battery anywhere. In every other area of portable audio and recording theres a better device IMO. Personally I'm still using the old MD units because I like the sound, and I can pick them up dirt cheap second hand. MP3 players on the whole are too expensive. If I could get a IRiver H series in the MD size using AA batteries and had the itunes (not iPod) interface and playlists that would be my ideal. Has to be cheap too. In the meanwhile back to my realtime recording....sigh...
-
If they upgraded the 1st gen units and they are cheaper than the 2nd gen, it would hurt sales of the new units. That just wouldn't make economic sense. Sony do not have a track record of doing the customer any favours for goodwill. You usually have to beat/sue it out of them.
-
I only use the remote when I'm wallking. When I'm at a desk or using it to record I don't use the remote at all. Hate the extra tangle.
-
Its stupid. Its a pain when your out at night and you can't see the display. Sony design has fallen a loooong way lately. Other players have them. So should the Sony. End of story.

If you are recording SP onto a standard MD reformatted to HiMD. How much recording time do you have. SP being better quality than HiSP from what I'm reading here.
