  1. as the program only transfers MP3 and 1st gen can't play MP3 nor convert it on the fly and only Mac-compatible machines are able to upload to mac, I really doubt that connecting a 1st gen HiMD to mac and opening HiMD music transfer will do anything remarkably interesting but if you really need proof of this, I'll try it as soon as I get near my NH900 (in my desk at work at the moment and I'm working from home right now)
  2. do you have any windows skins running? if so, turn it off completely uninstall (see the pinned threads in the software section) SS and reinstall 4.0
  3. haha... in a Belgian journal, there was this NH600 pictured with TWO headphone outs (well, they just pretended the line-in was one, but it still looks very funny if you're into MD a bit ) PS: I'll try to find it again and scan it for everyone to have a laugh
  4. skins for windows are also known to freeze SS so if you've got any of them, turn them off further it would be helpful if you read and posted following the rules (i.e. give more info -> get more (useful) response...)
  5. indeed, just got the same crap as well... still, his lines to fool spam-checkers didn't fool mine I'd love to see someone coming down hard on idiots like this Robert Soloway... what's his problem? Mommy didn't cuddle him enough when he was young? repressed sexuality? didn't have any friends?... I guess this is still a bit beter than the 'shopping mall + automatic gun" option, but this still is the very annoying work of a socially disabled money-hogging excuse for a human being IMHO sorry for that bit of dark proze there, but I really hate spammers
  6. skins for windows also fight with SS so if you are running any, try turning them off
  7. the only (Hi)MD that will be able to digitally upload your NetMD recordings is the RH1. It is the one and only MD able to upload pre-HiMD recordings through USB so it's very simple, if you have a friend with the RH1, you are in luck... if not, just use the realtime line/headphone out on MD -> line in on PC/Mac tehcnique and learn to live with the slight SQ loss
  8. Rumz, I'm sure you did know what it really was... I'm not correcting you in any way, just avoiding a lot of posts going: 'you said it was d-n-d! it isn't and know I have bought into a technology that doesn't do what I really wanted so now I'm gonna whine about it here till everyone gets tired of it' indeed, I do prefer this over the SS library, but real drag-n-drop would have been even better
  9. bump: added a full club show to the gallery section: Mogwai live @ Domino festival 2006 (@ the AB in Brussels) - the full show is uploaded to the gallery, but in an edited version (long applause and some tuning of instruments etc was cut out with fade in/fade out) so it would fit one audio CD and because I accidentally pressed stop in stead of pause (that lousy NH900 all will be better with my RH1 ) I missed the beginning of the encore ('Mogwai Fear Satan') which was 'fixed' by crossfading it into the noisefest at the end of the last song of the main set ('We're No Here')... but this isn't exactly very good when encoded in MP3 as it isn't gapless ergo crossfading doesn't really work! - the tracks uploaded are in Lame VBR MP3 at average bitrate of 200kbps so you can still enjoy it in relatively high quality. - because of the 'strange behaviour' of the galleries (first uploaded track is arranged last) the concert is uploaded back to front but this should be easily fixed, as I've numbered the tracks - two tracks I don't know the name of... if you are a Mogwai fan and know what they are, PM me and I'll fix it *edit: just relistened to my entire Mogwai collection and I've added the tracktitles myself (both tracks came from the 'Happy songs for happy people' album I only recently acquired) - I used the setup as described in the first post of this thread, but in stead of sunglasses, I used my own prescription glasses (I quit using contacts almost completely) - I was standing right with my back to the mixer and tried very hard not to move at all during the concert Mogwai is a tape-friendly band! please feel free to share this recording, but please respect the copyright/copyleft/CC ideas and do not try to make any profit in doing so and please do give credit to the recordist (i.e. me, The Low Volta aka The Lowest Volta aka TLV aka Mr.SMIT) hope you enjoy it as much as I did/still do... please feel free to give feedback here or in the live-rec gallery
  10. the drag-n-drop as raintheory has already corrected himself is only for the stage of selecting which MP3's are to be put on the HiMD... it is by no means real drag and drop, as the HiMD music transfer program still 'writes/inserts' them into the HiMD-file on the disc and they can not be seen as separate MP3's in data mode or anything on the disc. another consequence of this is that MP3's added with a mac, cannot be uploaded to SS. On my SS4.0 it does try to, but then gives an error saying that the path to the folder for saving uploaded music is incorrect (which it definitely isn't as it is just to the standard 'my music' folder and this works like a charm for all other uploads) still, this program is great news for me (and probably also for the rest of the mac users around here) now I will have to learn to work with lame (I use the brilliant 'import with lame' script for itunes by the blacktree ppl) so I can get the best sounding MP3s that are still a bit smaller than HiSP preferably. If only I could find a way to make 'em gapless
  11. lol minispecs... I'm afraid the g-friend wouldn't like that my setup really was inspired by greenmachine's brilliant mics and B-box and also his idea of attaching mics to glasses with heatshrink tube, so I really can't take all the credit for it. I have perfected my 'posture' and also the ability to choose a good recording spot (well at least in clubs, still having a hard time making a decent festival recording IMHO). I will try to post some more clips to the gallery (but I was having issues before)
  12. try to erase the disc with the recorder itself, then it should work again. another option is to reformat the disc with Simple Burner I've noticed that SS4.0 wants to import all music on a disc if you decide to erase it all (with HiMD) but if it tries to do so with NetMD as well, this could cause problems... is there any way to turn this off?
  13. haha... this is exactly the way I'm going to concerts nowadays... except I AM the recordist for hire
  14. none of the provided links worked for me, but by using the second link Peter Y provided I got into the Sony asia pacific support site and going to downloads/personal audio showed the link to the mac software on the right... it's downloading now and I can't wait to get it working! I wonder whether anyone has experimented with Lame gapless ripping... does it work and does the RH1 play these files gaplessly? I don't care about shifted trackmarks! oh, my download is finished... got to go
  15. I as well sparky and additionally I have the use of a couple of gb's on a secured server at work which serve as a backup fo the most important stuff I couldn't imagine myself using HiMD disc for this...honestly
  16. I haven't had the pre-amp overload yet with unamplified music, and I fear that using a battery-box and line in will sound much to silent for unamped music. Still I think contacting SP would be a good idea or you could always contact greenmachine who builds very good mics himself (not really a fan of cardioids either though)
  17. sorry, but no... as has been said often before, there are cheap replacements for all of these... they are either USB/flash sticks or CDr's depending on your personal taste. Both last long enough for standard use and for ppl needing longer lasting media, there are other (semi-pro or pro) options than a HiMD disc which work faster hell, external drives are so cheap now that even your average joe has two of them to keep simultaneous backups and will never lose anything again HiMD is good at what it does... it is a brilliant recording medium till someone has the brains to bring out a device with the same options and in the same price range, but with removable flash for storage
  18. with an RH910, there is no way to upload music through USB to a mac, period. you can use a line out -> line in 3,5mm-3,5mm cable setup and record it in e.g. garageband or audacity, but no SS-like transfers with the mac-compatible machines (MZ-M10/M100/RH1) you can use HiMD-transfer for mac which will allow you to upload your own HiSP/HiLP or PCM recordings to mac and transfer them to wav, after which you can do whatever you want with them... but this pogram will not work for the non-mac-compatible models, like the RH910 and one other remark... "test it before buying"? if someone ever charged you for SS3.4 (or any other version of SS), please go back and hit that person in the face as he has taken advantage of you all Sony software for HiMD has been free, unless you need it on a CD, in which case Sony will charge you for the CD and the postage costs sorry to bring bad news, but with the RH910 you will not have mac-compatibility ever I'm afraid
  19. with LiION it is better not to let the battery discharge too deep (unlike with NiMH which is better fully discharged before recharging) so I just recharge it whenever I have the chance... this is better on the battery and is also very convenient as I have almost always got a fully charged battery for more info on battery behaviour and service, read the www.batteryuniversity.com as it offers lots of good advice
  20. when using WMA-lossless in SS it will introduce gaps on the discs as well, so I'm not sure whether WMA can do gapless
  21. ok a couple of things...: - have you read the rules (the link with the red exclamation point at the top of this page) in the meantime? please do, it could always be useful as it might concisely explains the basic stuff we need to know if we want to help you (like mentioning the system you are running, it could be a Me-bug!) - also it might bring up details neither you nor I am thinking of right now (what other programs are running, virus protection, anti spyware etc...) - are the discs accidentally write-protected? (the small slider on the disc itself) - are the discs empty, almost full, old, new, ... - is the machines battery full (with HiMD this is not necessary, but with NetMD I dunno) - can you record anything from another source (or is the MZ-NE410 a downloader only?) - does SS reach a certain % of transferring before failing? ... (perhaps others will chip in with more ideas, but try to read the rules and post as much detail as you can) on the issue of the MP3s: - MP3 stores info (title, artist, ...) in tags (ID3 tags mostly) - these tags are normally constructed following a couple of standardised rules (by the MP3 encoding program) so each MP3 player understands the tags and can show the info - some encoders (like winamp) do not always follow these rules to the letter and this creates non-standard tags (if you did not create the MP3s yourself, but downloaded them or something, it could well be that the tags aren't standardised) - SS is an MP3 'reader' but it only understands completely standardised tags. MP3s with non-standard tags will be interpreted as a unknown and unsupported format. - If this is the case (there are other possibilities as well) just retag the problem-MP3s with a program that uses standard tags (I don't really know for sure, but I believe iEatBrainz does this easily) - if this isn't the case, it could be that they are not in a standard frequency/bit depth themselves (not 44,1/16) as lots of podcasts are... but I dunno much about that myself
  22. have you listened back to the tracks on your PC? and have you studied the relevant parts as waveform in audacity or something like it? If the problem parts do not show as strange sectors in the waveform, I very much doubt it that the minidisc recording or the uploading/converting to wav cause the problem... this sounds to me (but I am not really computer savvy, mind you) like a problem burning cds. Have you tried just burning a cd not from old recordings? Does that cause errors as well? otherwise, please read and post according to the rules so we can get all possible additional info and try to help you further
  23. ah indeed, I didn't know there were caroids used here... I guess cardioids would benefit from a fixed raised position; but that would be difficult to combine with stealth-requirements
  24. just hold your head 15cm (or about 5 inches) lower at a concert and listen to what you are hearing then... I really like the mics mounted on glasses idea, I did this with the help of a sports-retainer (or what they are called, sometimes called croakies) for glasses and greenmachine has this neat little trick with heatshrink tube and a pair of fake/sun/reading glasses this way your head acts as a stereo separator and you are recording almost exactly what you hear, which makes chosing a good spot even easier, just close your eyes and listen, that is what the mics are getting as well
  25. hey sparks... two little questions: - not to start a pod >< MD war... really not, I mean it... honestly, I've already stated my ideas on player >< recorder above... but the shuffle sounded better than a HiMD? which HiMD are we talking about? HD digital amp or not? as I have tested this myself with an NH900 and a shuffle from a friend and a very demanding track in A3+ (HiSP) and Lame VBR MP3 of averagely the same rate and I personally couldn't really name a significant winner, though I could hear some difference with a slight personal preference for the NH900 (though admittedly perhaps just cause I'm used to it's sound signature) but remarkingly, the owner of the shuffle who did the test with me was taken by the 'clarity' (his words) of the NH900 and almost didn't want to give it back (he's bought an RH10 now, chose OLED over SQ... the poor sod ) - "AFAIK the Cowns support for tags is limited" just sounds a bit daft as a criterium coming from someone coming from and probably going for a shuffle (you know, the screenless always shuffling strangely freat sounding USB-stick with phones) even lousy tag-support (and a screen to see hem on) should be interpreted as a step forwards from the shuffle, not? still, I'm starting to feel well, overwhelmed by the seemingly endless range of choice in crap, crappier and crappiest and then some very not crappy except for a couple of points MP3-(or better DA)Players out there. Not one seems to offer the perfect solution (too big/small, crappy support of tags/codecs, too little storage space, too much, too fragile, ... whatever) and the ones that come close seem to be extinct (or at least off the market and unsupported) I'm kinda torn between choices here: - I wished that SS wasn't such a pain in the behind or even better, that the mac -> RH1 software was out and the RH1 could do MP3-gapless as I would have no trouble using my RH1 as a playback device then (I listen to full albums, so the one line display of the remote doesn't bother me at all, I don't even use my RM-MC40ELK with it) - there's this 60gb ipod video 5g (or what's the latest gen?) sitting in a closet at work, brand spanking new (I personally cracked its seal and I'm the only one with a key to that closet), unused and there for my taking... still, feel kinda anxious to run about with a 60gb HDD known to be quite fragile that's not really mine... well, I've hijacked this thread enough already... on topic: no, ipod is not losing, it's playing a different league
