but it still has no option for downloading music from mac A440... so it might be confusing to mention the M-models here as 'mac-compatible' is understood by the general public (well anyone except Sony ) to work in both ways, which it doesn't but still, if you have some money to spare, consider an M-model, won't allow you to download music (from mac->MD) but still you would be able to upload (MD->mac) your own recordings made in PCM
-
- all HiMD-recordings (i.e. in HiSP, HiLP or PCM) can be digitally uploaded through USB to PC (to mac only PCM and only with an M-model) and if the USB uploading fails, you can also rerecord digitally by playing the trach through the computer (through USB) and capturing the signal with TotalRecorder - ALL other recordings (including LP/SP recordings made with HiMD-recorders) can't be uploaded to computer, they can be in realtime rerecorded on computer (PC and mac) digitally (with an MD-deck with optical out and comp with optical in) or analoguely (MD 'headphone/line out' to comp 'line/mic in')...this can be made easier with some third party software (like WinNetMD and with a similar feature in marcnet's brilliant HiMDRenderer) which uses the USB connection on NetMD-capable models to get track info and devide the rerecorded stuff on computer into correct tracks again, but this is still rerecording in realtime and not uploading. The TR-method won't work either as you cannot play pre-HiMD recordings (including those made in pre-HiMD atrac-types on a 1st gen HiMD) through USB

even if this had been possible, for me it wouldn't really change a thing... It's not the problem I can't carry enough gb's with me (I honestly don't think I will ever need more than three in one sitting and two extra discs are easily carried IMHO) but the problem is that I can't continuously record in PCM long enough which isn't helped by a flipable disc (= exactly the same as putting another one in for this situation)

I'm definitely not very wise when it comes to NetMD/MDLP (as I never owned such a device) but on my NH900 the battery will automatically start to charge when put in the cradle, BUT when connecting the adapter directly, you must press 'Stop' and only then it will start to charge... so perhaps this was also he case on older models (the owners of a working N710 can enlighten us perhaps)

not so much something I have bought... it actually was a present from my girlfriend: a casio 437 (better known as that 80's watch with the calculator ) [attachmentid=1300] [attachmentid=1301] you might not believe it, but I have been searching for this for a long time... I just love that totally useless 80's technology of miniaturisation... ah a calculator the size of a wristwatch...who could have thought about that (and especially now... we have bloody telephones with full agenda function and better game-capacities than concoles that existed at the time this watch was invented...) SIMPLY BRILLIANT (but I would have liked the metallic one even better ) PS: sorry about the quality of the pics... I had to make 'em with my phone

anyone tried an ABX-test and achieved really statistically significant results saying they can tell the difference between 256 and 352? I know I can't for most types of music... beware of placebo-effects

Need a "step by step instructions to upgrading volume on the NH600"
The Low Volta replied to two.tread's topic in Minidisc
^^^^ hey matt, is that true? (it is not an originally frech law adopted into euro-laws, which I always presumed and I was a bit too lazy to research it ) in that case it is probably only illegal if you live in France -

I don't think it is illegal to own a device from before the law was put into action... but the actual contemplated action of circumventing the restriction by the act of 'hacking' is something else than 'owning' if we're talking lawspeak IMHO... but then again, I'm no law-pro either *edit: the fear of doing something illegal should definitely not keep you from performing the hack IMHO... the fear of voiding your warranty or damaging your ears is much more realistic IMHO -

- depends on where you live I guess: as the volume limiter is required by European law, it is theoretically illegal to remove it I guess, but who's going to check your MD? - the Sony warranty may be considered void if they know/suspect you have been tampering with service mode... just like opening the protective case of consumer electronics often voids the warranty. Still, should there be a problem with something on your NH600, you could always unhack it before sending it in and if it was the process of hacking that busted the machine you can alway swallow all your pride and play confused and helpless ("I really dunno why, but my machine started acting all funny") -> of course entering service mode is not illegal, it just gives Sony a legal reason to reject a warranty claim -
yeah, but you can't do anything with your recordings if you just 'pluck' them as data from the disc... sorry, no drag-n-drop
-
of course you are absolutely right about VPC... but:- as it is a windows emulator, I didn't really count that as mac...sorry - as VPC runs ever so slow on light programs and SS is a resource hog, you'll have a ball uploading longer recordings... try like 100xrealtime (haven't really tried it, but it sure will be slow) - I dunno whether your version of VPC meets the system req's for SS, but if it does, feel free to try it no, but last time I checked the entire OS's were completely different... uploading takes a bit more than a standard USB port, the software (SS or the mac uploader for the M-Models) is an absolute requirement thanks to the anti-copy-paranoia at Sony corp... well, that's one theory, could just be that the technique is a tad more complicated and it really isn't able to do drag-n-drop

cheerup... those are the step-by-step instructions for 1st gen Hi-MDs... I dunno how to make it more step by step, but I'll try: this means you should first enter the sequence from the post I linked earlier, then follow with this sequence.. as xispe writes, the first column (on the left) read from top to bottom is the exact sequence of keys you should push, once in the service mode: "vol+" (or volume up) and five times "fwd" (or FF or next track). The second /right column just shows what you should be seeing on the display, so you can check whether you are still following the instructions correctly. Once you get to entry "113 xxxS25 (xxx values counting up...)" (of course it doesn't say 'values counting up', there will just be some dynamic values that are constantly counting up and the 25 could be something else as well) you... xispe is talking about the '25'-part in the line "113 xxxS25 (xxx values counting up...)". just press either vol up or vol down (choose one 'direction' and continue in that direction) till you see 'S25' which is the 'best setting' you can get the new setting has to be remembered by your player, so press 'pause' once you have 'S25' set this stop-sequence just reverts you to the beginning of service mode and removing all power sources takes you out of service mode altogether so all in all: set HOLD-switch to 'ON'While holding down the GROUP key press: FF / FF / REW / REW / FF / REW / FF / REW / PAUSE / PAUSE (gets you in service mode)VOL+ / FF / FF / FF / FF / FF (gets you to "113 xxxSXX (xxx values counting up...)" with XX being your current setting, probably A0)number of times either VOL+ or VOL- till you get "113 xxxS25(xxx values counting up...)"PAUSE (to save)STOP (number of times till you get back at the service menu start-screen)remove all power sources (to get out of service mode)for the correct values for your Hi-MD, check this guide hope that was clear enough, as I'm afraid it doesn't get any clearer... rest asured, once in service mode, things look simpler than expected. And as long as you do not press PAUSE, you wont save anything! If you make a mistake, just remove all power sources, wait a few seconds and try again... -
welcome to MDCF but... - there is no way to upload to mac, ecept for PCM recordings with the M-models (MZ-M10/MZ-M100) - even with HiMD and a PC, you will never be able to upload pre-HiMD recordings through USB check this thread for the only possibility to upload to mac (through an analogue connection MD/headphone out->mac/line in)

first enter the sequence found here to get into service mode, then perform these steps (exactly!) nothing else to it -
*edit: simplified my post so there can be no misunderstanding about my 'message' I think everyone should (be able to) decide for themselvesThis does not mean I like the movie as I haven't seen it yet and I probably won'tthanks

though there are simply some dogs that are really... nah just kidding, couldn't agree more!

this question will be better answered if you post it over at our non-MD sister forum but (as a HiMD user and with almost no ieda about other Sony DAP's) I would have to say I'm afraid you probably will have to reinitialize and will have to erase tracks...

Thanks dex... this makes me feel a bit more comfortable and also quite a bit fortunate (as my employer will be paying for the entire setup) for my upcoming switch (back) to mac... The extra cost was what drove me from mac->PC. I also have quite a lot of friends (including a former repairs assistant and later even manager at a PC-store) who always wanted a mac, but could't justify the higher price... Best thing about it is I'll be enjoying both worlds: - I'll keep my PC, but it will be more of a stationary central games/media player/editing machine etc in my home (now if only we could move in our new house but the pipeworks have to be repaired and some other work has to be done as well) continuously attached to a 250gb HDD so I'll have a total of 290gb (minus the system) to spend on pure fun stuff... which is nice - I'll have a small ultraportable powerbrick (the 12"G4) which will carry mostly workrelated stuff, but there will be some room for a lighter ogg-library as well... Together with the ergonomical setup for my desk at work, I'm really looking forward to having this one as a workhorse now if only I could get our partners to forget about Micro$ift Exchange Server as I'm really reluctant to install Micro$oftware on anything but most definitely on a mac ... or perhaps any of you know of a mac-native program (email/calendar stuff) that plays nice with M-exch.serv?
-
all that tekdroid said ... and just to add... if you use SS3.3 on all machines, your own recordings can be uploaded from the original disc multiple (well, actually unlimited) times but BEWARE: recordings already uploaded with any version before 3.3 will be erased if you try to upload them again
-
- only HiMD allows uploading (MD->PC) of recordings, NetMD does connect with USB, but it's one way (PC->MD) only - HiMD needs to be put into manual rec mode through the menus, but once you've done that, you can adjust levels on the fly - if you want to upload to mac, there's the M-Models (MZ-M10/MZ-M100) which allow (only) PCM (=wav) recordings to be transferred digitally to mac...no other options for mac except for realtime analogue uploading - pre-HiMD recordings (so anything not recorded in HiLP/HiSP or PCM) will NOT upload through USB... not even in a HiMD-machine - all the above is true, but if you have got an MD-deck with digital/optical out and a PC/mac with optical in, you could always make purely digital realtime recordings on computer of the recorded material...even with pre-HiMD recordings

you should submit a "dining" tack to the GE-community bobt... so we can all see where we can get some great coffee if we're in the neighbourhood
-
it's a first attempt ever at a moving avatar... and what could be better for that than a bunch of pics of my toilet at my previous place (student home) flushing... if you're looking very closely, you could see Mr.Hanky saying byebye
-
say Bobt... is the coffee shop at the same location as the house?
-
it's not as much the question "what I have been drinking today"...more "how much" no, really, had a 0.75l bottle of Duvel first, then a 0.75l bottle of Saison Regal (an amber beer like Palm but slightly less sweet) and now topping it off with some 33ml's of Jupiler (used to be my fav pils, but then they had to go and sweeten the taste to suit the general public)

hey dudes... where are all the "MD-around the world"-pics? I even showed my nipples so now I do expect something in return... well, not nipples really, just any pic with a MD in some country will do I guess... unless you have really exceptional nipples... like three or something... eh nevermind...
