just to nag about stuff (pun intended...sorry): it is HiMD not HD-MD
-
just a thought raintheory... perhaps your 'title'/'menu title' is a bit too long... I only used "MDCF" (you know the original button is only "connect" so "MiniDisc Community Forums" might be a tad long...or the spaces aren't accepted?? just guessing though) for the rest my registry settings are the same ...except I added a slash after the URL ("http://forums.minidisc.org/")
-
well, the method raintheory explained actually works in SS3.4 (for me at least as you can see here) I guess it's some strange issue on his PC that prevents this from working for him
-
and if the machine dies and Sony decides to dump HiMD (it will happen some time in the future) you're stuck with almost unusable discs full of data just sell them on ebay or something and buy up on DVDr's
-
Of course this doesn't really matter if you just perform the registry hack again and make MDCF the default page again in 3.4 like we did in previous versions as you can see here: [attachmentid=1394] I even typed this message from within SS I'll never ever buy lossily compressed music from the net!!
-
a very happy b-day to veezhun! hope you're still out there enjoying HiMD!!
-
Hi and welcome to MDCF, yes, unfortunately we all know the problem...even Sony does (that's why they never mentioned mac in there system requirements but only windows). And a lot of ppl were frustrated by this because they had only noticed after their purchase... Sony also noticed this ... that's why they came up with two mac-compatible models (MZ-M10 & MZ-M100) for which the mac uploader was meant... but of course this means another purchase (and you can't even blame them in the end as they did never pretend the previous models were mac compatible) I'm very sorry, but for you the only solutions are: - transfering in realtime (analogue) - buying an M (mac-compatible) model - get Virtual PC and a lot of spare time as it will work VERY slowly

Need a "step by step instructions to upgrading volume on the NH600"
The Low Volta replied to two.tread's topic in Minidisc
the numbers always go up till 30... but the volume doesn't. After 25 you won't hear anything getting louder on the European machines. With the hack there is some more loudness...but: - some type of hardware limiter has also been discorvered in 1st gen HiMDs, so while the hack might improve something, it won't make a world model from a European - you really should ask yourself if the hack is really worth it: * loud sounds, especially through headphones, can damage your hearing...and this really sucks! * when using the stock-buds the sound was sometimes not loud enough...especially on trains etc, but this wasn't really the limiter's fault! The stock-buds just suck and for noisy situations: get in-ear/canalphones My advice: - if you are like me and that 'I must have this hack'-feeling takes over your feelings of insecurity... go ahead and follow the directions strictly... it won't damage anything if peformed correctly - spend $25 (or more if you want to) on some decent in-ear/canalphones like the Panasonic RP-JE50 and a whole new experience will open up for you: much better sound AND I never (not even on a busy train) have to raise the volume above 16/30!! -
OS X AND VIRTUAL PC 7 ON G5 IMAC AND MZ-RH10 WORKS FINE
The Low Volta replied to papatakis's topic in Software
I hear you gaston ( pun intended) I'm getting a mac shortly (12" G4 p-book) myself but I am keeping my PC, as I have removed almost all "crashable" microsoft stuff and only install the most necessary apps... and to import my recordings I'd take PC over V-PC anyday -
OS X AND VIRTUAL PC 7 ON G5 IMAC AND MZ-RH10 WORKS FINE
The Low Volta replied to papatakis's topic in Software
good to hear you're enjoying the HiMD-ride...even with a mac but please do not use CAPS to type complete messages... it is really aanoying to read and is also understood by a lot of ppl as 'shouting' when used on boards/forums. Just use them only when really needed... but all in all, welcome to MDCF... but I'm afraid VPC will always be pretty slow compared to real windows -
if you browse the live-rec section of these forums, a lot of useful threads will pop up (a search for posts by A440 and greenmachine will also bring up lots of useful info) and if you have a technically capable person in you vicinity (or perhaps you yourself) I would strongly suggest greenmachine's DIY-guide for building mics and a battery box. It is very simple to follow and the mics are brilliant! I've been using them for over half a year now and they have delivered every time!... why give your money to some 'corporation' if you can build them yourself? And if you (like me ) can't solder two coins together, greenmachine also sells them pre-made (look at his site, mentioned in his signature) otherwise SoundPro is pretty good as their cheapish SP-BMC2 mics have produced decent recordings as well... enjoy the HiMD ride and be sure to check all pinned threads as they will also teach you about the safest way for uploading etc... and install SonicStage3.3 (available from downloads section) and not the lower SS version that you'll get on CD with the recorder!

why i hate the BC-7DC2 battery charger!
The Low Volta replied to WaywardTraveller's topic in Minidisc
after reading about higher mAh gumstick batteries swelling till they almost cannot be removed from the NH900 I'm a bit hesitating about charging the 1450mAh GP-stick I'm using n the machine itself... I also do not know whether the NH900 actually is good for charging a 1450mAh fully? I was hoping an external charger would be good/smart enough to be set on and forgotten in that it knows when to switch off after fully charging... I mean, I never have charged my 1450mAh stick in my NH900 without supervision... -
why i hate the BC-7DC2 battery charger!
The Low Volta replied to WaywardTraveller's topic in Minidisc
hey wayward... if you'd refrase/broaden that question to "where oh where can I buy a decent gumstick charger anywhere ... online is ok unless the the shipping rates are ridiculous" I'll back you up and would immediately subscribe to that thread! I've been searching here (in Belgium) and didn't find a thing!! -
uk model to upload field recordings via usb to mac
The Low Volta replied to xgipper's topic in Minidisc
don't know whether it is for sale in the UK or you need to import, but the only two models available that fit your requirements are the SONY HiMD's MZ-M10 and MZ-M100 (both have mic in and come with the required software and often also with a mic) all others won't do what you ask (MD->USB->mac) and even with the M-models this is only possible for PCM (CD-quality) recordings made with these models -
check these forums for a thread by greenmachine on equalizing... he discovered that lowering all bands 1 or 2 notches actually creates a richer bass than when raising the lowest band
-
check these forums for more info on atrac advanced lossless... as it should actually be titled atrac advanced useless! you need to choose a bitrate for the lossless file... this already indicates "excrement ready for hitting a fanlike thingy" if you want to transfer in the bitrate you chose, no probs, it will simply do this (just like a normal ransfer without lossless in between) but if you choose any other bitrate it won't convert from a lossless file to that bitrate, but instead it uses a lossy file in the bitrate you first indicated for the lossless file and converts that to another bitrate which means SQ suffers besides there are no DAP that can use A-lossless, so it's really only good for listening within SS

$27.6 Million CDN Distributed to Canadian Musicians Due to Tax
The Low Volta replied to Christopher's topic in News
actually rewritability could be one cause for a higher tax on MD... but then there would need to be a diference between CD and CDR as well -
$27.6 Million CDN Distributed to Canadian Musicians Due to Tax
The Low Volta replied to Christopher's topic in News
just wondering...how on earth do they come up with those levies? I mean why would a standard 80 min MD need +3x more tax than a CD?? -
I have a few CDR's from 1996 that are corrupted (the thin silver/gold layer starts to flake and there goes the content) still, I continu to use CDR/DVDR and rather perform a fresh backup (from the old CDR/DVDR's to new ones) every five-ten years than depend on a format that doesn't really have a very certain future I mean, ok perhaps the discs are very sturdy, but the machines won't last 50 years and how long will Sony still support HiMD (I don't think it's over yet, but it will end someday). Readable discs without a device to read them sure seems useless and quite frustrating to me

Entering Service Mode On A Hi-MD Player
The Low Volta replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
@ scott, just follow the "uncapped thanks to MDCF" link in my signature ... it takes you to a complete explanation on how to perform the hack -
NH600's do not have a mic in NH600D's don't even have a line in for recording better go for a NH700/800, NH900 or RH910, RH10
-
just convert your own recordings to wav (either with the converter built in SS or with Marcnet's HiMDRenderer) and then they are free for you to edit, copy, burn to CD,... whatever you want PS: do upgrade to SS3.3, it offers the no-DRM checkbox for importing CD's and for reconverting OMA files to another OMA type and offers also unlimited uploads of your own recordings from HiMD
-
funny I've got those in my collection as well... but now I use my panasonics most of the time
-
indeed 'buyfromjapan' is safe to buy from, I bought a RM-MC40ELK remote from him and it was a very smooth transaction and the item was in perfect condition and sealed in original packaging
-
Am I correct assuming you are talking about your own recordings that you have already uploaded to PC before, then erased and you now want them on PC again? if so... sorry, only through realtime 'rerecording' either digitally by playing through SS and recording with TotalRecorder or analoguely by connecting headphone out on MD to line in on PC and recording with Audacity (or something alike) later versions of SS (3.2 and 3.3) do allow multiple uploads of your own recordings, but not of tracks previously uploaded with a lower version. So, to answer your last question: no keeping them on MD only isn't a safe way of keeping backups. Always convert precious recordings to wav or a lossless compression (flac, wma-lossless, wavpack...) and keep it somewhere safe (DVD-R, CDR,...)
