  1. please tell us your budget in US dollars.. the rh910 on amazon is really a good purchase.. has mic in, opt in, line in, digital amp etc etc.. its a one time purchase so dont lose out on that mic in option.. you never know when you might neeed to plug in a mic and start recording
  2. what purpose is this humoungous thread serving now? until chris gets some official and conrete news, the speculation will never end... the pages will keep increasing.. the reading will become tedious and will add no value beyond a point.. btw, i love MD for recording and am pretty sure that MD will move to a niche area called pro recording.. playback will be the forte of HDD and Flash devices.. my 2 paisa on this

    What's next?

i am sticking to a HDD device for playback.. using the rh10 as a recorder only.. occasionaly use the n10 for playback.. assuming the rh10 will record nicely for another 2-3 years, i dont think i have anything to fear.. if ss 3.2 is the last software to support MD, so be it. honestly, its strange to even discuss when there is no other similar device in the market... my assumption is that Hi MD will stay.. as a pro recording tool.. again thats my opinion.. no matter whats been said for so long, i think hi md is here to stay as a recording medium, the purpose for which it was originnally developed
  4. go for a rh910... best MD for the money today.. as cheap as 170 USD on amazon has everything you ever want out of a md
  5. listening to a live recording i made of pandit hariprasad chaurasia on the flute... sooooperb
  6. for audio use MD. very handy and editable on the unit itself.. DV is mainly used for video.. i dont know anyone who has used a DV cam with a plug in power mic for exclusive audio recordings.. from wikipedia "DV allows either 2 digital audio channels (usually stereo) at 16 bit resolution and 48 kHz sampling rate, or 4 digital audio channels at 12 bit resolution and 32 kHz sampling rate. For professional or broadcast applications, 48 kHz is used almost exclusively. In addition, the DV spec includes the ability to record audio at 44.1 kHz (the same sampling rate used for CD audio), although in practice this option is rarely used." for video, i have no clue
  7. must be the discs.. i have had no issues with the rh10 with old md discs formatted in Hi mD mode...
  8. let this not become another ipod vs md debate.. please.. i am tired of that.. sonicstage has imporved by leaps and bounds for sure.. its a decent software and requires a little learning especially after using itunes.. also, why did you buy the nh900?? and what do you really mean by "" full capacity "" ? please explain so that we can better understand this term.. finally, and please dear god finally, AAC is NOT, i repeat NOT an apple proprietary format.. its just mpeg-4 audio. btw, Connect which is sony sells songs in atrac3(132K).... so its not that different.. cheers..
  9. september 26th... a day that shall be remembered in infamy chris, i feel happy and sad. happy that i bought the rh10.. sad because MD is dying... somewhere, i think sony will consider using the MD as a pro recorder of choice.. hope that happens
  10. just wanted confirmation from you guys to make the wallet feel better.. thats all..
  11. I finally decided to get a iaudio X5L 30 Gb player. A friend is getting it for me from singapore. I have read some amazing reviews about the device. The main thing I love is the fact that it does not have id3 tagging. I use the folder method in my computer too.. The only 2 players i considered were this and the sony Hd5.. The sony mainly for its size and sound quality. but the lack of Eq for mp3's kinda put me off.. Any comments?? cheers
  12. good to see mdcf back.... chris, take a nice break when its all done... cheers
  13. you can leave the back light on continuously on the rh10.. the levels are always displayed this way.. as far as the RM-MC40ELK remote is concerened, i dont know..
  14. isnt the rh10 cheaper than the nh900?? just curious why you dont want to consider this model. plus, you would be getting it brand new and factory sealed...
  15. lol chris but yes, there is disturbance when the cell goes off near the Hi MD while recording..
  16. i pray all of you are safe... i still havent forgotten the rain here.. god bless
  17. can i request the mods to close this thread. i have read enough about this Ipod vs HI MD debate.. feel free to delete my comment too...
  18. i dont want a camera or touch screen lcd... i want 1. digital out 2. heavy duty battery for long recording 3. 5 gb discs 4. a recorder that does manual levels and remembers them 5. OLED with colours 6. magnesium body 7. abilty to record in the new bit rates of atrac3plus 8. ability to edit tracks even from sonicstage.. the editability is very important.. edit: adding picture as required by law [attachmentid=794] cheers
  19. the roads here.. followed by traffic.... pisses me off every single time... i can even say there are more holes on the road than the road itself... and i claim to live in urban india!! ballz..
  20. just wanted to ask others here.. i have a lot of classical music to listen and they are generally a minimum of 30 minutes per track... i have used both the rh10, n10 and the ipod mini... by far, the best to forward and rewind is the ipod mini.. the difference is huge in long tracks... i always forward and rewind inside a track in both the rh10 and n10 with pause on... even then the ipod wins... any other players do it so well??
  21. rh10 for sure... i was in the same dilemma and thanks to ishi and others, i got the rh10.. advantages -battery pack.. this is a huge advantage IMHO when you are on the move for either recording or playback -standard gumstick battery.. these are very cheap now -OLED... you have to see it to believe it.... beaaaaautiffffffffullll -charging without cradle... unlike the Nh1, you dont need to lug around a cradle to charge the device.... cheers
  22. while connected to the PC via USB, you can remove the battery.. the unit gets the power from the USB port... this will help you to discharge the battery fully cheers
  23. the last number is 12 not 2 so the answer is wrong. tiesto, am still working on it.. brain not functioning
  24. at that bit rate, i must say its very hard to differentiate... nonetheless, just tweak the EQ and all shall be fine.. i have the rh10 and used to own a ipod mini... also try atrac sometime
  25. on the other hand, what i have read at ipodlounge is that the shuffle sounds better than the other ipods.. it apparently has more bass though you cannot equalize.... @daiken.. what bit rates are you using on your ipod and MD?? while i agree about the volume, i am not too sure about the sound playback quality
