First of all.. welcome to MDCF Secondly, what are your needs? What is the primary reason you want to purchase the Hi MD? Is it recording mainly, occasionally or playback mostly? I own the Rh10 and can give you some suggestions if i know what your requirements are

You dont need to use the headphone out of a HI MD to bypass the upload process.. Open sonicstage, point to the Hi MD with the recorded tracks, hit play and it will play from your speakers.. Use total recoder or your sound mixer to record in real time digitally.. Total recorder is very good and the sound mixer option is great too.. Headphone out to line in of a computer is analog and will cause some loss.. This method works only with HI MD cheers

This post is my experience in live recording: I went for a concert today by Dr L Subramaniam. This was a fusion concert comprising of the following instruments: Violin 2 Keyboards Drums Bass Guitar Thavil ( South Indian Percussion) Mridangam ( South Indian Percussion) Moorsing Kanjira and Ghatam ( South Indian Percussion) There were numerous speakers in front and some on the rear coz the auditorium was large. I was sitting in the P row where A is the closest to the stage.. Dead center.. I was using ECM-DS70P for 2 tracks and then switched to my old Aiwa stereo T mic.. Recording settings: Blank 1 Gb Hi MD Disc AGC set to Standard Mic Sens - Low The reason i did not choose manual was i wanted to listen with peace and not bother too much about looking at levels.. I did see them once in a while.. The sound from the PA was not too loud coz i was not next to the speakers.. Results: Disappointing only becasue of the mic.. The sony ECM-DS70P looks good but there is no bass. i checked the frequency response on the website and knew immediately what the problem was.. On the aiwa mic(which costs virtually nothing), the sound is awesome.. Someone please explain this paradox.. Other observations:(Another concert yesterday by Pandit Jasraj(Hindustani Vocal) ) I tried 4 automatic settings: 1. Mic sens Low + Standard AGC 2 Mic sens Low + ForLoudMusic AGC 3. Mic sens High + Standard AGC 4. Mic Sens high + For Loud Music AGC Then since i was not paying too much attention the concert, i tried the manual levels too.. Issues: I am not able to understand the results.. Standard AGC with mic sens low sounds the best.. I tried manual but unless i constantly changed levels, it sounded wierd... Please help me on that... Anyways, i am done with my points.. I will keep updating this until sunday.. 3 more concerts to record.. One is my own so that will be through the line in.. Tried to post some samples but thanks to my upload speeds, couldnt succeed Comments and suggestions from fellow recorders is highly solicited cheers

i want the one without FM radio.. the 407.. it looks awesome... btw, my trip to japan never did materialize...

But wouldnt using a Mac OS nullify the use of Sonicstage? Btw Ishi, do you own one of these cool devices?? I am so in love with OLED after the Rh10... Man that is some device

I am not so sure about that. Other users of the E507 have been able to use it as a flash drive. It should mount automatically as a removable drive under windows 2000 and XP. What OS are you using??

how much do you people pay for all this speed? my rate comes to Rupees 550 a month which comes to around 12 USD a month... the thing is the minute i want something like a 30GB cap with a minimum 1 MB line, the price goes somewhere around 2,000 USD!!!! it is available only as a leased line from the major telecom vendors.. ISP's here dont offer more than 256K for normal consumers..

i am one of the lucky few in india to actually call my connection Broadband.. it is a 256K download with a supremely low upload speed.. above all, i have a 1 GB download cap!! 1gb!! frickkin nonsense... i cant download much and the speeds are horrible during the day... i was reading about internet connections in countries like japan and sweden... i want those speeds!! what connections are you guys using?? is there a download cap?? cheers

thanks i am reading a review of the 6800 as well as the 6600GT right now.. coming from my geforce2 MX, both these cards seem, well, unbelievable... kurisu, assuming i dont convert the windows 64 bit, is there a comparable ATI card for a similar price?? i have never used ATI so dont know anything about it.. am tempted to consider the ALL IN WONDER!!!! man, the more i search, the more information i get and the more greedy i become.. greed is good

i havent played around much with stuff like AA.. my monitor resolution is 1024 X 768.. the games i play i just run on default mode.. havent done any changes to the video setup.. fifa runs at 1024 768 so does golf.. cricket is at 800 600.. looked up for AA and saw some screen shots with AA and without at anandtech.. it does make a difference to the image quality... as far as windows XP 64 bit goes, i havent seen it in india at my dealer yet.. i think there is a scheme where i can trade my 32 bit windows for a 64 bit windows.. but i lose the right to use 32 bit for ever( is that really true?) what speed advantages can i get?? kurisu, i remember reading what you had written about NET MD not working under windows 64 bit.. i happen to have an MZ n10.. so i am a bit apprehensive.. you have no issues whatsoever with 64 bit windows??

thanks for your replies .. the issue is i am using agp and not pci-e.. kurisu, i have a limited budget no money for a new processor.. just upgraded couple of months ago.. what i can do is get additonal 512MB ram.. i think i can manage that.. should i go for the 6600GT?? the game i play most is FIFA 2005 and sometimes cricket 2005.. am not a big fan of FPS..i tried tiger woods golf too.. i am going to get NBA live but i doubt with this card(my current) i will get any decent frame rates..

i have a geforce2 mx with 32 mb of vram and am looking for an upgrade.. which is better as far as power issues go? its amazing what a little common sense can do to an organization even as big and powerful as sony. i have always wanted to ask nobyuki idei one thing.. the DRM in HI MD makes no sense. for eg. if i wanted to pirate illegal mp3 from one computer to another, simply copy them using windows explorer and trasnfer to another machine (i know you cannot playback such files) so why not allow such files to play on the HI MD?? maybe mr stringer can see the utter uselessness of such stoopid DRM schemes and go after apple in a big way..

ipods can play wav files too.. if i wanted the best, i would choose apple lossless over wav.. more songs for same quality..

i think the hi md VS ipod debate is quite useless.. both have their advantages. these have been discussed more than once in these forums. searching might be beneficial to one and all here.. to say the ipod doesnt sound as good as the Hi MD is a matter of prefernce and how sensitive or rather insensitive your ears.. there are some who swear by the clean no frills ipod sound and some who cant have enough of their HD AMP Hi MD.. to each his own. please use the music you often listen to on the ipod as well as HI MD before making a decision regarding sound quality.. and ROMBUSTERS is right.. PCM=Apple Lossless(Lossless Compression)

go for the rh910 in this case.. better battery life than the first gen Hi MD and also mp3 playback(not upto the mark though according to many) since you need to mainly record and upload on the pc, the rh910 is ideal coz its easily available, good battery life with the AA addon, and all the inputs you need ie mic, line in and optical in.. further, since you already have a HI MD downloader, i dont think legacy recording ie MDLP would greatly interest you..
