  1. It seems to me that we are already seeing that happen. I think all that seems to be left is new old stock.
  2. Hey, that's a great tip Kona702!
  3. I just realized that I mis-spoke earlier Sony_Fan, the unit I have is actually an E909. Sorry about that! My description to you was for the E909 unit. I it got for a song, it was part of a three unit deal which included an NH900 and an R700, so placing a value on it is difficult. I think I paid around 150 for all three units three years ago. PhilippeC makes a good point, if you plan to use it to listen to any LP2 or LP4 recordings, you should look for a Type-S player, most are quite rare in the states.
  4. I have one and it is a cool little unit, and I mean little. It is very small and light weight. There is no display o the unit, so you need a remote with display for any configuration changes. I think it is Type-R DSP. Uses the standard gum stick nickel metal hydride rechargable battery. It's a cool little machine.
  5. I suggest there is no real possibility of damage, the low voltage is not enough to trigger the charging circuit, the higher current of the adapter you have for PSP is just there and unused. You need A 6v adapter 800mA or greater current, voltage should be at 6 ...
  6. Understood. I have the D400 and I know it has TOSLink optical in and out.
  7. Ok, this is not an MD unit, but it is an NW-HD1 unit. The movie is "Zathura: A Space Adventure" at about 10 - 12 minutes into the movie, the older sister is using the unit to jam with some Bose headphones. The movie is from 2005, probably a couple of years after the unit was released. I have one so I was excited to recognize it in the movie.
  8. 415k, I am sure the write up would be appreciated by the next person in your position. If you have the time, please share!
  9. Kona702 that is a sweet unit, I looked at them a couple of years ago and decided against one because of the price. All of the a 13+ year old units mentioned by PhilippeC are rarely available and will not be better specifically if you are looking for a combo CD/MD deck, the last time I saw a 555ES it was listed on eBay US (not ebay.fr phillipe) for $1200+. The 50ES is old with ATRAC 4.5, the 555ES is at least Type-R as is the 333ES which also includes MDLP capability without Type-S. You can't do high speed rips as you can with a CD/MD combo deck. I decided to save some money and held out for an Sony MXD-D400 and scored it for around 200 bucks, it was like new in the box, this unit has the Type-S DSP which gives a better sound on LP2 and LP4 playback decoding. Another similar unit is the Sony MXD-D40 which is also a combo deck but without the Type-S DSP. If you plan to use the deck for creating disks and playing back on some other unit which has Type-S (such as every HiMD portable made) the D40 is a perfect unit. Both of these are regularly up for auction on ebay.com. You can grab a D40 for $125.
  10. eastbayrb, that's a great demo. I need to test it out again. I would love to be able to get mine ti work like that too. I was wondering if the versions of A1 being different may be the cause as well. I think, like in your setup, one unit is A1 and the other is A1 II (version 2). I'll try it again and see if I have any success.
  11. This may be something you can do using one of the Nero tool sets. I don't know if the CD data can be captured via GraceNote, but at a minimum, I would think you could manually edit the contents of the image file to add the text. I could be wrong. You should check out the latest Nero tools package and see if there is any mention of being able to perform editing of an image file. Isn't it also true that creating single file images of Red Book Audio disks is difficult to do? I could be wrong there as well. Stephen's suggestions regarding using SonicStage to perform the task are certainly worth trying as the tool is freely available. Ripping the entire disk to ATRAC lossless should allow SS to grab the track info via GraceNote and associate it with the tracks which you should be able to turn around and immediately burn to a CDR with no loss of sound quality, CD text included. I have never been able to get A1 to transfer text for me. This is from my DVP-ES9000 to my MDS-JA20ES or to my MDS-JB940. It may be the DVP unit which is the problem. If your objective is to get a nice optical SP recording, I certainly understand, the sound is hard to beat! I mainly use my MXD-M400 now which is a combo CD/MD which makes pretty good SP recordings and also transfers CD text data if it exists. Good luck, let us know how things work out.
  12. I have been wanting to post this image of the MZ-HD1 in its docking station since the New Year! This is a sweet little unit which has to be approaching 10 years old, I bought it on eBay 4 years ago for $50 USD and replaced the LiON battery, it still works great to this day. I like the firmware in the HD5 units I have a little better, but this is still a great unit which can store 20GB of ATRAC3/ATRAC3plus music!
  13. You would think in my mind it was rocket science to get an image attached to a post! I did not see the "Attach" functionality at the bottom of the editor page. Glad to figure it out, I have been wanting to post some pictures.
  14. Just testing image attachment in posts... Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Raceway August 2012. I took my seven year old son to his first Indy Car race last summer, we had a blast!
  15. Yeah, that posting is completely bogus, I saw that a while back when it was first posted and just rolled my eyes. What a scammer. As Stephen mentions, the picture looks like some pre-production mockup of an RH10 with the display of the RH910 as well as the outer white casing of an RH910 versus the "chrome" plated outer casing of the RH10. Then to top it off, the scammer goes on to describe an RH1 in the text in complete detail as if what is being sold is in fact an RH1. I did not look closely before except to notice the picture was clearly not an RH10. Someone should report this guy. Edit: And the guy has zero feedback!

    Hard Drive swap?

Swapping the drives is almost certainly possible. All laptops built in the past 15 years have used 2.5" drives some 9mm thick, some 12mm, there were even fatter drives long ago. I don't know about Sony, but most other manufacturers made the laptops so that the drive could be accessed pretty easily by removing a couple of screws and pulling out a caddy which holds the drive. The model numbers you list look pretty similar and I suspect the two models have a number of interchangeable parts, the drive caddy is likely to be the same, if not, you would need to move the drive from the original caddy into the caddy of the second machine. The BIOS may complain on the first power up unless the two drives are the identical model, most recent machines have BIOS code which will recognize the drive and read from it the appropriate values to make the settings in the firmware NVRAM so that future start-ups will not cause errors, you may need to accept some new settings for a modified drive type on the first start-up. Another issue you may encounter if you are able to perform the swap is that the Windows drivers for the hardware in the machines could be different. When you first boot from the replacement drive you may be prompted for driver disks or asked to search the internet for appropriate drivers. If you want to reinstall the OS clean, this is a very common operation which I have performed many times. Your best bet is to use Google to search for "reinstall windows XP" or similar search terms. You'll undoubtedly get a ton of hits and be able to find a good guide to walk you through the process. I suggest printing out any instructions you choose first unless you have yet a third computer to access the Internet with while you perform the install. You should also locate the original driver disk for the specific machine or go to the Sony support site and locate the section for your machine and download all of the driver you will need to install, copy them to a thumb drive for use after the build so you can get your hardware working. There are a lot of things to consider to undertake these tasks, but with some preparation and study before you begin, you can do it! You may find more help by checking out http://www.notebookforums.com and looking for the Sony section, there is a very active group of geeks over there who can help you with just about anything. Most of the geeks around here are into Sony MiniDisc audio equipment, including myself! Good luck!
  17. That's great news! Congrats. I am sure you will be able to sell the blanks as well. I know you want to off-load them all at once, but you may have better luck with groups of three or four. Not everyone has a large chunk of cash to spend at once on 17 discs.
  18. Check it out Soundbox: current eBay Listing for XA-Pro disks. Price is steep, but I think this is what you were looking for.
  19. Is this the disc with the metal casing? I saw one of that variety on eBay pretty recently, the price was really high for a single 80 minute disc but it sure seemed cool.
  20. Wow, that bare-bones unit with no accessories ended up selling for $285! Anyone looking for a nice RH10 needs to have another look at goodsound12's unit. I wish I had the cash for it now. :-(
  21. Wow Jim, thanks for the detailed troubleshooting directions! I'll put it on the bench as soon as possible and let you know what I discover.
  22. I made a few recordings from my SACD player (via analog out obviously) to SP 292k using my JA20ES and again using HiSP 256k with my MZ-NH1. They both sounded amazing and I don't recall which I liked more. The SACD sure has an amazing dynamic range and the MD is such a flexible recording medium that it can capture that and produce some pretty amazing results. With the HiSP on a 1GB disk you can store quite a bit of music with a very high quality.
  23. I love it that we have such a great community here to discuss and share all things MiniDisc! I also love that we have a nearly constant stream of new members who can contribute and get in on the fun! kona702 and 777.300 are prime examples, the work you have done to prove that the Vista 64 bit driver can be used on W8 is fantastic and will no doubt show up in many, many Google searches made by frustrated MD users trying to upgrade their operating systems. And having veteran experts like Stephen to facilitate things makes it all come together rather nicely.
  24. Hey Stephen, My JB940 started doing this the last time I powered it up. Admittedly, since I got my MD-MX400 I have not used the 940 but eventually I'd like to do a search for the topic and solicit your assistance (as well as Jim H) to resolve that if possible.
