sonicstage back up does not ask for other discs
Azureal replied to ljconstrictors's topic in Software
Windows Explorer should work, although whenever it has a problem it tends to just bail. I might suggest using a command prompt and the DOS command xcopy to perform the copy. You can run it in a verify mode where is validates that every file copied to the destination matches the file at the source. It tends to be less finicky with copies as well. There is an even better command line copy app called robocopy, it was part of the Microsoft NT Resource Kit, you should be able to find it on the internet. You'll have to do some reading on the usage of either app. xcopy /? xcopy DVD:backup*.* C:temp. /E/V/F/G/H/Y/J- 7 replies

I agree with Sony_Fan, you may even be able to get $300 for the NH1 as well. The EH70 and EH50 in rough condition may fetch 40 - 80 each as long as they work. The N1 is sadly almost worthless.

It's too bad that chart only covers units through 1997, I would be interested in knowing about later units as well, although I guess the browser provides a petty good record of that.

That's interesting history Russell, thank you for sharing.

sonicstage back up does not ask for other discs
Azureal replied to ljconstrictors's topic in Software
I still suggest that if you can get all of the files from every backup DVD you have for one specific backup into the same directory on one hard drive you should be able to do a restore from that location. I suppose it is possible that Sony specifically made coping all files from a backup DVD onto a hard-drive impossible, it would not surprise me. I also imagine that some of the data contained on the initial disk includes a record of all backed up data on all disks, this is why you are seeing details for some items that are not being restored from later disks in your backup. After the entire backup is restored, I suspect that the entire data set is authorized after the final disk is restored. Is there a chance you created the back up in a different version of SonicStage than the one you are using to restore with?- 7 replies

Is it possible to manually copy the contents of all disks from a given backup set into a single directory on your hard drive and then initiate the backup from that location? I have only ever made backups to a location on a single large drive. It is worth a try.- 7 replies

Here are 5 new on eBay now, pretty good price too. These are 80 minute as well, I wasn't aware they made them in that capacity.

The only way to create real SP recordings is on a deck or portable set to record at 292Kbps SP. SonicStage does not have the CODEC required to create SP compressed files, it only exists in hardware through a dedicated ASIC chip or in software loaded into a DSP in later years. I recall hearing it was related to the licensing Sony had with Dolby Labs who they collaborated with on the development of the original SP CODEC and compression technology. When you compress and transfer from SonicStage to SP, what you really get is often referred to as fake-SP and is actually some padded form of 132Kbps LP2. If you want real SP, you have to record in real time or get a deck that transfers from MD to CD at faster than real time.

I don't personally see much of a difference, especially at $5.99 per disk. That doesn't seem right ...

Thanks guys, I looked for a source for the GP batteries have not found any yet. Jimma, thanks for the link to the Powerstream batteries, I am going to order two and give them a try! I'll let you guys know when I get them. Having a source for these style of batteries is important!

I think I'll check out both of those varieties, I have a few which are losing their "umph". Stephen, I recall you mentioning another brand as well.
-
I have a few of these as well, I am pretty certain they are knock-off batteries. They don't always charge properly and they don't last half as long as an original. Some of them don't even fit properly. Several folks around here have had good luck using a different brand entirely, I don't recall the manufacturer name but they are clearly aftermarket. The biggest difference is they don't try to trick one into thinking they are something they they are not (originals). This is one of my biggest fears, I will run out of usable gumstick batteries and not be able to replace them for some of my favorite units and they will become non portable as a result, thank goodness for the AA sidecar.

That is a player I have never owned but often admired. They seem to be quite rare.

Yep, agreed, my NH600 has the yellow colored power input as well.

I am drooling again!

I see what you are saying, there are two versions of the NH600D and at least one known version of the NH600. Are you sure yours is not an NH600 Stephen? (I know the answer, but had to ask ) (sfbp here; hehe yes I really do have a 600, and it has a power connector - see next post. But I was talking about my 600D).
-
Not certain, but I think there are two versions but the are NH600D and NH600, the NH600 is the one I have and it has optical and analog recording inputs (no microphone input) and also has the remote slot connector for a number of remotes to control the unit. I think the NH600D was the one commonly available in the North America while the NH600 was available elsewhere, I picked mine up new on eBay a few years ago for next to nothing. People are asking ridiculous prices for them now ... It's a great little unit in either form!

While we are on the topic of the RH910, check out the crazy price this one went for on eBay.com this morning: Sony Hi-MD MZ-RH910 minidisc recorder I sold a brand new unit except it was the US version in an unopened blister package about 18 months ago and it went for a measly $110 bucks US! Looks like I should have held on to it for a while ...

How Cool! Has Anyone Ever Seen This!? MZ-R4ST
Azureal replied to Kona702's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
I have always thought those units were cool too kona702. I suspect it was released in Japan only as the labels on the buttons all have non english markings, A unit like this would have been great for tiling in the pre-NetMD days! Looking in the browser it only has ATRAC 3.5, an earlier version. I have a couple of R50 units with ATRAC 4.5 and they sound great on playback of newer Type-R SP recordings. I suspect this unit you have found on eBay would likely sound good as well. -
Love it PhilippeC!

I always remove them. They only exist so Sony can say their products are not emitting any high frequency emissions, keeps the FCC in the US happy. Removal should have no adverse affect on the performance of the device. It is however that removal may cause interference with other devices, but not likely.

The NH600D is HiMD which has a DSP that includes Type-S and Type-R however, this particular unit has no capability to record, there are no inputs. This is a downloader only, the only way to record to a disc is to transfer from SonicStage.

That's awesome! I am glad it worked out for you!
