Sadly it looks like no others are planned. It would be really nice to see a player-only unit released, a downloader, and a more player oriented model with line in and mic in.

I really hope the blanks aren't gone, they were in my local walmart last month. I guess I have to take a trip and see.

Nice find! Looks way better than my silver downloader.

Besides upload of legacy tracks and recording in legacy formats, nothing at all. In my opinion, the rh1 is a downgrade from the rh10. The lack of a large display (that can display artist/track titles), jog dial to scroll through songs, and the lack of the AA addon are severe losses. The only way that I see someone can use the rh1 happily is with the 40elk remote, $70 USD, in addition to the $300+ for the unit. Stick with the rh10, it is a better all around choice. The rh1 is directed at recording and legacy enthusiasts. The rh10 is more for someone who wants a quality player, with all the necessary needs of a player.

There is a bug in the mp3 playback on the rh10. But the average ear can't here it and if your concerned, then just have all music playback in atrac3plus. I convert all my mp3 files to Atrac3plus at 64kbps, holds 500 songs a disc and sounds great, no different than the original file. Conversion is a very simple process.

You got that right! Everyone hear really disagrees with me as I think the rh1 is not special at all for the exact reasons you stated: small screen, no jog dial, can't display artists, no AA addon, etc. I'm glad atleast someone agrees with me. I'd recommend you put the rh1 on ebay, you will definitely make OVER $300 for it, some people treat it as a godsend (when it really isn't that great at all for someone not needing to upload legacy tracks). Then you can pick up an RH10 on ebay for probably under $200 these days, you will make a nice profit. Good luck.

To each their own. We all have different opinions, if we all thought the same, life would be very boring.
-
The RH1 only supplies a 1 line remote, doesn't make you pay 70 bucks for one to make it a quality player. If I was ever to buy a nh3d, I would use it only when using the remote. For all other situations, rh10 or 600d. Not that it matters though, I'm broke .

Nice, pics? You should post a pictorial of it, as it would be the first of the white 600.
-
There are exceptions of course. This model is like a player only unit, great build and super thin + the ability to download music on it. Very nice, and it is shipped with a 3 line remote w/ jog dial, and I'm sure someone that is looking for this unit will be a remote user.
-
Great pictorial! Super thin and compact like player-only units but with a usb port, definitely great. Good thing it is shipped with the 40elk too.

I've always been curious about this, finally decided to open it for discussion. Is there really a white nh600/nh600d? Everywhere I see is silver and occasionally blue, but this picture comes up alot. Especially in ebay auctions, but after asking the seller it is revealed that it is really a silver unit, not white. Anyone own or have proof that this unit actually exists? I have a feeling it was just a prototype picture and never actually released (like the red rh1).

Atrac3plus, conversion is a very simple process to do. I converted all my mp3s to Atrac3plus at 64kbps (HiLP), sounds great and can hold 503 songs, instead of 240 in MP3 at 128kbps.

No I'm not obsessed with looking at track titles, but think about it. Without the 3 line remote and just the rh1, and you have a disc with say 500 songs on it, do you know how hard it would be to find the one you want? Very annoying just pressing next and previous over and over and not know what you are getting each time (since there is no track title display). Plus, you wouldn't be able to just browse, as a new song would play one you hit next/previous and no title display of course. MP3 support is useless IMO, atrac3plus sounds better and can store much more music per disc, conversion is a very simple process. I can upload on my rh10 fine, and have no need for legacy stuff as I've only been into MD since october. That's why I said what I said, without the need to upload legacy tracks, the rh10 is the better option. Plus you can also use the AA addon pack with the rh10 to get 30+ hrs of listening compared to 19 on the rh1. And you say you would be getting a snazzy sexy player, to speak for the rh10, I have to say it is a very snazzy player/recorder.
-
Go for the rh10 if: 1. You will be using it as a player as well (has jog dial + large display) 2. Recording without the need to upload legacy tracks. Go for the rh1 if: 1. You will be ONLY recording and need to upload legacy tracks. The rh1 is very poor as a player as it lacks a jog dial and cannot display artist/track titles on the small 1 line display, you will have to purchase a $70 remote to make it worth using as a player. The rh10 is the best all around player and can also be a great recorder, if you don't need uploading of legacy tracks.
-
What's your budget? The RH10 and RH910 are exactly the same exact the rh10 has a beautiful and brightly lit OLED display, while the rh910 has a plane, non-backlit, LCD display. If you can do without the display, rh910 for $150, or you can find an rh10 for around $200. IMO, the screen is worth the price.

Okay. I recently bought an MZ-NE410 for my dad as an early father's day gift and he loves it. Now my mother's birthday is coming up and I would like to get her a nice Net MD player too. I think I can pick up the awai am-nx9 for around the same price as the ne410 ($20 shipped) off ebay. But will it function the same as sony models? And can I play the discs used in the ne410 in the am-nx9?
-
I own 2 HiMD units myself, the NetMD unit is for my father and he doesn't need HiMD functionality. Plus I'm cheap and didn't want to spend too much.

I picked up one these for my father, early father's day gift. I'm pretty impressed, it has really nice build quaility (stronger than my 600D). It's very light and has incredible battery life (56hrs?! damn!). I got it for $20 shipped on ebay, came with headphones, sonicstage, and 2 discs, refurbished unit. The sound quality at LP4 sounds just as good as HiLP. This unit is well worth the price, I wasn't expecting anything this nice at that kind of price. The LCD shows everything you need, even though it's small. I'm know considering getting one for mother for her birthday in july off ebay. Maybe I'll get her a 420D though, so they can tell them apart.

http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopexd.asp?id=734 $332 asking price for RH1. I'm staying away, but I know alot of you guys would really love this unit.

I record nothing, I use Hi-MD soley as a playback device. It is the ultimate playback solution in my opinion. Cheap affordable media, long battery life, ATRAC compression to store more music per gig at while keeping high sound quality, and it is just much more affordable than HDD or Flash players. I started out with a 600D and got it for 80 bucks on amazon. Worked great for playback. A stupid friend of mine broke the jog dial, so I echanged it with sony and got an rh10 for only 30 bucks. The rh10 imo, is the ultimate playback unit. The OLED display is awesome plus everything else that HiMD offers. I ended up buying another 600D as a backup/workhorse unit on ebay for $45 bucks and use it as well. I really like removable media, one of the main reasons I use HiMD. HiMD is awesome for playback, take it from someone that does no recording at all. But unfortunately it looks like sony is switching gears and is now targeting the business recording market instead of being a playback competitor of other mp3 players, damn shame.

That's different. The EH1 is made to be slim and player-only, no inputs/outputs, not even usb. I'm making these recommendations to someone that doesn't have any himd player to write himd discs. The eh1 is nice as it is super compact, super slim, and all metal. And it is SHIPPED with the 40elk, pretty much solving any display/jog dial problems. Sure the unit itself isn't really usuable, but adding stuff like a display/jog dial would ruin the point of a player unit, being a slim and compact marvel.
-
Sorry for the late reply. I have a feeling the answer is no. Sony is now gearing HiMD to recording, which I believe is a mistake, but there is nothing we can do about it. Odds are, the world of downloader/budget units are over. The DH710 and 600D are the only ones and it will probably stay that way. I picked up a 600D off ebay for $45 shipped on ebay the other day. Great to have it as a backup unit and to take a load off my rh10, especially when going to large public places, it's my "grab n go" unit. I'd like to see sony make more budget units in the future, but don't get your hopes up.
-
I know it is capable of playback, that is obvious. But it would be a real pain to use as a player, especially if you don't want to use or spend money on a 40elk. With a display that can't display artist/track titles and no jog dial, a disc with hundreds of tracks is really unusable. That's why I said it will not function as a player.
-
Depends on your needs. I strongly recommend the rh10 for its large and clear display. It will show all track info and has a jog dial on the unit, unlike the rh1, which cannot function at all as a player. If your sole purpose is recording and no playback at all, the rh1 is better. If you want to use both playback and recording, or just playback, go for the rh10.
