The RH910 or RH10 are both fantastic choices over the RH1. My reasons: 1. Larger display 2. Screen shows artist/track titles 3. RH10/910 has AA attachment 4. RH10/910 has a jog dial to easily scroll through songs and menus 5. Much cheaper price wise I'd say get yourself an RH10 or RH910 unless you want the ability to upload legacy recordings.

One lone Hi-MD player in the minidisc section at sony.com. It's still hard to believe sony discontinued the rh910, rh10, and dh10p. This is a bad sign that sony is giving up on competing in the market of portable music players for minidisc, and only pushing their HD and Flash players in that market.

I hope sony is working on 2GB discs and up, that would be awesome.
-
Damn, when I first read the title I thought it meant FREE music if it's DRM (aka ATRAC).

I recommend the RH10, I absolutely love mine. The large display and jog dial alone makes it an all around better experience than the RH1, especially as far as ease of navigation goes. No one wants to hit the next button over and over to find the song they want, I'm still confused as to why sony eliminated the jog dial on it's latest md unit. Go with the RH10 unless you need to upload legacy tracks, if you don't, the RH10 is a much better choice for the jog dial, large display, and especially the AA addon pack. RH10 is a much better player than the RH1, hands down.

The DH10P cannot record via mic in/line in, so therefore, yes it is made to function as a player/usb downloader and camera only. I have never owned the unit, but it looks very attractive, something I might buy into one day. It has a large color display, jog dial, HD digital amp, and a camera to boot. I love my RH10 for playback (I don't record anything) because of the scroll wheel, large display, ease navigation, etc. The DH10P pretty much does everything the RH10 does + HD digital amp and camera (and color instead of oled). If you want a fantastic player with a nice large display and easy navigation the DH10P and RH10 are both fantastic choices, good luck.

I'm the one you are referring too that had the same problem on my nh600d jog dial, and recieved an rh10 through the exchange program. You bought it new through ebay, correct? As in it was new in the box completely sealed and never opened before with all paperwork? I bought my 600D off amazon the same way, completely sealed and never used before. I printed my receipt off amazon.com and sent it in with it, and they took it and replaced it. Try it, couldn't hurt. Print your ebay.com receipt and follow the instructions on the exchange website. Because it is so new, you may not even have to pay the $30 I did, good luck.

Damn, that sucks. Why did sony leave that out? This must be the first hi-md player/recorder without that option. Both my 600d and rh10 have the no repeat option in shuffle.
-
You will get anywhere from 8-14 hours, depending on the sound quality (64kbps will last longer than say, 256kbps). And whether you have quick mode on or whatever.
-
I doubt it, and plus you would have to pay probably alot for just that. Check ebay, 600D's go for under $50 these days.
-
Bleh! No real upgrade to the rh10 is being made.
-
If I couldn't find MDs or Units ANYWHERE. I would turn to Sony Walkman HD players. No way would I ever leave the ATRAC format and don't want to leave MD at all.
-
Keep in mind if you want to upload your NetMD recordings, it is ONLY possible on the rh1. The RH10 is easily available and for much less $250. You can find it for under $200 if you look hard enough on ebay. I found a site here: http://focuscamera.com/sc/main_item.asp?id...date=06_15_2006 selling it for $225 with free shipping. Good luck!

Yes definitely! You really need the 40ELK or you will be very unpleased with your RH1 coming from something like an ipod. If I were you, coming from a player-only HD device like an ipod, I would've gone for something like the RH10 (more player oriented, but still has recording features, and it is much cheaper and has a 6 line display + jog dial on unit).
-
Of course! 100 pounds is equal to about $185USD and there are many HiMD units available for that price or lower. What are your needs? Do you need recording features? Are you looking for more of a player or recorder? I'd imagine that all units except the RH10, RH1, and NH1 would be available for under $185USD. So your options would be: MZ-NH600(D) $50-$80 - nh600 has usb and line in jacks, 600d ONLY has usb port, so if you need line in, avoid the 600d and get the 600. But if you need mic in as well, skip both models. Both use internal AA. 3 line lcd display. MZ-NH700 $120-$150 - Much nicer design than 600(D), internal AA, has mic in and line in, and can function very well as both player and recorder. Can also be used with radio remote (purchased seperately). 3 line lcd display. MZ-NHF800 - $150-$180 - Same as NH700 except is shipped with radio remote. MZ-NH900 - $180-$190 - line in and mic in, HD digital amp for better sound quality, part aluminum casing as well. Does NOT use internal AA, takes gumstick battery + external AA, 3 line lcd display MZ-RH910 - 2nd gen unit, mp3 playback, line in and mic in, gumstick battery, external AA, 5 line LCD display Search ebay and check out http://minidisco.com. Good luck.

If you only need line input, by all means save money and get the nh600. But I feel the 700 will give you an all around better experience with the easier to use jog dial and mic input there if you need it.
-
You speak the truth. This thing is far from a dream-machine. All the reasons you stated are great reasons against the rh1. Especially the lack of a jog dial and being to only use the unit when you want too, sony didn't get everything right with this one. Hopefully, the other 3rd gen units will offer more (if there even are other 3rd gen units besides the m200).
-
No of course not. I actually only have about 40 or 50 xmas songs. I just like it to be on different disc, not all mixed in on my main listening disc.
-
Large display with jog dial.
-
For the japanese model, probably about $250USD.
-
I'm well aware it can playback music and that the quality is top-notch. I mean the convienance of playback. Like having a larger display (that can display artist/track titles), a jog dial (to scroll through songs, especially when you have a disc with a few hundred tracks). Sony should release models that are cost-reduced and aim more at playback users also, to give them what they are looking for in a player. Please guys don't get me wrong, the RH1 IS A FANTASTIC UNIT! But it was made for recordists and it is their dream unit for sure. But sony didn't release enough in the 3rd gen to please all, is all that I am saying. I do not use the group function as I like all my songs together. I will never be just another face in the crowd using a piece of shit ipod with low battery life and fragile HDs. I went to MD for removable and cheap media, long battery life, and not having to worry about a fragile HD. And I love MD, I am here to stay. I just want sony to continue what they have been doing in the past generations (attacking both the recording and playback market, not just one of them and giving up on the other).
-
Tunster, you have to understand something here. Of course the rh1 is perfect for you, coming from a recorders perspective. I use the MD format for playback and playback only. You ask me why I need the 3 line remote. Why? Because it shows more data and has a jog dial to scroll through songs quickly so I don't have to keep pressing next/previous on a disc with hundreds of songs on it. It's hard to find the one you want on a disc loaded with music with only a one line display. That's why sony should've produced more. Don't get me wrong, sony was GREAT to produce the RH1. It has many advancements and is a great upgrade to the NH1 (except for the remote). The problem I have is that they aren't releasing any other units to cater other people's needs, only recordists. They should produce a budget downloader that runs on AA's, a top of the line player oriented (that can record too) model (upgrade to rh10) and maybe one more player/recorder that uses AA's. Sony produced only one model, which only caters to recordists, grave mistake sony.
-
Low Volta, I am fully aware that the NH and RH models are from different generations, I just think sony needs to catch up on some missed from both 1st and 2nd generations. The NH1 is in no way to be considered an upgrade to the rh10/910 as they are completely different, one geared at playback, the other recording. Sony needs a more player oriented model, the rh1 is clearly an upgrade to the nh1. There is nothing wrong with that, but there has to be more options. Yes I know all the other models are still available, but it seems like sony is completely giving up on the format and only concentrating on recording. By doing this, the user-base will not increase, only decrease, as it now only serve recordists. Nothing for people looking for budget units or top of the line playback oriented units with recording functions also.

For more options simply and too show that sony is still interested in pushing the format. Here's how I think it should be played out. NH1 replacement >> RH1 NH600D/DH710 replacement >> DHXXX/NHXXXD NH700/NHF800 replacement >> RHXXX/NHXXX RH10 replacement >> RHXX EH1/EH70/EH50/EH930 replacement >> EHXX (or just release the EH50 and 70 worldwide!) That's how the 3rd gen should have looked. They replaced the NH1 with the RH1 (a small screened, slim, and all-metal unit). But no RH10 replacement (large screen, jog dial, AA addon unit). No bugdet unit to replace DH710/NH600D (AA powered). No replacement for the nh700/nhf800 (AA powered, line in & mic in ports, radio remote). No player-only unit (or atleast release the eh50 and eh70 worldwide to make up for it). Sony didn't get it right. There should be 3-4 new units. A player-only, a budget unit (AA), a AA powered unit with line in and mic in, and a player-oriented top of the line model with AA addon.
