Yes I love my HD1. Great sound and it is one magnificent piece of hardware with the brushed metal casing. I was able to get it for $198usd new, and right now on ebay there are refurbs going for $169 out of japan (the one's that come with a 35elk remote). If you are looking into getting one, I highly recommend it. It's amazingly small, light and thin. Plus it sounds great, comes with a cradle, has 30 hrs of battery life, and has a really cool green monochrome display that is reversable.

I don't have one, but theblueraja, a member here and over at http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/ has 4 Vaio Pockets but doesn't use the remotes. So I'm sure he will sell you one. I sent him a PM to drop by the thread.

Bleh, I don't like this move at all. Shows that sony doesn't care about selling ATRAC tracks anymore.

Anyone have this case and no longer need it? Cheapest on ebay is $12.99 + $7 shipping, and I don't really wanna pay $20 for a case. I just need something for my HD1 when I'm at the gym or whatever so it can be hands free.

Well after getting my HD5 stolen then the new one lost by fedex and now owning the NW-HD1. I have to say that although I don't think I'd revise my vote, the HD1 is one magnificent piece of hardware. The HD5 still gets the nod for some functionality advancements (initials search, removable battery, etc.), but I love my HD1! The HD1 with the brushed metal just looks so much cooler than my old HD5, love having a cradle, and it sounds fantastic (just as the hd5 did). Although in a couple yrs I may wish I had the removable battery, when looking at the manual it seems that replacing it is very simple. And $13 batteries on ebay make it even better. So would I change my vote? Probably not just because of the functionality, but I love my HD1! Made in japan really does mean quality, the brushed magnesium shows it.

I've done numerous testings and come to the conclusion that on music that has alot of highs and lows, LP2 sounds better than HiLP clearly. That chart is most definitely false. But on most songs I have trouble telling much difference. On my HD1 I encode everything in LP2 (since I have the storage to do so), on MD's I use HiLP.

No player is truly what it is said to be. My HD1 is 20GB, yet started at 18.6GB. No 1GB player is really 1GB, it's normal.

Did you try to drag the mp3 files to the player using windows explorer? If so that is the problem, you have to use sonicstage to transfer songs.

Yeah it's a shame, really wish there was some solution. I just don't get why sony would leave something like this out.

I wonder if this "re-launch" will include a new HDD player. The NW-HD line was awesome, however the recent A1000/1200/3000 were horrible. I'd love to see something like a NW-HD6. TBR on ATRACLife? Wow never saw that coming! Haha And if they released a 4GB MD unit I would probably get it, that would be so awesome, but we all know it would never happen.

Everyone wants them to drop sonicstage, but if they do that, how will we go about transfering ATRAC tracks to these new walkman? Unless they come out with new software that is ATRAC-compatible.

Yeah my pc is a couple yrs old (and only has 256MB of ram if that matters). And I'm aware that the newer players sort them automatically, that is one thing I absolutely loved about my hd5. But still a problem looms. There must be a way to just specificy where I want the track to go, I can't believe it's this difficult. I spent a little over an hr yesterday re-sorting 30 songs.

I think that's only true after the battery has been activated. I don't think they drain just sitting in the packaging.

Definitely the E002. HiLP is very acceptable sound quality (ATRAC3plus 64kbps), a little better than MP3 128kbps. That will give you approx 250 songs (4 min each).

But the low price makes me nervous, however the seller has 100% positive feedback and over 6000 feedbacks. I'm just thinking of picking up a backup battery eventually, but does this one look legit? The very low price has me skeptical.

Definitely go for ATRAC3/plus. ATRAC is proven to sound better than other codecs at similiar bitrates, and ATRAC3plus 64kbps is proven to sound BETTER than MP3 128kbps! Go for ATRAC of course, after all, it is a sony player, and ATRAC is part of the reason sony shines. Using ATRAC will also give you longer battery life of course.

I have a couple songs that are in WMA format. However, after the conversion to ATRAC (I know some quality is always lost in conversion), but WMA's sound absolutely horrible converted to ATRAC3/plus. MP3's sound fine converted. How do you recommend I should go about transcoding WMA to ATRAC to avoid them sounding like nails on a chalkboard (and I am far from an audiophile, but these sounds like crap!).

There is really nothing that wrong with Sonicstage, it has its quirks, but so does all software it's very usable, especially 4.2/4.3.

Not better, equal. The red line goes through both LP2 and HiLP claiming they are equal as ATRAC advanced.
