Well I just connect the HD5 to the deck, then the decks line out goes to my micro system which has its own amp inside.

The problem with getting a mdlp deck and having himd is that you have to have the music you want to listen to on two mediums. Obviously you can connect the line out to the deck and turn the input signal in, but its the same quality. The pro decks are made to be more rugged, and be able to slot into racks, and generally be abused lol. The home use ones may have the same same quality, at least i wouldve thought mine would lol If you can splurge I would demand that you get the JB980. The only problem with my deck and the other newer ones is SMCS protection. That means that if you record opticaly from a cd, you cant connect your portable to the optical out of the DECK and record, it will just give you an error message. Other than that little glitch, I love my deck. I got an extra 2 years warranty on it too. Obviously you can get it in black too. You can go for second hand but it doesnt have the 'chistmas feeling' when you open it up, and when you look at the volume levels going up and down etc lol. I sometimes connect my nw-hd5 to my deck when I really really really cant be bothed to be swapping discs and I dont want to listen to more than 2 tracks by one artist etc.

there are the basic decks, but those dont all have netmd as far as I know. What portable and phones are u using??
-
No you're right, but unless you have very good hearing or are just able to notice even the finest detail, you wont be able to tell the difference between SP and LP2 when the deck is doing the recording anyway. I cant tell the difference between Optically recorded cd tracks when im listening to LP2 or SP. Trust me, you wont even think about recording in SP when you have a nice deck.

I use my JB980 ALL the time. I have it set to pause-record while listening to the radio in case I hear a song i like, and when im not doing that I listen to my mixes and albums I have in LP2 which gets 2 cd;s on one disc. If you think LP4 sounds awful on a portable, listening to LP4 on a deck is actually barable. I also like the extra editing features like splitting tracks by milliseconds or seconds or whatever. The jb980 is also a net md desk, and I use that to transfer tracks to md from my computer. Another great use, is if you have an mp3 player and the output of it isnt strong enough you can connect the output of the mp3 to the input of the deck and bump up the input signal so that its as loud as a deck or a cd unit. I have it connected to my micro system (2 x 80 watts rms). Heres my review; http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12836

Hey guys, i got an enclosure, by sumvision and it has a prolific PL3507 chipset. The number on the chip below PL-3507, says 05224C. I found the site that has teh firmware updates, http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=44 but i just dont know which one to install and how to do it? I want to run my dvd writer with this external case using firewire, but i want to have the latest firmware. Which do I install?? Anyone with experience in this stuff able to help me out here?

meh, at least the sites still ok. Could they have got access to our email addresses on our profiles? That would lead to a rather large amount of spam in our email in boxes if thats the case

At the moment I use my CMT-SE1 which supposedly has an s-master amp in it, and sometimes use my deck (mds-jb980) for listening, there wouldnt be any point in me getting a headphone amp would there? Did you buy yours for use away from home?

Transferring songs in sp mode (net md mz n10)
mercury_in_flames replied to pinkun's topic in Minidisc
Is there a reason you are transfering tracks in SP mode? You are aware that SP mode when transfering over Netmd is actually 'fake' sp, in that it is the EXACT same bitrate as LP2, just wrapped with some coding that makes the files playable on a minidisc player/recorder without LP2/LP4 playback capability>? -
is there a warranty on it? how long?

Got to aggree with Rich here. Everyone has predjudice's whether they want to admit it or not, but there's no sense in discussing them as they just create tension. On topic, I will say that all those that are from other countries and do the jobs we think are too dirty for us, work very hard and deserve every penny they earn. Because of what alot of them have gone through, and from where they have come from they are alot more driven than many of us.

Hey banjo, and all who've read this thead if you ordered a 10 pack of discs from audiocubes, i'd do a trade. Ive got loads of Sony ES discs (74min). I listen to mostly rock music(def leppard, ratt, led zeppelin, ac/dc), some pop/rock (the corrs, the cardigans etc)and would like to try some classical music (strauss, chaikovsky, not really up for really heavy stuff like beithoven (sp?). I'd prefer music that was sent via optical from an original cd obviously. I dont mind LP2 transfers if recorded with sonic stage. Again quality would be nice with regard to bit rate the files were converted from. (best to record from an mp3 at minimum 256kb/s bit rate if from mp3 files) -gtr
