Diagnostics: unit for total recording time
Strungup replied to brnf's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
I dont know any code , hex or other wise , but as a bit of a sluthe , I can deduce fairly well Considering that , the N510 is #1 : released in 2003 that would make it 5 years old hence , #3 65535 days is out of the question #2 65535 hours is also questionable #1 65535 minutes is plausable but gives rise to the secondary question ,....... at 65535 minutes INTO the life span of the machine or 65535 minutes ago or in the past ( Backtracking ) ?? I would suggest at Real Life 65535 minutes , from the beginning to the actual location of 65535 minutes , but as the machine records as DATA in could be in Frames or DATA bits so, at sector 65535 , or at 65 hours :53 minutes: 5 seconds which would be more accurate I would think . or 6 hours ,55 minutes , 35 seconds Several options there as you can see the missing piece of info is , just how does the machine mark time internally http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-N510.html -
Walmart had taken over Seiyu , a Japanese Chain here , about 6 years ago , and now they are closing 60 percent of the stores . way in the red , and cant get the customers to come in .

well that is true the 37 was before they started to get a REALLY good handle on damping , and shock resistance

Ok , as of this post , I will not answer any more questions about the DR1 Reasons : #1 There is enough information in these posts for almost anyone to decide wether it is useful or not. #2 There are Audio clips , and demonstrations that sufficiently give an understanding of what it sounds like #3 I no longer own one I spent the day on an Island with my new DAT ( Sony TCD -D100 ) and my AT-822 mic The Mic pre in the DAT , Exceeded my expectations dramatically Every imaginable minute detail , was very clearly presented in my ears , And the form factor of the machine , the fact that it uses AA bats Rechargeable AA's work very well and with todays High Capacity batteries , the Battery life far exceed the Specifications I dont mind the real time Transfer at all , I can go from the DAT to the RH1 and upload that way , so I dont even have to burden my Mac in anyway . DAT Tapes have become much cheaper ( They are on Clearance everywhere so I will buy as much as I can ) So , there is a Happy German Drummer , who now has a Tascam DR1 that was Babied and has very low hours and a 4 Gb card in it And I have become quite content with what the DAT gave me . Flash recorders have a way to go to get to that sound quality They are very good for the Idea catcher , and posting stuff to the net , but MD still rules on that price level I have two separate Island recording , to qualify it for me , Sarujima , I took the RH1 and the AT-822 , Result , and conclusions : ... I need to get a VERY good wind screen for my AT-822 . Period , everything else was perfectly clear and dynamic second Island , Enoshima , DAT + AT822 : The DAT has a Mic limiter built in , and it is very well set for Nature and Moderate sound levels , I got an Extremely good recording of 1 hours walking , Hawks Calling , People passing , Boats in the distance , birds in the trees , wind thru the trees ( The limiter REALLY came in handy ) I did get some clipping but it was Cable contact issues , and windscreen issues from my mic setup ( I have the DAT in a Bag hanging from my backpack , so it swung around a bit and the cable moved a lot ) Those are controllable issues ( Proper case ( already obtained) and more secure cable arrangement ( working on it ) and a GOOD windscreen ( need to make it ) so unless something REALLY spectacular turns my head ( a Large sum of money , and MAybe just Maybe the SONY PCM D50) I am done with the Flash recorders . I Love my MD's , and I am Falling in Love with my DAT ) The Tangible Media , the working of the Mechanism , feel of it in the hands , Keep the Analouge attachment alive , and the results , are all you really need . So , If your a Working , Budding , or Bedroom musician , and need a Great way to practice Get the Tascam . If your into REAL recording , dont . Thanks for all the kind comments , I am glad I could have helped , and Tascam took some of my ideas and suggestions and made a NEW unit especially for Guitarist ( which is what I told them the Niche was really for for this recorder ) so you have two choices in that realm. As for me , My MZ-NH1 , My RH1 , and my DAT are going to get along very nicely .

I have seen the craze of digital cameras here in Japan , with the Cameras taking EVERY SHAPE FORM ,...........and now ....SIZE the cases for these cameras have ALSo become smaller , and as a result , some of the smaller ones are a perfect fit for an MD recorder Case in point , The small pouch types with zipper enclosures and extra pocket will hold the MD in the Main pocket quiet snuggly , and two blanks in the other pockets . I bought yesterday in a Closeout bin , a" LowePro Slider 30 " that is a Perfect fit for the RH1 leaving the REC activator open and exposed , while covering the OLED area to protect it , and the inputs are facing up at the opening of the case , so the remote , and Mic connector are uninhibited . This is a Digital Camera in the Case , I will post some pix of the RH1 in it later today ( I mean a PERFECT fit ) I put it in Sideways , so the Connectors face up and the screen faces the side , that puts the REC on the bottom left corner if your facing the Case it sticks out , so you can activate it . Works very well http://www.adorama.com/LPSL30RD.html so , everyone this thread , is JUST to show the CASES for your gear . So as Promised

Cruzer , .... Welcome to the Fray ! oh I have a Sony TCD -5M Cassette deck And a BUNCH of Vinyl .

I think you just need a nicer mic ......... It makes a HUGE difference . You get what you pay for most of the time , a reputable company name , and truly pro design . The mic pre's in the Md are actually very nice , but they do require a proper input to get to that "Nice" for lectures you dont have to really hide the mic , unless your being clandestine Cheap mics = Cheap sound .( general rule , I have a couple good "Cheap mics" ) I record Classical , and Acoustic bands with just my AT822 and whatever Md I have handy . No preamp , and never have complaints about the sound. Do you want to record Mono or Stereo , Do you want to Hide the mic or is it ok for it to be open on a table stand . etc , give some examples of exactly what your looking to do .

Old Post , things have changed , Mac OSX 10.4 tiger support HiMD transfer 2.0 just for anyone venturing into this thread.

I didnt mention Tapes in Cohesion with iTunes , I mentioned Tapes in Contrast of iTunes , that the Tapers are a Minority In plain fact all of us Audiophiles are a Minority . But I will say this is turning into a good conversation , "I wish you here" ...... so we could have a beer it would be fun to explore this in depth.

the 27 would be in the Cable , and used only for the RH1 #2 , Without the 27 , the SONY doesnt recognize the supply , so it doesnt turn on the circuit and instead goes into a safety mode #3 if the GPS charger had the 27 , it would work with the SONY , if your speaking of the GPS itself , It may not NEED that , it is a Circuit design issue. At #1 , a standard USB cable , cut off one end with enough cable to put it back together afterwards , follow the chart linked in the previous post take the wires that go to the end the plugs into the RH1 , wires 2/3 get wired to a 27 Kohm resistor, and taped over . then wires 1/4 get put back together , seal the whole thing , plug it in and see if it works ( the end the goes to the power supply will not need 2/3 so just clip those back and seal them)

I think he wants it to be a preamp as well . For stealthing the little tiny condensers could use a little more ampere than what the MD puts out , plus they are a Lower output than say the AT 822 I think I have an idea of what he wants , just trying to figure out how to fit it in a tube and make it 1.5 volts , That is the hard part . I can make a 9 volt 26 db gain pre , but it is Mono . to make a stereo pre , and get it that small will take some doing , will definitely have to have good components. ergo ........ it will cost a bit . Man I wish I didnt have sooooooo much work to do on my House , I could be TINKERING!!!!!

No APPLE isnt killing it , iTunes still does Album lists , and your music is stored by Album and or Artist . Apple is just another medium , I am a Mac user , I used to be on XP and go all the way back to 3.1 , Loved Winamp ( wish they made it Mac compliant) But put the Blame squarely where it lies , HomoSapiens need for instant Gratification ........ Whether it be Apple , Linux , Free BSD , Windoze,.... it would not matter . The portion of people who actually take time to enjoy something , for what it is and not what they want it to be , are a severe Minority . Slow Food society , how many members ? , Md forum how many members , Tapers , and Recordist's , how many left ? compared to the population of the Earth . we are a Minority. it isn't the Computers fault

That is because there need to be a 20 -27 kohm resistance between pins 2 and 3 of the USB for the RH1 to recognize the supply . This was covered in another thread about powering the RH1 , a lot of USB supplies only supply the Plus/Minus to pins 1 and 4 and no connections at 2/3 so the RH1 doesn't recognize them . http://pinouts.ru/SerialPortsCables/usb_cable_pinout.shtml You can make a cable that has a 27 kohm resistor between 2/3 , and then plug into that PS in your car .

@ Jupitears You may listen to Albums on your MP3 , but that makes you a rarity. Watch the Keynote address from Apples website , and see where the dAP is aimed , the Songlist , Shuffle , Playlists, This keynote , really brings out the Conformity factor , in a very subtle way , The "Genius" program in which your iTunes or iPod gets connected in an way to the rest of the worlds tastes and prefs , Your Playists get reprogramed , or preprogramed by "The Cloud " you select a song that your listening to , and hit the "Genius " button and based on that song a Random playlist of "Songs that will fit " are generated . as well as recommended SongS to buy . Sales are being based on Songs now , and you can see it in a graphical representation by clicking on an Album at iTunes store , the songs of that CD will be displayed below , with a Popularity rating next to each one , the most popular being at the top of the list , What it tells you is WHICH SONG is being downloaded the most The death of CD , LP ,TAPE , and the soul of the artist are WELL underway

you will get there eventually

baturjan , Raj . well said ,. 42 here , and well "in the know" , about album listening , and the album as a whole and as a work of art in of itself . The countless hours I have spent in studios to craft a theme , Not just a song , but a theme to the music , is a HUGE part of what the artist is about . And most private label artist are like that . Windham Hill Narada GRS Froggy Bottom 9th street records and a list that is just too long to type Albums need a theme for cohesion ........... Todays artists though , are under Big Corporate control and it is By the Song , package what you can , cohesion is lost , messages are eroded , and it is made for the iPod generation . Amos Lee's first CD is a very Good example of Cohesion in an Album the second CD loses it , Because it was done for a different purpose. Raja , even though we had words , I want to say I really appreciate the wording of your post above , I agree with baturjan in saying "you couldn't have said it better "

There are Kiosks here in Japan , where you can attach a USB stick , or SD cards , as well as several other types of cards, and buy MP3's download them to the card ,........ It just keeps getting closer and closer to "Logan's Run " and when I walk down in Odaiba I feel like I am on the Movie set of Logan's Run , only a little MORE modern The new term for PTSD " Post Technology Sociology Disorder "
