  1. Tascam has reissued the DR1 in a new form ( RED !!!) as the GT-R1 Designed for Guitarist . I may have to check that out !!!!
  2. Went to Hardoff yesterday with the Lead singer for" Ozark Road " after I had fixed his guitar ( again) anyway found a MZ-R3 in perfect condition ( Listening to it now with my Yamaha headphones) Jackie Frost Trio ( first Albumn) playing for 3,000 yen I got this In the Junk bin ( no check , damaged or accessories missing , buy at your own risk area of the store ) I found an MZ-E90, no charger , batt pack or remote . (I think I might have it somewhere !?!?) Update ( I HAVE the remote !! , and a Batt Pack.....!!! ) for 500 yen , working perfectly , ( Dream Theater , Images and Words playing in it now to test it ) I got this also , an older Nikon F-801 SLR 35mm film camera in very good shape , works fine , loaded it with 100 speed chroma , for a first run . All motor functions working AF working , Fully Manual as well 2,100 yen I got Not a bad day at Hardoff ( Bob , when you coming over >????)
  3. The unit says , 6 Volts , dont argue with a machine ( we are getting to close to that in todays world) !!! it needs 6 Volts . R50 is the same way 6 Volts input Positive tip , negative sleeve , 6 Volts , 800 ma ......... that is what you need .
  4. You may send those DVD's to me .......... Before I let Tor loose on you .
  5. Stereo imaging suffers a bit in the Tascam , the farther away the better the imaging , closer you get , the less space that is apparent Most X/Y configuration suffer this problem , M/S is also that way because of proximity of the mics being so close together A small mixer and separate mics into a recording device , is the ONLY way to get perfect balance The Audio Technica AT 822 into my MD is way Better in the Stereo field imaging , the AT 822 , into my TC-D5m is way better ( I have actually compared this on purpose, not just an observation ) A thunderstorm in the Tascam doesnt raise the hair on the back of your neck . Whereas the same thunderstorm in my TC-D5M ( Cassette deck ) will scare the bejeebers out of you thru a nice sound system . Go to the Internet Archives , Live recordings section , Greatfull Dead , Little Feat , etc , along with the recordings there usually is a description of the equipment they recorded with along with post processing that is a good way to figure out what sound your really looking for , and how to get there .
  6. I love Habib , I have some of his early music here somewhere his voice and rythym , very cool .
  7. I will just add , that it depends on the gear I am recording with . Each piece of gear has a different quality to it , a Good Pro tape deck like the TC-D5m it is worth it to limit the length of time in exchange for quality of sound , IE tape being 45 min per side at MOST for 90min tapes( never use 120's ) but I have a small stockpile of Metal 54 , 60, 46, 70 minute tapes all type 4 , I need some 90's if anyone has any ( unused would be nice , they are impossible to find ( I can get type2 Cr2O2 's ) just looking for Metal type 4's
  8. It is good to have you back Bob , Glad your OK !!
  9. I am using a program called LiveStation ( Win/Mac/Linux) watching Early am Timelife advertisments on NBC from the US , you know the stuff the put on when everyone is asleep ! This one is Timelifes "Rock Ballads Collection " and is being hosted in REO Speedwagons Lead Singers House , Hilarious to watch ENGLISH TV after being in Japan for 5 and a half years http://www.livestation.com/ was watching Deutch Welle a while ago
  10. try hitting the stop button twice , then play , and ffw to the track you want
  11. I noticed that when I listened to a Sharp with the 24 bit AD processor , I HATED it, it actually was painful after about an hour of listening .I cant remember the model but it had the Four prong headphones .
  12. Now that I have the NH1 , I have a Blue EH-930 I would be willing to sell . Charging stand ,Batt pack , Remote and Power Supply all included
  13. I have recently gotten very attached to the MZ-NH1 , .......5mw output L/R to the phones , Various customizable EQ's , Hd amp etc . I like the design as well , I think the RH1 should be in the case of the NH1 , but with the regular USB jack like the RH1 has
  14. sounds like there is a buildup of crud under the control panel , dust and other crap from just the age of it , and some of it might be bridging the contacts to other controls . Take some masking tape and sticky side up , taped a 6 or 7 inch long strip to a table where you can work , then using a Jewelers screwdriver , start taking the chassis screws out and place them ON the tape in the order you take them out ( some of them are different sizes) putting them in line on the tape will allow you to easily put them back in the same or reverse order ( A piece of paper marked with numbers taped down above the tape helps) you may need several pieces of tape , each for 1 section of screws ( Chassis , then inside , circuit board , etc ) Very gently clean the entire inside of the unit , Contacts with a Q-tip and Alchohol , clean the battery contacts same way , then close it all back up , making sure to put each screw where it belongs .
  15. As For Sony ..... no ( We ALL wish they did , a Big missing feature )
  16. Cool , I have a B10 as well ! " If it ain't Baroque ,..... Don't FIX it !"
  17. Right now I am recording a Thunderstorm With the DR1 , and the Furby for the Sony PCM-D50 on the DR1 covering the mics . MP3 192kbs Limter on ,Low cut @ 40hz , Mic sens Mid , Level at 4-5 , ....... for however long I let it run . It is sitting in a window sill that is over our sliding doors , and covered by an Awning , so It wont get rained on . Update : Listened to it this morning ( We are going to get MORE rain , 3 days now ,practically non stop thunderstorms ) I will make a snippet or two and post them later , but the Limiter didn't do to badly , on the distant strikes the sound is quite clear , but the larger / closer strikes I was really expecting a lot of breakup . I was somewhat pleasantly disappointed . One one particularly LARGE strike the limiter catches it JUST as it starts to go over the mark , but you can hear it straining . A little breakup in that one ( But a real nice air split just before the boom )
  18. First he must respond to this ...... then we will consider his humor . Or Imprisonment on a desolate wasteland planet , where he must face the dreaded Warblenuggers ....... http://video.yahoo.com/watch/2961725/8496605
  19. It depends on How good you want that recording to be , the 70 isnt a concert mic , it is an Idea Mic , for Catching Ideas at Close range , like sitting down with your guitar , or A lecture etc . The Frequency response , and Sensitivity of the Mic will be the determining factors in the quality of recording . I Have a lot of mics , and each has their own Character , There are mics I will use for a Loud situation like am Amplified Concert , or for a Classical Un-amplified concert I wont use anything but my Audio Technica AT-822 with my RH1 ....... But then I was an Audio Engineer in a former life . (Still record people , just not as a Main job ) If your arent trying to Stealth your recordings , and they are Open and Legitimate ( done with permission ) you may wish to invest in a Much nicer mic than the 70 , you wont regret it . I know that spending 250 dollars on a mic ( or more ) is a scary thing for some people , but if your going to do a fair amount of recording , then get the best sound you can . I used my AT-822 the other night with a pro Tape deck that has a nice limiter in it to record a Marvelous thunderstorm the other night . And now that I have that When ever I get to make my OWN CD , I will have self captured samples , Of REALLY good recordings of Nature , Seashores , Thunder , Trains , People Places , whatever , to work into my own recording . Or just to capture for your own enjoyment . A nice mic is a JOY , and well worth the extra money . PM me with your email address , and I can send you a sample of a Baroque Concert , done with the RH1 and the AT-822 , http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/resource...822_english.pdf

  22. @ R900....... I know very well about the Dragon !! You probably had the WM-D6C Cassette deck , I had one of those as well . To Analouge !! on a Side note From 1957 , an Article about "Audiophilia " Monday, Jan. 14, 1957 Audiophilia A new neurosis has been discovered: audiophilia, or the excessive passion for hi-fi sound and equipment. The discoverer: Dr. Henry Angus Bowes, clinical director in psychiatry at Ste. Anne's Hospital for veterans at Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que., himself an audio fan. Tweet by tweet and woof by woof, at a research meeting of the American Psychiatric Association, Psychiatrist Bowes spelled out how audiophiliacs behave. Most of them are middleaged, male and intelligent, drawn largely from professions requiring highly conscientious performance (the church, accountancy, medicine, especially psychiatry). They are often single (or if married, childless). They rarely play any musical instrument well themselves. The hi-fi devotee, Dr. Bowes found, "is very frequently of compulsive personality, and tends to go through rituals in the playing of his recordings." What distinguishes the psychopathological addict from the enthusiastic followers of this (or any other) hobby? Dr. Bowes answered: "His tendency to become preoccupied with, and dependent upon, the bizarre recorded sounds . . . combined with the urgency of the need and the final insufficiency of all attempts to satisfy it ... The sound is turned up and up until it reaches the physical level of pain . . . One addict told me he would not be satisfied until he could hear the drop of saliva from the French horns." Those who are not well organized emotionally, said Dr. Bowes, "will treat their hi-fi set as the emotionally immature treat a car—as an expression of aggression, as a power symbol." To many it has a sexual connotation: addicts may be seeking a "sterile reproduction without biological bother," and in extreme cases, a record collection becomes a "symbolic harem." Significantly, says Psychiatrist Bowes (married, no children), an addict's wife almost always demands that the volume be turned down: "Perhaps in the male's interest in hi-fi she senses a rival, as shrill and discordant as herself." An unconscious motive for buying expensive equipment is often a desire for revenge, said Dr. Bowes. "One very compulsive patient, who found the sexual side of matrimony completely nauseating," he recalled, "was financially ruining his fairly wealthy wife by his extravagant purchases . . . while she obtained instinctual gratification elsewhere. As he somewhat ruefully remarked: 'She's interested in low fidelity and high frequency.' "
