Use a small mixer and seperate Mics for each instrument , the run from the mixer to the RH1 line in put , your will get a MUCH better capture , and good levels , plus individual placement ( Panning left and right) in the stereo field , From an Audio guy

The RH1 , is a Minidisc , And will interface with your PC/Mac , the only thing missig is a Limiter for overload protection , The recording Quality is Pristine The reason for the DR1 are the functions , Overdubbing and limiter , w/effects , You dont need to hold up on the DR1 , just stay away from 1.10 check the firmware while your at the store . The Next update will very likely have implementation , of my suggestions to the rep . I will put everything in a Text file , as well as audio samples . It will be properly represented .

I just translated the Software agreement with Google , and the first article of the agreement say #1 :you are in Japan , the others about indemnity and Backing up your stuff , and that you allow to Make 1 copy for personal purposes . etc , .......... The last part I found interesting , If you violate these things we can terminate the use of the software and charge you for damages . So over the net , it is linked to Sony , that is why there isnt a Full package intsaller on SS .......hmmmmmmmmm , glad I am on a Mac .

#1 you should have run the cable to the LINE input , and set the settings for Line , coming out of the PC , Mic 1 Input is somewhere around 40 db below line level , and is a totally different impedance , by running Line Level into the Mic 1 input you were overloading the Mic pre's on the Tascam . Try the same test again , but Go into the LINE input and use the volume of the PC to control the input level , while watching the meters on the DR1 Each of the Inputs on the DR1 is a Different Impedance , Mic 2 doesnt NOT run thru the Preamp the Mic 1 input does , but does go thru a Level control , Line input in Direct to the A/D converter , so No Limiting , and No Level controls , but Very clean input . Both Mic 1 and Mic 2 , have preamps , each one is seperate from each other though one being a straight Monoblock , the other being a Stereo proccessor Only use Mic level impedances on Mic inputs . Also at High Gain , with Mics , .........Yes there are some serious Artifacts , THAT is the Sound sample I want posted so as to SHow Tascam . A rep will be at my Home on the 22 next week , so Get the Posts , straight , and ready , I will bring him to this thread , and download the samples to a CD for him . There is a Basic principle to follow here , " From the Mouth of two or three ,..... a Thing is established " so , the Same issues , by different people clearly stated Then things get fixed . Thx

I like them , as well as Bobt , I have a seperate box for those , and still looking For Pink Floyd The Wall, and a bunch of others I missed out on . The Wall was a Two disc set just like the Album was . The are Mastered on better equipment than what most people have , so they sound pretty darn good if you ask me . My Billy Joel , get a fair amount of play time , as well as Boston, I have Kansas Point of no return , need Leftoverture , Rush, Yes, Vivaldi ......... I like the concertos

I have 1 of those , cool machine , I have the 5FR as well , Odd about the mic noise , I dont get it on mine , what kind of mic are you using ? might be a cable shielding problem .

only do 1.02 , leave 1.10 alone for awhile until the next update , I am Talking with Tascam about the issues , and as I have said I want everone to post the issues here so I can show them , I will be meeting in PERSON with Tascam next week sometime ...... and they will take a look at my machine and this webpage , so , Be Courteous , Concise , Clear , and EACH person , posting the SAME issues ,...... Makes it CLEAR the need for correction , if you dont post the issues , they wont get fixed . If you have noise , state settings on the Machine , Type of noise etc , .....If it is a Function issue , ......................you get the point .

I redownloaded the 1.10 from the German site , and it updated with that , but wouldnt update the 1.02 Tascam is actually willing to take a look at my machine , so I am making an appointment , maybe it will get corrected . I will have some interesting pix later , I think the internal mics could be better mounted , I have a Mic project going for the Burren Yoga , guy in Ireland , trying to duplicate some problems he was having . So I might be able to get two birds with one stone ,........ If I can make some cushions for the internal mics , I will post pix for you guys The Handling noise is a pain .

Who wants to be the guinea pig? So if I send you some money you'll order it for me ?????? that is like 85 - 90 dollars for that recorder , my curiostiy gets the best of just for that alone eh!

Actually OZ ............ I think I can agree with that , and am partially guilty of the above stated infringement . This is the Md forums , ............. a sub forum isn't a bad idea though. I dont think the ship is going down , but the masts are broke , and its caught in the Doldrums out in the middle of a Very big ocean .

From the Tascam post , Weijanwei , posted a link , where there were sound sample , and it sounded So thin and wimpy , absolutely no bass at all .

That deck goes , for anywhere from 400euros, to 1200 (new) not a bad 70 bucks at all are you going to need some DAT tape? ............ I think I can help with that.

That Swissonic does look interesting , The inputs switchable Mic.Guitar,Line level with seperate level controls on each input , that is a nice touch . Wonder what it sounds like ??????

Raja , I tend to use my Older units a LOT more than the HiMD , the only thing I really use the HiMd for is to capture stuff I want to upload , If I have no intention, of uploading , then it stays on disc SP , or LP2 most of the time I have more SP discs than anything , because they sound good , and I know they will play on any machine.

The US Tascam site just posted version 1.10 update so I tried it, Made matters even worse . now there is no bass even with the Low cut off , the internal mics now sound midrangy as can be oh well left hand doesnt even know the right hand exists I guess. the noise levels are outrageous now , HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

What is needed Numerical Meter Display , that extends across the entire screen.and related info below or above .Sensitivity control over the Limiter, the same as other effects " Level and depth" A better driver for the headphone amp , it is just to noisy to accurately know what your getting.Better compatibility between the Internal Mics sensitivity , and the Mic1 input sensitivity. I am using a 300 dollar mic thru mic 1 and should NOT have to use a preamp.The inability to accurately ascertain what you are capturing , will potentially ruin whatever your recording , at worst , and at best will still cause you to spend a GREAT deal of extra time , in editing the sound you have in order to make it usable . Tascam ,......... That isn't right , you should be MUCH more careful about the software you release , and think about what is more important . The people who are buying this , are Buying it to record with , all of the other features are hidden and secondary , and are understood only after the unit is in hand . I dont want Limiting that prevents me from using it as a Field recorder, Nature sounds sometimes require limiting , but nowhere near as much as the DR1 is set for . In a louder situation , then a more compatible limiting is needed. Also when using as a field recorder , the Use of a Mic that is designed FOR field recording , should have access to an input that will translate what is being captured properly . The RH1 from Sony is a Perfect example , as can be heard in the MP3 in the post above . the AT 822 , works very well with the RH1 ,......WHY? and WHY doesn't the DR1 . The AT822 has been around for years , did you not TEST , different mics , to make sure the Mic1 input would be up to Par , or did you just consider that an afterthought . I am not happy with the carelessness that has been shown . You have cost me work and time . .................. I should be recording ...............

What is interesting , is the Onkyo , Panasonic, Kenwood, and everyone else is allowed to crack it and go to the extent of actually MAKING MD's Recorders and Players , based on ATRAC technologies , which are Sony Copyrighted , and they arent being sued into oblivian ( kickbacks anyone???) HiMD =Onkyo ............. not Sony , .............nobody sees that ?
