  1. The way the USB port is wired on the Battery pack has everything to do with it , I have tried numurous packs , the best one yet for me is a Taurgus USB pack that uses AAA batts charges from a USB port as well and built in LED light so you can check stuff in the dark . The only downside is it isnt AA's . Triple A's just dont hold as much juice . but it works VERY well , The RH1 recognizes it instantly and starts charging . It was made for iPod ..... OH the Irony.............
  2. That is what MD is all about , since the very first one , ..... Recording. To quote an old song " Nobody does it Beeeeettttter , "
  3. Just for safety , Burn the .wav files to CD as a Data CD , and there is a Menu item To Burn a Windows freindly disc . then copy the .wavs to the PC from the CD . I think when you copy the .wav to the MD it will get DRM'd or SCMS'd but if you burn a Data disc instead of an Audio Disc on CD you can copy to the PCthat way clean , You have to do that in the Recording Industry , so much stuff is mixed system Mac/PC, Digital Performer> Protools> over to someones PC running Cubase , then over to someone else who has Logic Pro an Acid , then back to the Digital Performe guy with his MOTU setup . it all gets burned to DVD as data , or MO drives . The MD Transfer wil transfer the wavs , but I havent tried going to someone elses Comp with it afterwards , But I could see it being a prob ,especially with Sony
  4. Dutch and Spanish as well , a true polyglot . right on . After I started studying Japanese I forgot all my German , and Spanish , it is soooo difficult . Learning by sound only goes so far ,If you can actually read Kanji , you easily get lost because so much of the Language is Picture word based , and the Meanings of those pictures has more to do with what is said then the word itself. 7. Wiz , ,.......... Dude , English , French German , ...what other tricks do have have hidden away ?
  8. The Berhingher UB series "UB502" is the smallest fuctional mixer , And they are cheap usefull great for podcasts and just to have around , the only thing about the 502 I dont like is it isnt battery powered . Just recently they have started up with the Portable mixer again and several companies have them . here is a link to a company I have done a LOT of busines with , and s direct link to the Battery powered mixer section , browse theor whole site though , including B Stock , Discontinued, Returns ,Refurbs , you can end up with a Much better deal and something that will really suit your needs ( and a few extra needs that you dont know about yet !) I like Battery powered if its good quality , read the specs S/N Ratios ,IEN's ) Input . Equivalent. Noise.) Fullcompass has a lot of cool stuff , but will also GET what they dont have for you . good service .Fast delivery . http://www.fullcompass.com/category/Mixers...DC-powered.html A personal recommendation for a small Mixer is this one , It is Tapco ( Mackie) you cant go wrong with this one , Two mic ins , and two stereo ins with effect loops) http://www.fullcompass.com/product/324913.html 59.99
  9. You can only use one input on the recorder , from a mixer you use the Line input , You use a small mixer to bleed stereo mixes and mono mixes from the other setups , the small mixer is to control JUST the sound going to the recorder , and a pair of headphones
  10. I dont mind if a band actually knows what they are after , it's the wannabee's that get on my nerves. If there is some actual understanding of acoustics , then there is a discussion , provided there is time of course . stage6.com has a concert by a group called "Dreams Come True" ripped from a dvd , download it and listen to that mix , Three seperate systems plus a dedicated Stage monitoring setup , very nicely mixed. Audience Blends nice , Band is smooth and tight , Levels are very well balanced.
  11. none that I can post , bands are pretty sensitive about that , it copyrighted material . Just have to visualise the room , how much of a stereo spread you will be able to synthysise will depend ,on the Sound Guy your working with , and his willingness to do things , and Your own audacity to do things without him knowing what your doing if he isnt a cooperative type . I like recording so I usually setup for that purpose , Basically three types of live sound, Mono Mixed , Sub Synthysis = LOUD , Smaller venues , so that everyone gets the same thing Stereo/Mono Mixed, Biamped , dual Board setups = Larger venues , Where the front part of the crowd gets hit with a Full mono(Exept guitars and keys) Blast in the face , but farther back as you go some Dual Phased Mono element gets in giving the Image of Stereo ( It isnt a true stereo , but it is good) Stereo / Mono Dual = Production Sound , For Live recording ,DVD Concert filming , etc = Two seperate mixing stations with bleeds off of each other for the final mix to the recording console
  12. Soundguy here , One way to do this , depending on your board ( you might need an extra small mixer for this ) If you have bussing on the mixer you can run an external set of mics placed strategicaly in the audience ( well above the audience actually) but not to far back from the stage , the reason you dont want it way back from the stage is a Time aligment issue. The signals from the mics will be late getting there in relation to the stage setup . Omni mics , pointed just a little out from the stage ceiling , towards the audience and not directly above the speaker array . but well away from the Bass drivers. Run to a small mixer dedicated to a recorder not fed to the Main sound , and also a bleed from the Main sound to that small mixer . This way you get the individual instruments (If your any good at sound , getting the stage mixed properly , not using direct connects to the amps but micing the amps , and using a set of Redbox Speaker Emulators on the Keyboards to warm them , then that mix will sound pretty good to begin with ) Then bleeding in the Highs and mids from the speaker arrays , plus the Audience sounds from the two external mics , will give clarity that isnt Harsh or overly Direct sounding , Use a Dual channel Limiter on the small mixer effect buss , and you can get darn near a studio recording out of it . At least that is how I do it .
  13. A&W's Chili Dog , with extra onions ....... god I am actually drooling( I have been over here too long )
  14. Your first post ,.... showing your MD being put to proper use . Raise the glasses mates .
  15. Thx guys , I appreciate it , I dont like to talk about it , but I used to do the Bike Messenger thing, and in ST Louis MO back in 1990 I was at Market & Jefferson , on a Fri afternoon , an old man ran the stop light at 53 miles an hour , and I just happened to be in his way . he was driving a Ford F-150 late 70's early 80's model boxy square front end , expired liscense , No insurance,No registration , and no money . So you can imagine what the past 17 years have been like .
  16. I am mad be ause my back has been out for a month keeping me from getting certain repairs done so I can get paid ,so I can send people thier stuff. Got two packages sitting in my room and cant get the money together to send them

  18. Take a look at the way Atrac works , also the circuitry before the A/D conversion , the Mic pre is all analouge and very good at that , Atrac doest work like a traditional digital Quantisation/Anti Aliasing noise reduction system , it works more like a DBX or Dolby S system in which frequency analysis based on amplitude and strengths are arranged and removed ,reduced , or saved , it really is a beatifull design. MP3 takes general Bits and Bytes out to reduce file size , whereas Atrac uses a very specific freq analysis that has an Analouge "Feel" to it . At least to me it does , when I listen to MD , and when I listen to CD There is a very subtle difference , not easily quantified , but its there . A little warmer , just .. its there. The article quoted consumer level specs for cassette , I thought that was a bit unfair there are much nicer decks , For example the famed and revered Nakamichi CR7A , other wise known as the "Dragon" that and Sony's Portable TCD5M ( god I want one of those) The specs on the Nak are dang near CD and the noise floor is ABOVE cd quality . The Sony Portable 89 db S/N was quite good enough for anyone , and along with it that "Natural" compression of Analouge recording . But again it is subjective to the listener , what each ones ears are inclined to , which is why Yoda said "The ways of the Dark side this is , endless it is, comparing ,not of listening . The way of the Source , everywhere it is , to Listen , all one needs to do . The Source , brings happines to those who know it ." For a basic idea of Analouge beauty and theabove mentioned Sony / Nakamichi Decks ,klik this, http://www.archive.org/details/gd83-09-18....7225.sbeok.shnf You an easily hear that the High frequencies far exeed the 14 khz mentioned in the article , This is from out in the Audience , on a Portable Tape Deck The TCD5M , then Transfered to Nakamchi CR7A > Dat> CDR
  19. A stereo Tube preamp will give you the compression that gives that "LP " quality Analouge vs Digital , failed to bring out the natural Compression that occurs when recording with analouge equipment . Natural Compression . As of yet unattainable by Digital means It was a good read , but make sure to notice the point about the open Reel to Reel , of certain caliber being able to get a 4hz to 200 khz theoretical range. That with that "Natural Compression " equals and Amazing Soundscape. Yes Digital is Cool , and can be discussed untill the moon bleeds from nauseation. MD sounds good because it is that Blend of Analouge and Digital . I think a good acceptable stance was hinted at in the article , is that in the recording enviornment today , the two need to be together .
  20. here are some of my doodles , A walk in the Park , This park is about a 25-30 minute walk from where I live http://picasaweb.google.com/strungup66/PicsOfJapan
  21. I heard the last one ,21.1 as well very clearly on just my macbook speakers , so I know I would hear it in monitors, I did notice the the 16 khz region seemed weak I had to play it twice . 19 was audible , 8 was quite loud compared to the others
  22. You have a site where we could see some of your photo work , You have too nice of a selection of cameras , too just be letting them sit on a shelf.
  23. The MX -34 will let you use Balanced Microphones , (XLR cables) so your choices are pretty wide , Most of the Audio Tecnica Mics will run on 9 Volts phantom and up so they would have no proble with this preamp , A good place to research a lot of mics without having to search out a bunch of different webpages, is FullCompass http://www.fullcompass.com they have an online catalouge with full specs for everything as well as a Basic price ( what you see online wont nesseccarily be the price you pay , you call them or email about a thing , and you can get some options) "B" stock , returns, Blemished etc.
  24. I think he is more fixated , I was just playing along . Nope my fantasy girl , I have actually met ,
