  1. I record analogue real time, which I should have clarified. I spent a long time making comparisons, maybe too long, but reached this conclusion after much trial and error. For me anyway. I have a pretty good CD player with great converters-which may help, and no thanks to the 500 dollar cable-unless you will fly me to the islands to pick it up!!!
  2. I don't transfer anything by USB anymore anyway, I go direct real time and, in my opinion, get much better quality
  3. I find myself using SP as well. Nothing worse than going to play a disc on an older unit only to discover it is an HiMD disc
  4. I have no issue getting discs both new and used these days. I guess we all want to know when the well will run dry. I figure another 10 years before they become scarce, anyone have an opinion on this?
  5. In a moment of MD madness, I was wondering who uses HELLO KITTY MD's?? Anybody out there gonna fess up??
  6. Now thats great news, I need to check that one out as my battery life is crap as well
  7. With this device in particular, although also with the format in general, Sony made bad decision after bad decision. It makes you wonder how a company brilliant enough to develop such a format could screw it up so bad afterwords
  8. Yeah, the eject button is a bit much, especially since the volume and menu controls are microscopic
  9. That is the only issue I've had with the unit. The jog lever is hyper sensitive.
  10. I always wanted one of those for the large display but not at that price
  11. I dropped my MZ-1 off the stairs to an airplane about a month after I bought it. it worked fine. i was sold on MD from then on
  12. yep, i agree, great analogy
  13. I still have and use the first unit made, the clunky MZ-1, built like a tank. I had it repaired once years ago, and it has worked great ever since. I just realized there are a good number of 'fear" threads on this forum. People are truly worried...
  14. When I think about any anxiety associated with this issue I think the fear of not finding discs, units, batteries etc is compounded by the wonder if a new technology that sounds as good or better will come along (it ain't MP3!) and we will all want to unload the MDs and have to start over with our collections. The sound of digital will surely improve and even now SHM-CD is making noise in Japan. I have several of these disc and they DO sound better than CD but I'm not going to cart 26 dollar CDs back and forth to my car etc. My IPOD touch sounds like crap through my car stereo. My MD sounds very good in the same stereo and great as a stand alone with headphones (Shure E5). I have a decent investment in MD, around 100 discs, a home player and three portables. People like Blue Raja and Guitar FXR and others have many more than me and I figure have other types of digital players as well. I guess if you are happy with the sound ( I am) and don't find having to hunt for discs etc in the years to come (not so happy), its a good format to stick with.
  15. Aside from the multi formats, does anyone know what it does? USB for MD? Storage in unit for MD? Display song info on screen?
  16. REAL TIME SP is great, a bit of work, but great sounding.
  17. Gotta say I never thought of doing it but I don't see why you couldn't
  18. I dread the possible day when discs and machines are no longer attainable but I figure thats a long way off. I don't worry about it
  19. Yeah, I think that is true with all MD recorders..at least with mine anyways
  20. Just curious who would buy pre recorded MDs or Hi MDs if they were available?
  21. Pre Recorded HI MDS, now theres a thought! With all the new formats (Music Pass?) they might do well to go back to HI MD and do just that. A viable format with liner notes and its portable AND has great sound. Sounds too good to be true and its 10 years old! think its a great idea that they are likely too blind to go with
  22. One thing that puzzles me (actually there are many) is that in a good number of these type threads, people say they cant find blank discs. I have no trouble online finding discs. What gives?
  23. Yep, Im only using my Hi MD for storage of photos and podcasts I want to keep. As I have a deck for MD and several players, I use them for my music
