  1. A 79+ minute super-compilation of Janis Joplin in which I made from the 2 CD set The Essential Janis Joplin
  2. A toast, to another ATRAC freak from an ATRAC freak! Indeed you hit it right on the head, and in fewer words then yours truly. I am just listening to one of my super-compilations I made.... of the late great Janis Joplin (all tracks originally taken from The Essential Janis Joplin 2 CD set, in which I bought just to make this then later sold after making this compilation MD.). I could give a rat's a$$ what Sony and the RIAA think about it, especially since Sony now has their filthy hands in the pockets of the record companies, who are mainly responsible for the eventual demise (but not without stockpiling of home/pro/portable/car units, accessories, and media by tons of loyal MD/Hi-MD users/owners) of our beloved formats, ATRAC/3/3+ and MD/Hi-MD.
  3. I do have an advantage with MD that no PC-based or stand-alone (even pro like my HHB CDR-850, in which I use to make the master CDs) CD burner has, and that is that I can edit, re-sequence, and even digitally boost the signal level (using my MDS-E10 pro MD recorder in either S.F. Edit mode or with the digital recording level) in order to mix older CD masters with newer remasters that are obviously louder in volume than they used to be, considering that most if not all (except for post-2000 EU units before hacking) are only 5 mW per channel compared to most older PMP's. As for the "obsolete" factor involving the proprietary MD format and ATRAC recording system, I as well as you and most other find it superior to MP3 in most KB rates and it just depends who you ask as far as their unmatched versatility, and it is a great thing I never even thought of MP3 or about becoming one of the many unfortunate brainwashed iSheep out there who don't realize just how superior, despite the limited storage capacity I will admit, MD is to practically almost every form of media out there, with the possible exceptions of CD/DVD, although MD out lives CD and DVD as far as lifespan is concerned, as CD-R/DVD-Rs have a tendancy of losing their data due to age and wear and tear, and oh, how we cannot forget the vulnerability of scratches CD and DVDs have that we MD freaks don't have to put up with. As for selling the CDs back after doing the MD super-compilations, I only sell the original CDs that are used to make those, as far as the others I do keep the CDs of those that I just do straight-on CD-MD copies of, like my CD albums. Remember what this man says, in the same vein much like Guitarfxr and bobt say "use the Source": ATRAC OR DEATH!!!
  4. I agree. I just smply digitally record some of my CDs to MD and turn right around and resell those CDs after recording them on MD. That is what I do with my CDs I use to make my 75-79+ minute super-compilations before putting them onto Hi-MD, and I even go out of the way to burn a backup CD of those compilations in case my master MDs get stolen/lost, etc. Sometimes when recording live shows or concerts I use MD as a recording media, burn a master CD of the show, and then (thanks to MiniDisc's exclusive reusability, try doing THAT with an iPod!!!) erase the MD after transfer to a more permanent media.
  5. Hey there Sector, just one question, does it work with Windows XP Pro? It would be a great alternative to using the analog output in my PC. Thanks, Ray Jackson
  6. Got any pics of that Sony fanny pack handy? I just want to see what it looks like before potentially buying it. Thanks, Ray Jackson
  7. Hey, kVox, I do happen to have an MZ-NH700 that would interest you. I already PM'ed you involving perhaps making a deal on one that I am going to unload, as I have plenty of MD/Hi-MD units already and I am in the market to get rid of a few, some I have had for years (mostly legacy- MD-only), so look for them in upcoming days, as I intend to make some much-needed money for some business here at home.
  8. Yo, Kevin, I do happen to have an extra MZ-NH700 I am intending to get rid of, so PM me and I can give you a quote, and since you already have the Hi-MD power adapter for the North American Hi-MD units from your old M100 (model no. AC-ES3010K), compatibility with foreign power adapters (this unit is from Sony Australia) won't be an issue. I also wonder if you own a PC or a Mac, as that will determine whether this great unit will work for your intended purpose.
  9. I use my MZ-1 for MD > MD copying (through its MZ-1-exclusive optical output) with my MDS-E10 pro deck (for personal use only!), as well as for DJ use. It's a great alternative to hauling out one of my decks.
  10. As far as headphones are concerned, the words "worse than awful" usually apply with any and all "stock" (supplied) headphones/earphones. Really, everyone knows you cannot own a PMP unit and live with stock headphones, everyone will agree with me that you've gotta go aftermarket with it, and assemble, piece-by-piece, you own arsenal of equipment to use around your RH1, such as many sets of phones (for different types/genres of music, remotes (like the "crown jewel" of them all, the RM-MC40ELK, microphones (such as the ECM-MS907), and other accesories, and maybe a carrying cae to put your gear in. This forum has a wealth of info on everything you need to know to make your player more enjoyable, fr a long time to come. Some stock equipment is OK, such as Sony's own MD velcro pack included with some car MD units (designated with a "CK" at the end), and some other accessories come to mind, just too many to list here. Just because they are supplied with other units does not mean that you cannot use them with other units, I own a lot of factory "stock" gear that I use with any and all my units. Log onto http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/acce...s/web/index.jsp for Sony's DAPC and also check out eBay and Audio Cubes and Audio Cubes 2 for all sorts of possibilities.
  11. I just got one of those Boostaroo Revolution headphone amps (in black) for my measly 5 mW per-channel Walkman units for use with my D777SL (24 ohms) and NC60 (100 ohms in passive mode, 40 ohms in active mode) cans, as I see no need for a Penguin Amp, as those are meant for higher impedence headphones like Sennheiser or Shure units. I just wondered if any of you own one, and what they have been for you.
  12. Well, I will admit that portable is more convenient, and in that case the NC22s would prevail, plus they do sound better, featuring a bit more bass and less shrill than the NC60s (the shrilling on them kind of reminds me of the EX71 IEMs IMO), and in that case the NC22s would prevail too. Also, at 41 years old, and especially with 13 years in the music business and having not worn ear protection both on stage and at live shows, my hearing isn't what it used to be, and lucky for me at my work we are required to wear protective earplugs (or ear muffs) due to a very noisy environment, and since getting my job back in August, and as a result of having to use the plugs/muffs, my hearing has somewhat improved to the point where I can turn down the volume on my Walkman (from 20-22/30 to 16-18/30), and the impedence of the NC60s, which is twice as much as the NC22s (40 ohms for the NC60s compared to the NC22s low 20 ohms in active mode) is indeed a turn off from them (and other cans) as well, as because of the NC60s high impedence I have to boost the volume and that is not too good on my somewhat-improved hearing. Also ear plugs/IEMs are more discreet and can be worn in any weather and with a hat or bicycle/inline skate helmet (or hard hat, another required item at work) or any hair style at that. Also, sometimes durabilty may not be an issue in this case, especially if there is bulk involved, and this is where cans just won't do. Also, on another thread I posted involving the D777SLs (and most other cans at that) Guitarfxr was right, the higher impedence of cans (minimum 24 ohms as opposed to IEMs 8-16 ohms) as well as SPL sensitivity (in dB) is indeed an issue when it comes to the lifespan of the PMP used with it, as today units "give up the ghost" much faster than the ones, from say, ten years ago, and running them at a higher volume (which runs the amp at a higher temperature) wears down the life of a unit to the point where we here on this board need more backups and reserves of our main units more than ever for the reason just mentioned. Those are why after the response on this thread that and also considering the issues with my hearing, I would keep the IEMs if I had to have one or the other, except for recording studio use where isolation and focus are keys to making a good album for sale to your fans. Basically for Walkman use I would go for IEMs while for home and studio use I would go for cans. It is just a matter of the proper application to use them for, I think that is the key there.
  13. I was only posting an opinion poll, but thanks. Actually, I would prefer to keep both (and will at that) because sometimes I might want to switch in between the two as some music better fits one or the other, or sometimes it would be more for convenience as well as SQ between the two of them, When I am at work, I sometimes like to use the NC phones (or IEMs) at work to shut out the outside world, or when I go on walks whenever use of my inline skates (such as during wintertime) is not possible, just to shut out traffic noise or outside noise, however for my inline skates I prefer the open-air EX85SLs to go with my designated unit for them, the RH710 and MC55ELK remote. When at home or in other envioronments I prefer to use the open-air EX85s or EX90s, or the D777SLs for a matter of SQ, as those have a bit better overall SQ than the NCs. As for the leather case, yes, I have seen how Ishii put togeher his RH10 with a pair of NC50s (I assume they are the Japan Edition), perhaps I could put together either the RH710 or RH1 with my NC60s for a pictorial (to be soon aired right here on both the MDCF and the ALC) even though my main portable unit is the NH700, of course. Thanks for clearing my thoughts for me, I won't be selling any of my phones anytime soon (except maybe the stock bundled ones that came wth my units perhaps), as I am in no financial crisis enough to sell any of my good cans or IEMs, after all I have started collecting phones as well as units and remotes just like the rest of us, and it doesn't hurt to have a variety of ear candy as well as PMP's, in this day and age when electronics give up the ghost much faster than in years past.
  14. I have bought many items from "Buy From Japan" in years past, in fact, they are my exclusive Sony headphone/IEM dealer, and I can assure all of you out there that Jun Ibaraki and the fine folks there sell only genuine new in retail box Sony products direct from Japan, and it arrives lightning fast (usually in about a few days after shipment) via EMS Speedpost (Express Mail from Japan), and they have earned my trust because "BuyFromJapan" sells nothing but the real thing below retail. I agree that if the price of a pair of EX90SLs that are claimed to be "wholesale" (like at $15.00 USD + shipping from China) is too good to be true, it usually is. I have seen EX90s come from China in so-called "bulk packaging" that are obvious knockoffs, and indeed the feel of the so-called "aluminum" finish is actually plasitic compared to the real ones I buy which are aluminum.
  15. I have both of these 2006-07 model NC phones from Sony, including a Japan Edition version of the NC60s (because of the Japan-only 0.5m remote-friendly cord), and if had to rely on only one of these great sets of cans, regardless of their SQ, which one would you recommend? Please note that I also own the U.S. EX71SL, as well as the EX85SL, EX90SL N.U.D.E EX Monitors, and D777SL Altus HDs (all those are the Japan Edition, due to the aforementioned shorter cord).

You bet, man. I myself enjoy legacy players and recorders, the only time I use Hi-MD (MZ-NH600D/700/RH710/RH1) is for uploading/downloading (of legacy formats to my PC and also for extended playback). but yes, even 10 years later after first getting into MD, I do continue to use the legacy formats, as live on-field recorders (MZ-R70 and MZ-E33), as well as at home (MDS-JE520, MXD-D3, and MDS-JE480), in the car (MDX-C5970 and MDX-65), and of course, in HMW Studio One, my home project studio (MDS-E10).
  17. OR, you can get the MZ-M200 Hi-MD unit, which is basically the MZ-RH1 with a different model number (that is the ONLY difference between the two) and a bundled microphone in the package.
  18. I myself use a Case Logic Belt Pack to keep my unit and extra discs/accessories, etc. in, and like to keep the remote cord under my shirt and simply use the short cord (0.5m) on either of my Sony JE Version headphones I own in my lineup (N.U.D.E EX Series [EX71SL, 85SL or 90SL] or Altus Series [D777SL or NC60] from Japan). I always like to go out of my way the get Japan Edition (JE Version) of these phones because of their exclusive shorter (0.5m cords with 1.0m extension) cords as opposed to the U.S. versions (1.2m/1.5m cords) like at Best Buy or Circuit City which have inappropriately (for Walkman use) long cords.
  19. Hey Nate, What is his name of business, maybe I'll stop by there. Also, have you checked out my MySpace Music site yet, http://www.MySpace.com/BIGHMW I am playing a show up at the Boiler Room here in PT this coming Friday night, and maybe we'll chat some about MD and H-MD while you're up here. I am currently a gangsta rapper under the stage name AK47, (I used to be a thrasher named The Heavy Metal Warrior from 1995-2002), so check out the tracks and videos on my MySpace, then come to the show!!! Hope all of you MiniDisc heads down in SeaTown will come down and see me play.
  20. That is why we are all much into buying and not as much into selling, because that statement is absolutely true. I do agree with Guitarfxr that the ones (mainly legacy units like the MZ-1 and the MZ-R50, around 1992-2000) that were Made In Japan were much better built than the ones coming out of Malaysia now at these days.
  21. Before you spend $328.00 USD on these babies from Audio Cubes, check this out from Jun Ibaraki and the fine folks at "BuyFromJapan" on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-MDR-EX700SL-Headp...1QQcmdZViewItem and http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-MDR-EX700SL-Headp...VQQcmdZViewItem You save 80 USD when you get it from them, and they use EMS Speedpost Express Mail (15 USD shipping) Who will be the first to review them?

    RH1 Troubles

In that case I will get a back up of it too, or at least the M200, same thing anyways.

    RH1 Troubles

Same here. I only use the RH1 for transfers and recording also, as far as my players are concerned, on top of the rest I own, you can now add an NH600D on to that list. The more units, the more ways and the longer I can enjoy MiniDisc and Hi-MD before they all go out on me, and I have tons of both legacy and Hi-MD units, believe me Just chillin' and listening to some tunes on my trusty NH700 with my newly-acquired MDR-NC60 (JE Version, see my upcoming review later on it and the D777SL this week!) NC headphones
  25. Beautiful, dude. Great shot.
