Don't know about you, but it works me!! While its a bitch to get going, once you get the dicipline down...its managable
-
Unfortunately there is no easy way to convert. The only was to do it is to record the tracks in real-time to MP3. You can thank SONY and its proprietary .OMG format.
-
I agree with Avrin, cut your losses and start anew. It is the best way, instead of just banging your head and crossing your fingers hoping you can salvage something that is most likely impossible..... PS - your not the first to committ suicide for SS's downfalls. PSS - when it comes to SS, if it ain't broke don't try to fix it
-
Correct...meaing that you would have to load the tracks from scratch again. Sounds like you already know. good luck

I would not be surprised that after doing all the work to get back to 3.4, that it still will not work. I read a previous post where someone spoke of the databse structure between 4.0 & 3.4 being very different. As a result if your trying to go back to 3.4, it will not work because the structure is already modified. Just a note to keep in mind. Please let us know how it goes.

When you play your track on winamp the bitrate changes and never stays the same, hence VARIABLE BIT RATE. SS cannot play these types. You will need to convert to a consistant rate - 128, 160, 192 etc...
-
Are you sure your MP3s are not loaded in VBR - variable bit rate format?

Nah, the things are great, especially the older ones. Those were the ones that use to be in anodized aluminum cases. Like I said they are really durable. When I say cheap,I mean cheap!, I have had about a dozen of them and sold them all. You can find them as cheap as $30 with lots of accessories - MDs, case, pouch. You'll be very satisfied if you get one. Ref the link for ALL models All you want to know about a model and options can be found here. Good luck

Do a search with database as your peramter. There are a few posts that I mentioned about trying to save your database. I got it to work for me once, but the second time it was beyond repair. I ended up backing up all my MP3s all over from regular CD(MP3) format to DVD format. What used to be 24+ CD, has now come to be only 6DVDs. All tracks have been tagged and should my DAP crap out again, all I have to do is load my 6 DVDs again. Trust me I got this down to a science now.

I don't think WMA files can be transfered to a SONY DAP, can they? Regardless, just convert it to MP3 or ATRAC then upload it.

- I use my MD player for work outs. It's versitile, durable and very cheap. - For being out and about I use my Sony VP DAP player. The VP has a color LCD and a enough space for your whole library @ 40GB. I have 36GBs used and thats practically my whole library of music of ALBUMS alone. Cost for me to get this was $150. I had to purchase a new battery @ $50, because I bought used and the battery was practically dead. With the new battery my DAP lasts 2 days without charging with moderate use.

Best to do clean your OS of all past links to the SS software. Be sure to delete the registry keys to start the install again clean. (search the forum for the steps). Make sure you do not have: - beta IE installed - WMP10 (i think that's the new one) - If so uninstall them and go back to the previous versions. Several people have had problems (LOL...several..LOL) with SS with the new M$ browser/software. - Be sure to do your windows update to get your computer updated. - Be sure you have most up-to-date Direct X version - Be sure to install the same REGION SS version as you did with your previous. (NOTE: best to use the Asian version....for some reason that one doesn't create so much problems) - I am not a fan of the web installer....even though I like to control where the program should be located. That's all that I can think of now. Try it out and let us know.
-
As I said before, uninstall and re-install. Several of us have had this problem. It took my 3/4 times and I ran through all the trouble shooters.....checking WMP, SS, Netframework blah blah blah. Then magically it worked.

The service manuals you see were all contributed by members who had forwarded copies to the site. It is a collection from the members, for the members of community. I myself have contributed a service manual (MZ-R37). If there are manuals that you wish to see, you would have to purchase the manual, usually provided in .pdfs from an outside source. If you would like to purchase a specific manual and then contribute to the collection get in touch with Ishiyoshi who has a reference for you to get touch with. Be sure to mention us.

Grenert, do you have a link to this story? I would love to read up on it.

U-S-A !!! U-S-A !!!

Wise words for the Sony DAP users: IF IT ISN'T BROKE, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT! aka, if your current SS version is working, then don't upgrade. BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP ...Oh did I forget to mention, BACK UP your library before doing anything

Welcome to the Forum! Please be sure to do a search before posting. This is a topic asked by many of those who have joined. Your options are limited. You can use the following software: GYM, MP3 File Manager, Sony Vaio Music Transfer, Network Walkman Browser. All will accomplish SS functions, but you will still need SS for track title editing.

Good 'ol capitalism at its best!

While the software/support sucks big time, there is a dicipline to be learned to deal with "The Madness"
-
...don't you love Sony ??!?!?!? I agree with Ken on this one. This is process can save alot of headache . . . when it works. PS - I have made several posts about this on several problems. Do a SEARCH to find - type database to narrow the search
-
Sorry to hear your troubles. I wish I could help you out, but it sounds as though you've done all your trouble-shooting. It is odd though isn't it??...No changes had been made, though at some point the unit/software decide to crap out . . .

You wouldn't by chance have the supporting links for this do?
