from wot i've heard the pricing of the newer Hi-MD units will be similar to that of current units...so IMO it would be worth the wait since it's only like a few months away from being released...
  2. it's usually viod if u muck around with any component of the MD...and if they found out that u tried to hack it they'll charge you if they fix it...
  3. yep sonicstage can be used with the N1 unit...
  4. if u own a deck or a unit with optical output u can do it digitally otherwise u have no option but to recordin via analogue cables...
  5. there's not much difference between SonicStage and OpenMG...just that SonicStage is aesthetically more pleasing (albeit more annoying) to use...(i.e. it takes more clicks of the mouse to transfer to MD) both still retain the dreaded check-out limit but it's better off if u use Nero + SimpleBurner or RealOne Player to get rid of this...
  6. thanx for the info Leland...now all we have to do is wait for any reviews on the unit to see if SS2.0 is that big of an improvement or not...

don't think u can on this unit i'm afraid...

    JE780 and NetMD

i have the JB980 unit and it works well with my copy of winxp...not too sure about win2k but if u can install openmg/sonicstage onto it and the drivers for it u should be good...
  9. hey there...details thus far about exact transfer speeds are sketchy and we won't know exactly until the units are released...i'm also thinking of getting on for my notebook as it would be a lot better than having to use floppy discs or flash drives...
  10. if u have an optical output on ur PC use that...convert the cd to wav files and record optically that way...
  11. delete the .omg file on ur hdd and re-encode the file u want to transfer in LP2...and yeh kinda ur outta luck if u want to record in a higher bitrate as u sacrifice the space for better quality playback...
  12. have u tried re-installing the driver??? or connecting the USB cable to the unit when SonicStage is running???
  13. it's probably that the CD that was burned contained some sort of SCMS protection so the DVD unit's optical output picked this up and u get what u have there...split tracks...
  14. when u check out in one specific mode (say LP4) to the unit and check it back in to the PC it will still retain the mode that u checked it out at...i don't know of a way to check in an LP4 track to an LP2 track...so if u wanted to check it back into the PC in LP2 mode then u should transfer to the unit in LP2 mode...kinda like an mp3 when u transfer to an mp3 if u originally had it at say 192kbps and u compressed it to say a 128kbps and transfer it over u can't expect to transfer it back on ur PC as a 192kbps track as u've already compressed it as a 128kbps file...and by reinstalling did u mean re-importing it back into sonicstage??? if so then yes u still have to do this..
  15. nope unfortunately u need to get a new unit to recognise the new high capacity MD's...

    Why pay more?

u get more features from the N10 over the N810 as well...there are some things that the N10 has that the N810 doesn't...plus the N10 looks kinda funkier than the N810 IMO...it has a backlit LCD stick remote as well as all the bells and whistles that make it the flagship model...it is also a smaller and lighter than that of the N810...true it shouldn't cost "that" much more over the N810 as it's not such a big advancement over the N810 but then again it's a Sony so we expect to see a pretty big difference in price...
  17. the N1 i own and don't have that many problems with it...i'd say the sound is a LOT better than that of the N510 and N710...feature wise ur not losing out on much as compared with the units and since the N1 used to be the flagship model there are some features on the N1 that are not on the newer units...not to mention that it is pretty small and light and has a backlit LCD remote...
  18. the JE480??? i have noo idea...i'm not too familiar with that model but if it has a timer function then it could possibly do so...check the user manaul to make sure...
  19. oops...sorry they don't work anymore... :? nope sorry i don't know of any other sites that will have everything u need...
  20. u can u/l ur recordings but it can only be done in real-time so u'll be sitting there for a LONG time waiting for the u/l to finish if u recorded in LP4 and have a LOT of MD's to u/l from...but more info can be found here in this thread...
  21. the only brands i've used before are Nikon, Canon and Minolta in normal SLR film photography as i have a few old models lying around the house...in terms of digital i usually stick with the trend...either units from those 3 manufacturers make nice units that take really nice photos so it just depends on the price in the end i spose... i would prefer using Canon's EOS-1D over Nikon's D100...but then again there is a massive difference in price...

    Character Limit

don't think u can....there is a limit on how many characters an MD can hold and i don't think there is a way to change that...
  24. apparently they will be out in April in the US and no u need to use the new units to be able to utilise that amount of space...
  25. try taking a look at these sites (links) below... [Site 1] [Site 2] [NetMD driver]
