  1. i wouldn't call the 510 "old school" it sports NetMD and more advanced features than that of the R series of units...that and it's a pretty recent release...IMO the N510 would probably drop once the Hi-MD unit come out but not too sure of the pricing...i'm thinking of getting the NH1 unit once it comes out myself but that would approximately be about A$800-900 which is reasonable to me...they will also release more lower end units but i'm not too sure how much they will cost...i would probably think it will be similarly priced to the units now (depending on the series)...
  2. i would think so...it's been a while since ur player so the technology has vastly improved by now...if u still prefer Sharp's quality of output then the DR420 wouldn't disappoint u...the Sony on the other hand has quite a few features that u can play with but the output of it isn't as good as the Sharp's...however both of them will be more advanced that ur old player...

    mac + OS X

i've used an iBook for about a week and so far it was pretty good...most of my friends have no problem with it at all so it shouldn't be a problem...i'm not too sure that NetMD was even supported by the Mac...hopefully it will be in the next generation as it gets annoying trying to transfer songs from the Mac -> MD...
  4. apparently yes the Hi-MD units will be able to act as a high capacity storage device for both data and audio...and yes it also will (hopefully) sport a new uploading feature that is faster than realtime...so yes this would be very good...too bad it still uses the dreaded internal li-ion battery....
  5. did u guys try to plug and unplug the USB cable from the unit after the software was started up???
  6. i would suggest that if u are not in a hurry to get one then wait for the new Hi-MD units to come out...

    help plz

i don't think it does transfer the track titles as optical can't transfer track titles from PC -> MD...so ur kinda stuck with titling each one individually i'm afraid...o.O very daunting task especially if u record in LP4...
  8. not too sure with SonicStage but u can do it with OpenMG...i can't recall the site where it held all the relevant software (OpenMG) i'm sorry...i'll go search the boards for the site again...
  9. the N10 does NOT have an optical output...the optic cable that came with it is used for recording digitally from a source and not recording to a source...as the unit only has an optical input...

    help plz

there is a program called mp32md that's free that i use...it works relatively well actually so u can take a look for that on google or something...the R501 isn't that old actually...it was in the same age bracket as my N1 so about 2 yrs ago i think it came out (i can't really remember)...
  11. yep this is the highest quality recording mode... i'm afraid so...but there are ways of getting around these... yes as ur MD unit doesn't have an OPTIC OUT jack so u can't record digitally from the MD -> PC...only the MZ-R1 (first portable MD unit produced by Sony back in 92) and high end decks from Sony sport OPTIC OUT jacks... if u want digital uploading then look at either the new Hi-MD's coming out very soon or invest in a high end deck with Optic Outputs... don't think has been done yet i'm afraid... unfortunately no... i don't think they would allow u to utilise the USB port on the unit to upload to the PC digitally...
  12. heyy there...i've briefly skimmed through that link that u gave above...seems that there could be a problem with ur Sonicstage program...try updating it to the latest version via patch update and this usually sorts out most quirks...otherwise try to re-install the software and maybe the NetMD driver as well...
  13. sorry this took a while for me to reply to ur message but as i c that no one else has tried to help u i will give it a shot...from what u've describe there is nothing as far as i can see that u have done wrong...the problem lies probably within the program that u are using...i would suggest a re-install (of Sonicstage and maybe the NetMD driver as well) or an update to the latest version via a patch to see if it irons out any of the quirks that u described above...if all else fails and the unit is still under warranty take it back to an authorised Sony center for it to be taken looked at...again i'm sorry about the length of time it took for a reply and i can understand y u are somewhat angry about the lack of response on the boards...

    help plz

basically all u need if u have that XiTel PC Link is just any software that plays back mp3's such as Windows Media Player or WinAMP or whatever...all u do is make sure that the PC Link is connected from ur PC's USB and ur MD's OPTICAL IN jack and it's just a matter of hitting the play button on the PC's software and Record on the MD...and no the small CD inside the caddy can't be removed and "burnt" as MD uses Magneto-Optic technology to record and read things (uses magnetic fields and lasers) whereas CD's are only optical...so if u did take it out and put it in a CD ROM drive it probably wouldn't be able to read what was on it...and by player did u mean as a "playback only MD unit"??? if so then i would say that Sony, Sharp & Panasonic make good units...i've owned units from these three brands and can vouch for them...
  15. not entirely sure yet as Sony is very sketchy on the details concerning Hi-MD...but if anyone does find out about it, it will definately be talked about on this board...so check back occassionally...
  16. um d/l the upgrade and patch up OpenMG/Sonicstage...this usually clears up most quirks u may have with the program...
  17. take it back to repairs to get it looked at...it's the best bet of getting a working unit again...

    mac + OS X

not too sure yet as we are yet to see more spex or a review unit...until then i'm not too sure if they've added mac support...
  19. most of the Sony players have speed control (well the higher models) as with Aiwa...not too sure about any other brands though...
  20. i think if u take it back to an authorised Sony repair center they'd be able to fix/replace it...
  21. i don't think u can...because my older mezzo system didn't allow me to record from it...or if it did i didn't know about it...i'm not too sure about the newer versions i'm afraid...try and get a hold of a user manual or ask for an in-store demo to see if it works...
  22. i don't think u can do it with that unit...u need a deck to do a toc clone...i heard that someone has recovered their deleted songs successfully....
  23. i don't think this can be done unless Sony has this feature inbuilt into their software (if they have done this i have yet to find it...) but otherwise i don't think u can...
  24. ah i di'n think about the chinese translation lol...
