  1. I have never considered it and I doubt it would occur. Why are there two forums? This forum was created by the webmaster to supplement discussion about news topics posted on the main site. There was no leadership or active administration here for a year. I stepped in, cleaned it up, and it has become a real forum. The T-Board does not have active administration, and the FAQ's are outdated. It is it's own entity, and I wish not to participate in it's success. I post there enough to support it, the webmaster of that site can handle it on his own.
  2. I must say thank you for donating such a large sum, tmeg. You really are a true asset to this community.
  3. I have decided IPB before I read this, so I'm glad you like my choice. Anywho, a child could retool phpbb as I have. It is not very difficult - in fact, it's almost elementary. That's one of the main reasons I am dissatisfied with phpbb. The santy worm is a powerful reminder of the dangerous side effects of GPL'd software. Never again. We must've recieved more than a million page requests per day for a short stint there. This would not have happened with closed source bulletin board software. Yes, the vulnerbilities are there too, but the code for IPB or even vB is much more robust and not susceptible to such silly things. Plus, the forum is growing by leaps and bounds. phpbb does not preform well unless you tweak incessantly and in my honest opinion, it's not worth it. With IPB, I'll be truly scaleable without having an anuerysm. Plus..the features that IPB will bring, and this new server. I am going to have an album for all of us to share live recordings, maybe pictures and whatever else. p.s. All posts, user names and etc will be easily converted to IPB. Nothing will be lost.
  4. All the best from us here at minidisc.org. 2005 is going to be a very exciting time for the format and surprising changes will occur very soon.. Additionally, we will get a new server, better forum software and more! I look forward to continuing discussion with you great folk and building the best MD community possible. All the best. p.s. Bless all who have passed in the Tsunami or are afflicted by such.
  5. Welcome to the forums. Are you based in the UK?
  6. Perhaps degredation from your physical activity [sweat, etc] has caused issues with the unit. Like tx stated, the S1 is a very durable unit for this purpose and it also features a orange backlight on the unit itself! This would probably be the ideal unit for you and is easily obtainable for $50-75.
  7. Yes, it will work just fine in an overnight download session.
  8. Nice. Remember though, when charging high capacity AA batteries like that, it's best to use an external charger.
  9. Thanks, Syrius. I really appreciate it. Latexxx, I'm not worried about it as the site isn't responsive enough to allow Adsense to be effective. btw, thanks for the donation Bjorn Isebaert! I can not thank you enough for your contribution. All donating people will recieve special benefits when the new server comes around, and they will be nice.
  10. Welcome! Nope, you're limited to the usual 60, 74 and 80 minute discs. You can always use LP2 and LP4, of course.
  11. Yes, that 40ELK remote is the best investment [aside from better batteries] that you can employ for this unit.
  12. So, are we saying here that recording via AC power carries this distortion? The only time I tried recording with AC power I had the same result. Please don't tell me that it's like this for everyone and there isn't a solution.
  13. Welcome hp. Yes, I'm going to have to agree with Latexxx on this one.
  14. Latexxx, we already serve google ads. They're much more obtrusive when you're not logged in. The amount we have total [nothing in hand yet, just promises] is probably around $50ish, maybe more, maybe less. I'll be throwing down a good bit, Eric will be dropping a lump sum.
  15. Hello, As you may or may not have noticed, the forums and minidisc.org have been up and down like a good rollercoaster lately. In light of such, we are going to upgrade the forum's server, which is also shared by minidisc.org. Most of you don't know that these combined sites are nearly delivering 14 million page views per month! This is very straining on our 500mhz Celeron with only 256megabytes of RAM [more specs: here]. Unfortunately, servers are expensive these days. There is already a predetermined amount of money set aside for this upgrade, but to sweeten the deal, why not donate to us? Minidisc.org has been the portal for Minidisc information since 1995, delivering more than a couple hundred million page views in it's life and making our community the great one that it is. These forums, whilst young, have served nearly 20 million page views! The total amount of information available at both of these sites is staggering, and we want to make sure that it's never put down to due what has been occuring as of late. We have been hit incessant times by a virus spreading around the internet afflicting severe pain on servers using PHP and phpbb. The virus has not completely invaded, as patches are in place to disallow such. As you may or may not know, the forum I administrate here uses phpbb. We have recieved millions of hits in the last few days from people trying to hack the site, bring it to a crawl at times. Unfortunately in the midst of such, errors resulted from the overflow of activity and caused corruption within the forums. Some of the data was lost [more than a couple thousand topics]. The most important data from these topics was somewhat saved, but unfortunately, a good chunk was lost. To avoid this in the future, we must upgrade and possibly change forum softwares. If you wish to donate to help this forum and minidisc.org get a nice server upgrade for everyone to enjoy the Minidisc experience better, please donate to my paypal account here: All contributions will go towards the server upgrade and perhaps the cost of closed-source forum software. If you are not keen on donating via paypal, please e-mail me at the aforementioned address and we'll work something out. I thank you for your time, and no matter the result, a new server and forum software will come soon to give us the best experience possible.
  16. Sorry A440, I absolutely hate Norton. It's garbage bloatware that doesn't even detect viruses well. I've seen that the free online scan at housecall.trendmicro.com consistantly find viruses that Norton, McAfee and even AVG will not. For the last year, Trendmicro's virus engine has been king, and this is from experience of diagnosising more than a thousand infected computers whilst at work. Sorry for bouncing on Soulseek. Looks nice.
  17. Five minutes per cd is too long for you?
  18. I understand your needs. Like I said, a Sony NH900 would be ideal if you wanted something now, if you are patient, then I recommend waiting for a Sharp Hi-MD unit that would hypothetically debut in 1Q 2005.
  19. Okay, after some talks with the webmaster it looks like we're getting a server upgrade soon. ETA: Jan '05. Anyway, looks like we may also change from phpbb to Invision Power Board or vBulletin. I am very excited about this, and I hope you guys are too.
  20. What? I've made hundreds of product recommendations along these lines and others, so, it's true. :rasp: Sorry if I come off harsh, but you wouldn't want to repeat yourself incessantly, no?
  21. Yes, try the different bitrates.
  22. Yes, and it will be a very powerful boost for the format.
  23. We've made a ton of recommendations in the past, which are easily accessable via the search function. Nonetheless, I would wait until the second generation of Hi-MD to see what Sharp offers. Sony's NH900 is the best option for Hi-MD at the moment, however. I would not recommend a non Hi-MD unit for live recording.
  24. That's basically what I'd done, but the loss of usb thumbdrive was totally unexpected. I'm tired of this server, I'm seriously considering moving to a different one aside from this one that's shared with minidisc.org. Additionally, all backups will be on my Hi-MD + hard drive - those will never be near the wash. p.s. Don't worry, I was able to save alot of stuff.
