I use a pouch myself, and honestly, I rarely take my units outdoors [weather permitting]. It is getting nicer out, so I may actually venture with my Sharp DS8 or my girlfriend's Kenwood S55 - definitely in a pouch or the felt bag that is included with most units. I would put the pouch/bag in a cargo pocket, or my back pocket. Maybe you need a lanyard strap? Look them up on eBay.

Did you see TOC edit after the recording was done? The unit has to preform a TOC edit after a recording before you can take the disc out of it.

Hi, and welcome to the forums. The remote in question works [and semi-works] with a wide range of units. What's the unit in question?
-
1.) You would want to use 256kbps ATRAC3plus, aka Hi-SP. Check this out: http://www.sony.net/Products/Hi-MD/capacity.html#3 2.) The remote works like any other Minidisc remote. It features buttons which can pretty much do whatever the buttons can do on the unit itself. Record, edit, group, track, sound/volume, radio [in this case, since you'd be purchasing the NHF800], and a few other things. I will admit it seems like it may be a bit cumbersome cycling through tracks in such a manner - and that's where the benefit of having up to 20 groups and 2,000+ bookmarks comes into play.

Well, if they ship to Canada then that works too. Are you sure you only found three Minidisc-related items? Usually eBay Canada has more than that. Try searching in titles and descriptions..

Hiya, welcome to the forums. Good range of questions here. The best price in my mind is what Sony quoted as the MSRP, which is $7; don't pay any more than $10. It honestly seems like if you were to delve, you should go for the NH900 or the NH1. I myself am going with the NH900. With the debut many folk were impressed, but moreso by the technology and new options rather than the Sony units themselves. Expect great things from Sharp, Kenwood, Panasonic and anyone else later this year or early next. I can imagine those units will be very interesting and much more promising [each brand with their own signature functionality, of course - if you read more you'll see]. I think alot of people might be holding out for Sharp units it seems, as they offer superior portable recording ability. What can we expect as early as the next generation? It's hard to tell [wireless, data drives, higher mW (yeah, right), better battery life for sure + much more]. I know for sure that higher-density Hi-MD discs will come eventually to keep up with the never-ending progression of HDD portable music players. See, the thing is - HDD technology and Optical technology borrow off of each other. To think that one will outdo the other is absurd, as each wouldn't have come this far in the first place without the other. I mention this because eventually you'll have interactions with HDD-only people. Do what you want, not what the fad is. I will say this..Hi-MD is very promising; if not now, at least what it can be in the future. We're merely at the doorstep, so to speak.

Have a Hi-MD question that doesn't need a thread?
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
No, that's incorrect. Hi-MD has two seperate modes, Hi-MD mode [for PCM, Hi-SP and Hi-LP] and NetMD mode [sP, LP2, LP4]. -
Hi, First off, there is no "30 gig" disc. Only one gigabyte is on the plate, and that's in conjunction with the new Hi-MD format. Now, when you state digital line out, do you mean an actual line out, a fake one [basically the volume all the way up with no bass/etc], or a digital optical out? I'm assuming you meant optical out, and the answer is no. I really think that the new Hi-MD format is going to be your best bet. You can upload your recorded works via USB, and whilst this isn't an optical out, it's the best you're going to come across. I would suggest you look at the new units that are currently going to be available soon as well. I honestly think you'd be best off with a NH900. You can also wait until Sharp tips their hat in the Hi-MD realm, which would probably be later this year, if not early next.

Which r/c can i use on N505???
Christopher replied to ikerCLoN's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Welcome. Unfortunately, not all remotes are compatible with your unit. For best results, I believe you should try the Sony RM-MC11EL or RM-MC12ELK. -
Yes, that seems sufficent..but like I said before you'll most likely need to get it repaired or seek a new unit. A unit around that era [or succeeding ones for that matter] have become quite cheap on eBay and other various e-tailers with the upcoming release of Hi-MD.
-
It also depends on the unit [and the company] you're using. I primarily listen to my Sharp DS8, and I will note that it has a softer draw than a typical Sony unit [without a hd digital amp] - with more definition, of course. I would say that I usually listen to my music around 21/30, which is considered quite soft by most.

If you don't have success here, then I recommend you try eBay Canada.

Germany: Hi-MD portables for pre-order at Directshopper.de

Good info, jade. I need to move this to the Hi-MD forum. News sections are for admin only. Thank you for your contribution, though. -
Official Forums For Certain E-tailers Available
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in Announcements
addendum: support forums for Minidisc Australia now available; original post altered addendum[2]: removed support for Minidisc Australia and Minidisc Access due to speed issues and inactivity. addendum[3]: cleaned up text and added support subforum for Reactive Sounds. -
Easy there tiger. I deleted your "bumps" to this thread. Welcome to the forums, btw - please don't do this again. Sounds like your unit may be done. I've heard of similiar issues and repair was the last option - but I would honestly try operating the unit without battery and just a straight AC connection and see if it'll operate. You may also want to let it rest for a day or so and then try it out.
-
..and I would expect the same train of thought from mostly everyone, but on the T-Board they're addicted to that unit! I remember a time when a R50 [with the buzz in various forums that was being created around the unit and it's true line out] could fetch around $150 on eBay easy! It's a nice unit and all, but I really don't understand why anyone would pay such money.. I don't believe that price still stands, as Hi-MD is on the horizon.
-
Welcome to the forums - please try not to double post in the future. Okay, so you want to transfer recordings from the MD player and recordings done on the computer to the MD player in a faster-than-realtime scenario? If so, then you'll most likely be content going down the Hi-MD route. What's your budget?

hi-MD vs iRiver iHP120 newbie question - HELP!
Christopher replied to Confused in Colorado's topic in Minidisc
Fantastic answers here guys, thanks for the insight. I just wanted to chime in and say welcome to the forums. -
Follow the uninstall OpenMG link, and then go to the SonicStage II link in my last post.

I have a AM-F80 minidisc recorder problem!!! help!!
Christopher replied to waynedear's topic in Software
I've read about this once before at Minidisc Switzerland, the review site. Anyway, the only solution that seemed honest was pressing the reset button on the back of the unit? If that doesn't work, I honestly think you'd have to get it repaired. -
Okay, so we now have Minidisco, Minidisc Access, and Minidisc Australia with Inquiries/Support Forums. Hopefully people will use this nice resource as direct communication with the related e-tailers. General non-NetMD Recording is now General non-NetMD Recording/Pre-NetMD Unit Discussion, and The Past folder is now The Past + Storage Bin. I've also locked and moved Non-Sony MD/Hi-MD Equipment Discussion there.

Welcome to the forums. We don't support obsolete + anger-inducing software here. I want you to uninstall OpenMG, and then install Sonicstage II. Give that a shot and get back to us.

Changed the forum font back. Sorry for the identity crisis, but it really seems like this is the best font for phpbb. In the future, when we're on IPB or vBulletin, the font will be less plain. For now we're with this. I did lighten the shade of the overall "black", however. Changed the mod buttons with newer and most likely more-confusing ones. Only a few will notice this, of course. :rasp: I did however change all of the other icons like profile, pm, email etc etc in the topic view. Press refresh if you're still on the old ones. It's not a huge improvement, but I like 'em better. Behold, statistics. Also, here's the new banner for the front page of minidisc.org, and should be up sometime soon [i hope]. I like that little color scheme there. Maybe I'll make another template [for choice] with such..

Here's a thought: Store it as data, like *.mp3's that aren't necessarily encoded into atrac, just as *.mp3's that are unreadable on the unit but readable on the computer. There's two parts to each disc, what's encoded to play on the unit and data only. If nothing else, you could just hold the *.mp3's and encode at your leisure. Know what I mean? Welcome to the forums, btw.

This feature is used to mark when [date + time] the recording is made. This information would be available upon playing the track, and most likely will have relevance when you export the recording to the computer. So, if you need it or not is subjective to whether or not you want the exact time the recording was made. I can see this being beneficial in a number of recording situations, I suppose..
