I'm not sure how to warn people. Apparently the patch I applied a few days ago didn't go through as intended and they broke in again, yesterday. 12,245 spam e-mails (which had a direct link to a virus) were sent through the bulk mail feature on the forum and iframe'd spyware was put at the bottom of the forum in the global footer (thousands of people hit it). I caught the spamming whilst in progress (it was going to send e-mails to all 37,000+ registrants) and stopped that, and then discovered the spyware and neutralized it. I reapplied a security patch and realized that I didn't do it right the first time. The way they got in is amazing. I'll save you guys from the technical hyperbabble, but they used SQL injection techniques that use the forum's skin as the trojan horse. From there, the Russian hacker(s) had full forum admin and SQL access. It was extremely complex code, and I can say some of the people I showed it to were quite surprised. I hope that future legitimate mass e-mails we send don't get marked as spam because of this action. It ruined some of the credibility of the forum. I told Invision Power Board (the creators of the forum software) that if this were to keep occuring we'd switch to a different software. I'm sure some of you remember how things went with phpbb, and it if becomes that with Invision then we'll just migrate to vBulletin.

Yeah, we've been comprimised. Thanks for the heads up, though.
-
We were comprimised twice by Russian hackers earlier today. They gained full SQL and forum admin access. We've applied some security changes and that method of entry will never occur again. Thankfully there is no visible damage nor nothing important lost (that I could see from my observations), but it was definitely an extremely complex scripting method involving SQL injections via a simple forum post. Sigh.

Thank you for your patience, folks..I can't restore basicx ever again, unfortunately (I've pursued every available option). There will be new skins soon with different color options; why don't we use this topic to brainstorm on what colors we'd like to see with future skins? I know for sure I have a darker skin coming (a favor I owe mr. greenmachine), but what else would you guys like to see?

I would love to play, but I only play CS:S..

Everything was cool at my house (and the car is still mint), but not for others. I have some pictures in my myspace blog.. All other skins are off for two weeks until we get all new ones. And they will be good, much better than what we've had. Thanks for your patience..

Looks like this will be sold out pretty soon; Amazon has the MZ-DH10P for only $184.99USD (a 69% price cut).+++ * - Thanks to Tiesto for the tip.

Confirmed Third Generation Hi-MD Release Date For USA
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in News
Most likely the same time. -
According to Sony, the MZ-RH1 will be in the released in the USA on..+++ Availability in most common retail stores is unknown; it may only surf esoterically at the usual websites but I imagine more prominently in stores and e-tailers that have other recording devices. * Eric = Head honcho of minidisc.org.

Coincidentally, which is also my birthday. It's a fuuuun birthday to have, man.

Rich: Most likely as all high-end units have had such in the past, which can be changed either via unit or destination code in service mode. I'm working on obtaining the service manual asap. Also, how is this a disappointment? The functionality of this unit easily has delivered the best presentation for Minidisc ever, with maybe the exception of a high end deck. You buy this unit and you have it all. It'd be fun to see a cute or hip consumer unit again, but Sony must prioritize and cater to the live recording enthusiast in an attempt to keep the format going. Hopefully higher densities will come soon.

The ATRAC codec will actually get some updates this year related to stereo effect in this sense. I discussed this briefly with a few associates during CES and they are interested in creating exactly what you described; it's odd to see this topic now that I think of it, as the coincidence is exact.

Try the same procedure but without the lossless codec (import as PCM, etc) and see if it works.
-
Welcome. Are all the tracks PCM, or are you trying to upload other codecs?

Help! my library won't play but will transfer....
Christopher replied to Willemwiebe's topic in Software
Reinstall via the directions in the FAQ. Your a bit low on ram as well, you may want to bump that up to see some decent gains in preformance. -
Is ATRAC3(plus) worth testing @128 kbit/s ?
Christopher replied to Serge Smirnoff's topic in Software
I think that many people use LP2 across the world as it is a favored middle ground for those who have NetMD equipment (which there are many tens of millions of), but not so much for those with Hi-MD. It'd be a worthwhile test.. LP2 isn't so bad, I used to use it alot before the days of Hi-MD for some tracks. -
I would look for irregularities with the information present in the song that is not displaying information correctly and compare that to one that is. How many songs are you putting on a disc?

A Beautiful Revelation -- the Epic MZ-RH1 Arrives
Christopher replied to Christopher's topic in News
Enough, cease this useless confrontation. -
Thanks guys, I know I have been under the radar lately but you should see me around more soon (alot of things need fixin'). I really appreciate you taking the time to wish me a happy birthday, and yes, I will probably have a few shots and Guinnesses this eve..not really sure what this day holds, though. Happy Birthday Jadeclaw!! Have a Weinstephaner on me

Marck from MDCenter.nl has done it again: with an excellent variety of pictures to accent the thousands of words in this piece, there's no reason to miss this rare full review of the MZ-RH1. This is the most authorative composition to date of this unit; read this before anything else.

I think it has run its course already, actually. Come on guys, we've been through this a million times and it leads nowhere. Obviously, for strict music listening it is hard to justify MD in comparison to a HDD unit with much higher capacity. MD is best used in this day and age as a live recording device that won't break the bank, or as a novelty format that has alot of cool devices and related accessories. After re-reading the topic by petertkalec, I don't believe his intent was to start a flame war, but rather pronounce his shift. We need not add more coals to the fire, but rather talk about it sensibly (in the future) as Ishiyoshi has stated.

I've been toying with the idea of eventually merging this and atraclife together to make a forum/blog dedicated to the world of Sony. We'll see.

Tornadoes hit about a quarter mile away from my house and my cable internet has been down for quite a few days now. I was able to catch a wifi signal briefly to write this post. I should be back soon..
