Forum member xispe has created independent software that can browse, play and extract music from most ATRAC hard-drive devices called "Grab Your Music" (GYM). This is an excellent initative that has been progressing steadfast and I suggest you spend a moment looking into it and help in making it better. Full information about this software can be found here Download the file here: http://www.atraclife.com/downloads/details.php?file=44 (Microsoft .NET Framework is required)

GYM | Network Walkman BROWSER-PLAYER-EXTRACTOR

I am so sorry for not promoting this on the news until this point. I shall do so very soon. -
We have quite a few Sony people reading the forums each week -- Sony Thailand, Japan, Europe, Australia, USA, etc.

Sorry about downtime as of late -- it shouldn't occur any further and we will be migrating DNS servers soon so things should enter an extremely stable state. We had actually been piggybacking our DNS on a friend's server this entire time and not on the same box as minidisc.org. Invision v2.1 will be arriving here in about 2 weeks.

have i lost my recordings forever?

Upon reflection, it would be impossible for one to document all of the niggles that come with the Minidisc format. -
Hmm. Do you have the option to uninstall Service Pack 2 in Add/Remove Programs? You could always download the manual installion for Service Pack 2 (or the automated), put it on a disc and install it again. Sounds like something is definitely wrong with Windows.

I agree. Hi-MD as an archival medium in its orginal form is a diseased carrier, it is always best to employ it as strictly a go-between and definitely convert whatever you record to a safer destination free from the mystical world of DRM and that madness. I reiterate this point because alot of people don't really understand this aspect of Hi-MD. -
Almost all of my tracks are in 256kbps ATRAC3plus or 320kbps MP3. Nothing less. I always get amused when people blast low bitrates, but I remember when such quality was acceptable and for many that will be the zenith of their knowledge for listening quality. It's all subjective -- if you're content, then so be it.

I wonder what's causing the massive exodus. Europe has always been a very strong market for Hi-MD, but Sony's erraticism has been very apparent as of late and is probably causing further market unrest. The future is not clear anymore, although..

Employ Sonicstage 3.3 instead, and yes, that method of action should be fine. I don't have this setup, but as you grow used to it, tell us what you think?

Welcome. Simple Burner 2 is in our Downloads section, if a Google search hasn't provided that for you already.

Sounds like something out of a sci-fi thriller, but instead it's our absurd reality. -
Good to see it's helping someone out already. You can record standard MD's with second generation Hi-MD, but you'll just have to do it via Sonicstage.

I've been really busy, but we reached 23,000. I hope this isn't becoming redundant yet. -
Wise words.

Thumbs up to this, one of the best FAQ's I've seen on the matter..also, the minidiscforum.de people are very friendly, even to those who try to post there under machine translations.

Happy birthday mrsoul, ya old head. Seriously -- congrats! -- what've you got planned today?

I used to have a MZ-S1, but I sold it to a co-worker and he uses it lightly. It was a dedicated NetMD transfer machine for me, and I would occasionally wield it in situations that warranted a "heavy duty" music player. I never liked how the door opened to insert the disc, seemed like something that could eventually break if repeated.

Make sure your password doesn't have any symbols in it.

Despite my opposition to very low bitrates, it is hard to ignore the merits of employing such to obtain long battery life -- I can think of a myriad of situations where that would be keen. The 600D is a good start. You should really get into live recording -- it changes your life. (I'm just starting down that path myself)

'MDCF News' has been renamed 'Minidisc.org News' as we will soon be carrying a script on the front site of minidisc.org that will import RSS topics from the news forum there, replacing the way we posted news in the past. This will greatly bring the portal and forums together in a blissful union to bring the community even closer. This will also helpfully usher more individuals into the forum.

Soon.

You'll be fine, go ahead and use it.

Alright kids, let's see what you've got now. I have a bigger and faster host helping me this time, no one is going to stop me now.
