Check the write-protect tab as well...
-
Try inspecting/cleaning the battery contacts on the battery and the unit itself.
-
Is the charger the correct voltage? also, the Solio looks awesome, been meaning to get one.
-
I can confirm that the DH10P is a hindered Mp3 player. The RH1 sounds much, much better.

Sorry to hear SonicStage is being so picky... As a last resort you can use dBpoweramp music converter (freeware) to convert the mp3 files to WAV, then import the WAV files into SonicStage and transfer. Should work with no problems that way. It's a bit of a runaround but when all else fails this is the method I use to get music on MD. dBpoweramp can be found here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

To prevent your computer from rebooting itself: In control panel, double click "System"... Under the advanced tab click on the settings button beside "Startup and Recovery".. Now under "System Failure" uncheck "Automatically Restart". This will help further diagnose the problem, as the system won't reboot if something happens. Maybe we'll see an error message.

So it's only specific mp3 files? A few things: Check in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages\ (and its subfolders) and see if those particular mp3 files are in there in .oma format. If so, delete them as these are the Atrac versions that aren't transferring. If they still won't go, try right-clicking on a file in "My Library" that won't transfer, click "Convert Format" and choose whatever bitrate you prefer (if using NetMD be sure to use either LP2 132kbps Atrac3, or LP4 64kbps Atrac3, as the Atrac3plus formats will not transfer to anything but Hi-MD units). Now change your transfer settings to "as-is" and try your transfer again. Alternately, I know SonicStage used to be fussy about id3 tags. You could try re-doing the tags in whatever other media player you use, save the updated tags and try re-importing to SonicStage and see if they transfer again. Let us know...

The latest one (4.3) provides Vista support, but has caused a few problems similar to what you're experiencing with some users. Try a complete uninstall (clearing all traces of the program from program folders, and from registry as well if you are comfortable) and install 4.2 from here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=17769
-
If you are using SonicStage 4.3, try uninstalling and reinstalling an earlier version (unless you are on Vista).
-
4.3 is the only one that works with Vista AFAIK...

The MZ-M10, M100, and RH1 (M200) will all upload to Mac. If you're on a PC, any Hi-MD recorder with Mic-input will suffice. Have a gander at the browser here: http://www.minidisc.org/himd_table.html (the portables are listed under the decks).
-
The MZ-RH1 will upload those old recordings, but no other unit will.
-
Personally I prefer the RH1's sound. I've listened to the same disc on both the RH10 and RH1 and the RH1 seems to have a richer, fuller sound. The RH10 in comparison has a warm sound that isn't quite as sharp as the RH1. But as stated, it's subjective. If you can try one out before purchasing you're better off. Some people prefer the warmer sounding playback versus the richer sound.

As a test I took the original test WAV file and used GoldWave to perform a phase inversion on it. I then mixed that with the WAV file created from the AAL file and the result was silence. So yeah it's identical, as it should be considering it's lossless. It also kinda sucks as a lossless format, FLAC compressed the same file a good bit better. Bear in mind that AAL isn't transferred to Hi-MD as AAL, but rather as whatever you have specified in the Advanced section of Transfer Settings in Sonicstage. Below is a frequency analysis of the original WAV vs the AAL WAV: AAL is shown in red WAV is shown in green As you can see, the audio is identical (the green is completely in line, and underneath the red)
-
Keep in mind that the inclusion/removal of id tags (which might happen when converting to AAL) can change the MD5 checksums of WAV files... While not necessarily changing anything about the audio data itself. EDIT: I'll see if I can help out with some frequency analysis figures from Soundforge

No problem, we're here to help! Welcome to the forums BTW/

Hi-MD recorders that can upload to Mac are: MZ-M10 - http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-M10+RH910.html MZ-M100 - http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-M100+RH10.html MZ-RH1 - http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-RH1.html The MZ-M10 and M100 are essentially the same as the RH910 and your RH10, they just added the Mac upload functionality and they come bundled with microphones I believe.

The mp3 playback on the RH1/M200 doesn't have the "low pass filter" type bug that the previous mp3-compatible Hi-MD models did.

This is a known problem with the RH10 (and maybe others): If you have one long track and place track marks around a small section inside the track, delete the trackmarked section, and then combine... You will end up with a trashed disc saying "Cannot Record or Play". There is also the possibility that any extensive editing on the unit may cause this error. This was mentioned some time ago, and I was able to reproduce the problem on my RH10 as well. Not a very friendly bug, as it trashes your entire disc. One possible fix that was mentioned is to press "Stop" after each consecutive edit (trackmarks [stop], delete [stop], combine [stop], etc) allowing the unit to write the system file after each edit. Supposedly this is a workaround that avoids the "Cannot Record or Play", although I haven't tried it myself. The easiest way is to upload the entire recording untouched and do your editing on the PC. -- Also, the RH10 cannot upload files to a Mac. However you can use the newest Mac software (available in the downloads section here in the forums) to transfer Mp3 and WAV files to your RH10.

The only difference AFAIK is the inclusion of a bundled microphone (and the name of course). Fully compatible with SonicStage.

The MZ-G755 isn't a NetMD.. .. Do the discs play on the G755 okay? If they play fine on the portable I'd venture a guess that something is wrong with the car unit. You might try cleaning the lens and see if that helps, or use 74min MDs if you're using 80min ones.

if you record with group function on, each file in the group gets numberred as 001-date and time.oma, 002-date and time.oma, etc. per group. (unless you are using an older version of the software, in which case the tracks will be titled as the date & time of import without the 001, 002 prefix. Older versions of SonicStage get confused with ordering when multiple small files are imported in the same minute (it appends (2), (3), etc. to the end... without a space, so these files show up before the actual first file) in other words you'll either get a few tracks that start with 001 if you have multiple groups (with newer SonicStage). Or files with (2), (3), etc. added... that show up before the first one imported that minute (with older). With newer versions: change the view in SonicStage to "all tracks", then go under Options/My Library/List, place a checkmark in "File Path" under the track window. Now in the My Library View, simply click on the "File Path" column header to sort files by the file path/name (rather than the jumbled track names). Sorry this came out all confusing.

I can confirm that the RM-MC11EL works with the RH10. I would assume the RM-MC35ELK works, since the RM-MC11EL & RM-MC38EL do. The RM-MC40ELK is very nice though...

How to use SonicStage to back up your recordings
raintheory replied to greenmachine's topic in Software
Yes, you want at least version 3.4 It would be wise to uninstall it before upgrading.
