  1. Hi there, In order to move mp3s from Mac>Hi-MD you will need the latest version of the Hi-MD music transfer software (version 2): http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16424 320kbps Mp3 should be just fine. Let us know if you get it working!
  2. The only ones I see on there now are $9.99 + $15.00 for shipping, plus they would ship from China (I'm in the states)... I got the unit for $45, and it came in near mint condition with all of the accessories and 20 Blank NIEGE discs.. Wasn't a bad deal at all, but I can't bring myself to pay $25 for the remote now. heh The RM-MC38EL actually works great, the only thing that throws me off with it is that the group buttons act as repeat/enter. The RM-MC11EL actually doesn't even have any group buttons, but I guess I'm used to using the RM-MC38EL with my RH1 now because I keep trying to jump groups and end up repeating stuff...
  3. Yeah there are a few on eBay, but they are priced at more than half of what I paid for the E900 to begin with.. I'll keep a look out there, I have been using the RM-MC38EL that originally came with my NH900 in the meantime. I would still like to get ahold of one of these though... Thanks!
  4. Right, I'll just concur here... You only need the SonicStage software if you are interested in transferring music from your PC to MiniDisc.
  5. I usually just click "View New Posts" in the upper right corner...
  6. I think he just meant there isnt an option on the unit itself... All of the menu options on the remote should be there regardless.
  7. If you are reusing the same disc it is possible that the disc may be the culprit. You may want to test some other things, different recording modes, different discs, doing a test recording via line-in instead of mic-in... etc. I doubt it would be a battery issue. Usually most battery issues result in a completely lost recording because the battery ends up with not enough juice to write the TOC.
  8. Yes, definitely stop using the portable or it will most likely randomly erase more of your discs. You can probably find a replacement portable for fairly cheap on eBay. If you have lost important recordings PM me, I may be able to help you retrieve them. What Deck do you have?
  9. How often to people post threads about things working perfectly versus when there's a problem anyway?
  10. I'll tell ya first-hand that its a wonderful machine, got the MDS-E10 PRO myself.
  11. I had a few weird problems with my RH10 buttons periodically (volume would activate search). I'm not sure how it would be fixed, but the service manual should be in the downloads section here if you want to open the unit up and have a peek inside. PS - If you decide to open it up and look around, could you take some pics?
  12. , something entirely different
  13. Be extra sure that the NH600 isn't the NH600D which as mentioned earlier has no actual physical inputs (except USB) and is a downloader only unit. But I do agree that the mic-in is definitely worth the extra cash.
  14. Yep, Version 2.0 - http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16424 Try the new version and see if it works. EDIT: Forgot to mention that the new software should allow you to upload Hi-SP and Hi-LP as well (not just PCM). And it should also let you transfer Mp3 files to your recorder.
  15. The supplied battery is meant to be replaceable. It's just as easy as replacing any standard battery, it is not built into the recorder in any way (no need to disassemble the unit or anything like that). There is no built-in mic, you will need to purchase an external one. The member greenmachine here in the forums makes great affordable mics - http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=14388
  16. What version of the software are you using?
  17. Yeah that might be the problem. SonicStage is now at version 4.0 and a lot of issues/bugs have been fixed. Version 4.0 is a web installer only, although there is an offline installer for version 3.4 in the downloads secion here (along with an updated simpleburner, as A440 mentioned). Follow the instructions in this thread to completely uninstall the old version and install version 3.4 - http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071
  18. Wonderful idea! I can help out in my spare time if you'd like, let me know.
  19. The RM-MC40ELK has a larger display and a jog wheel. The only downside is that it doesn't have the "group +/-" function... So you have to use the jog wheel to scroll through instead of just jumping to the next/previous group. Aside from that, it has all of the functionality and is fully compatible with the RH1.
  20. The supplied remote (RM-MC38EL) doesn't show the levels. However, the RM-MC40ELK remote does in fact show the levels (originally supplied with the NH1). You should be able to find either a new or used one on eBay for a decent price.
  21. If you plan to use the unit for live recording, you will most likely want a Hi-MD recorder. Hi-MD will not only record in uncompressed PCM, but will also allow you to upload your recordings digitally to PC faster than realtime via USB. NetMD and older units can only record at the highest quality of SP (292kbps), and there is no way to upload to PC with those older units. The NH600 is a Hi-MD unit with only a line-in (no mic-in), but be wary of the USA model NH600D which has no inputs and is a downloader only unit. You might want to look into either the NH700 or NHF800. You should be able to find these for fairly cheap (definitely under $150 USD) and they are almost identical, the only difference is that the NHF800 comes with a radio remote. Here is some basic info on the units. NH700 - http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH700.html NHF800 - http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NHF800.html EDIT: Guess you beat me to it A440
  22. I mainly have legacy gear as backup gear... Now that I have the RH1 and the ability to upload legacy recordings, I have been tempted to use the legacy gear to record more often. My main reasons for wanting to do this are: 1 - If you accidentally lose audio data from legacy discs, most of the time it can be retrieved using TOC cloning, Hi-MD is encrypted so TOC cloning (at least in the conventional sense) won't work... Trust me, I modified my NH900 to enable cloning but to no avail. 2 - Legacy gear can be obtained for fairly cheap these days, I would feel more comfortable having a legacy recorder out and about than I would carrying my RH1 everywhere I want to record... For fear that it would be damaged. One exception would be if I wanted to record in PCM./ I also have a legacy player-only unit that I keep in my car, and a few good friends that only have legacy gear that I am always swapping discs with. So, in my opinion... Legacy MD still has some good points, and for the current price alone (for used gear) that can't be argued too much. EDIT: We also have a legacy pro deck (MDS-E10) in our home studio that we have used extensively (still do). A Hi-MD pro deck would be very nice, but for now there is no such animal.
