  1. It all depends on what unit you have, see here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070
  2. Okay so I stole this from another forum The idea is this: Everyone adds three words per post to the story, no double posting. Can be silly or ridiculous/nonsese ... I'll start. --- There once was
  3. The original machine (desktop) that I installed VMWare and SonicStage on is just Ubuntu, and works fine. Though for my laptop I have to keep a small windows partition alongside Ubuntu anyway to run my EMU 1616m audio interface, S-Video, SD card reader, and to write data to my LaCie 500gig firewire drive (ubuntu will only pick it up as read-only because it is formatted as HFS+). Also for my music programs, Ubuntu is great for almost anything except music production...
  4. I modified my NH900 awhile back to enable TOC cloning, but it didn't work out... Got the TOC's to clone just fine, but the discs would always show an error and reformat themselves. My guess is that there are encryption keys in the recorded data itself as well as the TOC. Therefore a TOC from another disc wouldnt match the keys in the data and would cause errors and reformat the disc. Just my guess though, after trying it out myself.

It has a mic-in, so it will work great for live shows. Plus it's Hi-MD and will upload Hi-MD recordings to PC just fine.
  6. Audacity is in the downloads section here in the forums. It is an open source audio editing program that works great for this, it's pretty straightforward.
  7. Yeah I forgot to mention that I tweaked that on my setup.
  8. Only Hi-MD units will actually upload (faster than realtime, digital copy) to PC. You can run a line from any MD recorder to your PC soundcard and record in realtime (analog).
  9. The only time I prefer the stock remote to the RM-MC40ELK with the RH1 is when I am driving and want to be able to switch groups easily. The MC40ELK is great for searching for songs with it's jog dial, but kind of a pain if you just want to jump 2 groups ahead... (unless I'm missing something obvious)
  10. I used Automatix to install all of that good stuff... http://www.getautomatix.com/ EDIT: Be sure if you use Automatix, don't click the update notification thingy if it appears while Automatix is running.
  11. If updates run and update the kernel, it should add an entry to the grub menu so you can revert to the older kernel if there are problems. Probably best to wait until 2.6.15-27-xx to try to update it though...
  12. Open a terminal window and input: uname -r I know some people have reported sound issues with 2.6.15-26-xx
  13. Yes, simply copying an OMA file and putting it on a seperate computer will give you license info errors and the file will be unplayable.
  14. Depends... are you secretly recording? I guess you could always make it more exciting and stealthily record even when theres no need to be stealthy.
  15. What were the nature of the Ubuntu problems?
  16. Prerecorded MDs will play on just about any MiniDisc player/recorder. Although if you want to upload them to PC, you need the RH1
  17. Yep, I can confirm this.
  18. Just to add, also can't upload MD-DATA discs made with a Multi-Track MiniDisc recorder.
  19. I think even the online installer actually downloads some executables which it stores in your "temp" folders... I believe this is how the original off-line installer for 3.4 was made.
  20. Are you guys interested in the case or the disc? or both? The actual case is almost identical to the old MD-DATA Discs...
  21. How would one go about checking who the 100,000th post was from anyway?
