  1. The small end of the USB cable is a standard "5-Pin Mini B" plug. Common for use on digital cameras and other devices. Plug the small end into your Hi-MD and the standard USB into your PC. The device should show up in SonicStage and allow you to transfer with ease.
  2. For starters, what MiniDisc unit (model) are you using?
  3. Gapless has been available since at least SonicStage v3.4 See here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?s=&am...ost&p=86595
  4. Nice find! 4.2 seems to start up quicker, and seems a bit more responsive...
  5. WMA should work. OGG won't be recognized by SonicStage, regardless of version. Also SonicStage CP (4.0) is basically the same as 3.4, in other words there aren't any features in 3.4 that aren't in 4.0. I wouldn't try downgrading to 3.4 now that you have 4.0 installed, theres really no reason to. Check your ID3 tags on the mp3s to see if anything looks funny. SonicStage has been known to have problems with certain ID3 tags.
  6. Service mode can be very sensitive. It is highly possible that any small change therein may have messed with your unit. Perhaps someone that owns this unit will list the default values for service mode?
  7. TOC Cloning. Here are some threads: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...;hl=toc+cloning http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...;hl=toc+cloning http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...;hl=toc+cloning If you want more specific info/help with this PM me. TOC Cloning has become somewhat of a specialty of mine. I'll be glad to help you out as much as I can. In the meantime don't try to record anything on the disc or you risk overwriting the audio data.
  8. OpenMG is pretty outdated. You'd be best to update to SonicStage. Most likely this will sort out any software-related problems you are having. http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586 On a side-note... Do your mic/line-in recordings come out okay?
  9. You may want to check this thread out: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=17241 I beleive he still has the MDS-JE470 available.
  10. The only way to record in LP2 (i.e. 132kbps ATRAC3) on a Hi-MD formatted disc is through SonicStage. Recording on the unit itself, you will only be able to use LP2 with a MiniDisc in standard formatting (not Hi-MD). I agree with A440 for the most part... Before Hi-MD I had no problem with recording in LP2. The trade-off between quality and quantity worked out great for me. Now when I am recording with a Hi-MD unit, I will not go under Hi-SP. I do still use LP2 occasionally though, for example when I am making discs for friends with older gear. But I can definitely hear a difference between LP2 and Hi-SP, and I would much rather have the higher quality.
  11. My MDS-E10 Pro Deck had an issue where none of the buttons on the front worked (including eject). I opened the unit and re-seated the ribbon cable that connects the front cover to the internal workings and its been working fine ever since.
  12. Are you recording via mic/line-in or transferring tracks from PC?
  13. You may want to direct your question to our sister-forum ATRACLife - http://www.atraclife.com/forums/
  14. I owned the JE470 and found it perfect for home/casual use. I eventually sold it off because at the time I had a total of 3 decks and wasn't using it too much. Basically any of the decks that are MDLP compatible would work fine for you. Unfortunately I'm unsure if they are still manufacturing any of these, so you may need to find a used one. I got my JE470 originally off of eBay for less than $80 USD.
  15. Any way you could post pics of the MZ-1 accessories? In particular the carrying case?
  16. There are plenty of decks and bookshelf systems: http://www.minidisc.org/equipment_browser.html If you're looking for something Hi-MD you may have trouble, but for the standard MD there are quite a few. I've owned 3 myself (2 pro decks and 1 home deck). I for one and familiar with reel to reel as well.
  17. Arre you using the RH1 or RH10? (or RH910 for that matter)
  18. Alternately you can go deeper to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\EMD\HomeURL\0 And Set: MenuTitle - MiniDisc &Community Forums Title - MiniDisc Community Forums Url - http://forums.minidisc.org/ Now nstead of the connect store you have the forums! Edit: If you get script errors that kick you off the forums and to a Connect error page, go here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\EMD\ And delete the key "ErrorURL"
  19. What other music managers/players do you have installed?
  20. Here is a good FAQ on MDLP: http://www.minidisc.org/mdlpfaq.html There really is a wealth of info from the main page here at http://www.minidisc.org Basically you're unit will play Standard SP & MONO formats. MDLP units include the addition of LP2 & LP4 (160min & 320min respectively) which provide longer recording time at reduced quality. In regards to what portable to look into... Do you plan to mainly use it for playback? Or do you plan to do any actual recording via microphone or line-in?
  21. The M200 is the RH1 w/bundled Mic. M100 is the same as RH10 with added Mac-compatibility (and bundled mic IIRC).
  22. This truly is a great find IMO. I for one enjoy the older units (the JE320 is pre-MDLP if I recall correctly) just as much as some of the newer ones. I suppose it helps that I have plenty of pre-MDLP recordings as it is that will actually playback on these units. The unit will work great for recording satellite radio, the only downfall would be the recording time (usually 80min for SP Stereo, 160min for MONO). However any portable you pick up will have no problem playing back the discs you record with it. eBay is probably the best place to keep an eye out for cheap second-hand MD units. Though with anything on eBay there is always a risk (personally I have purchased quite a bit of MD related things on eBay and never been burned). You may even be able to find some prerecorded albums on ebay for your unit!
  23. Great find anodes!!! Recently I traded 6 of my albums for an MZ-R700 (in great condition) and about 35 MiniDiscs...
  24. Good deal! I would have jumped on that had I seen it sooner... EDIT: If for any reason the current situation doesn't work out I am very interested in this as well. Contact me via PM...
  25. I believe the only Hi-MD models with this feature are: MZ-NH1 & MZ-RH1. A couple of the Legacy recorders have this feature as well, but keep in mind that unlike the Hi-MD units, you will not be able to upload to PC with these units: MZ-N1, MZ-R910, MZ-R909. The MZ-RH1 might be your best investment, not only because of the date/time stamp. But also because you will be able to digitally upload your older recordings to PC.
