    Happy New Year

    From Bob in the Caribbean
  5. could be a possibility that the mechanism that moves the head may be sticking slightly, does pressing fast forward or rewind have any impact on what is being played? Do you have another unit you can play the disc on to see if it is disc or unit? Good luck Bob
  6. First thing, get a newer copy of SS, go to at least 3.4, should help you lots Bob
  7. Listening to Manfred Mann's Earth Band Odds and Sods, Mistakes and Outtakes, a four disc collection of bits and pieces, from the 70's to present, not a bad not in the bunch Bob
  8. Hello to a coupe of neat finds at the dump today, I go with stuff, and come back with more, first, I say an old interesting leather case, looked closely, an old pair of binoculars, cleaned the up a bit, on the end, says made in occupied Japan, company, Magna 7X50, no focus adjustment, just eye correcttion, very clear, next, a little farther down, a Hanimex Amphibian 35MM underwater camera, put batteries in it, wants to wind, will put some film in it tomorrow, see what happens. Amazing what people throw out. Bob
  9. Frustrating, ain't it, got to wonder!! Good luck next time, next company Bob

  11. A little video showing recovery of Little Cayman, and a couple of resorts, enjoy Bob
  12. No need to shut up, you have joined an elite group, and are loving it. Hopefully your SO sees the error of your ways and converts, but some take longer Have fun, and Happy New Year Bob
  13. I believe the problem to be indiscriminate use of compression, to make the soft sounds louder, and the loud sounds softer. in cheapo equipment it adds a bit of punch, but on good equipment it shites the sound too much. I too have noticed it on a lot of the DVD's i play, some have great range and listeneable volume, others, you have to jack the volume up, and still all you hear is jumble, frustrating to say the least. Bob
  14. Too right, they certainly do sound good, Bob

    Which Hi-MD

If you can get them at those prices, go for it, if I were me, I would go after the 700, it's only a matter of time before the recording bug gets into your system. Good luck, Bob
  16. Listening to Buena Vista Social Club Live at Carnegie, Chan Chan still sends shivers down my back, wonder if a DVD of that show will be coming, it would be a good one Bob
  17. Listening to Aguirre by Popol Vuh, soundtrack of sorts to Aguirre Wrath of God, a Herzog film from the 70's, saw it abut 30 y3ars ago, wouldn't mind finding it again. Bob
  18. One of my favorites, this and Tomita's version got me into classical, I have several versions on vinyl back in Canada, one by a Japanese gentleman transcribed for guitar is quite good. Bob
  19. Nice pictures, glad you like them, hope they bring you much joy Take care, Bob
  20. Sorry to hear that, but that's on reason I never order anything in December, too many companies shut or slow down, mail and delivery systems grind to a halt. It is unforgivable that they don't answer you though, hopefully you get your stuff soon. Bob
  21. Personally I like the prerecorded cases the best, but I use a variety of storage, at work most are in flip case like the Case Logic binders. At home I just have them stacked on a wall rack, some labeled, some not, I like surprises. Bob
  22. Listening to an oldy but goody, Spirit's The Family that Play's Together, good memories, and just read my son's posting on Facebook about a video of Laurie Anderson's " O Superman", and telling a poster that thought it was weird, and saying when he grew up in that house that this type of music was all that played, he thought it was "normal" music. then he describes my record collection to her, felt all warm and fuzzy inside! Bob
  23. goodbye to Eartha Kitt, just read she died today. Bye catwoman, great voice and presence, will be missed Bob
  24. Reading the New Patricia Cornwell book "Book of the Dead", and in one part Scarpetta's niece Lucy is doing some surveillance, and is using a "wireless minidisc recorder hidden in an ipod" to do some information gathering. I wish I had one of those, anyone know who makes it??!! Bob
