QUOTE(David B @ Mar 24 2008, 12:08 PM) I wish I had found this board sooner! My sister is a flautist and wants to record her concerts and practise sessions so she can listen to herself and improve. She is often accompanied by a piano and the environments can range from a bedroom to a church. I bought her a Sony ECM-MS907 mic on recommendation and have used it with a (borrowed) Net MD recorder (not sure of the model, but it had a Mic input) with good results. So I bought her a MZ-NH600 for Christmas. Unfortunately I was under the impression that the battery in the MS907 was for a pre-amp (since reading this board I now know it's not!) so the NH600 won't do - I need something with a Mic input rather than just a line in. I don't want to go down the route of battery boxes and pre-amps, partly due to the expense and partly due to the complexity. She will be getting her friends to use this at concerts, and using it herself at home - she doesn't want lots of bits of kit. So what MD recorder would you recommend? There are several available that have the Mic input, the NH700 being one of them. I want to keep the cost down (for now), would there be any advantages for her in going for the higher end models (NH900, NH1)? I want to stick with Hi-MD as it was a faff getting stuff off the Net MD. I am also considering non-MD formats, is there anything that records to MP3 (probably need 160kbps) or WAV that would do the same job as well or as simply? Many thanks for any advice, I'm afraid I'm new to this! David The NH700 will do you just fine, the higher end models dirr in some features such as digital output stages etc, but you could not tell the difference recording wise. The 700 will be limited to it's own recordings to be digitally uploaded, the RH1 would do all your discs. Look further in the forum for guitarfixrs impressions of the new Tascam unit. Take care and welcome Bob

As well, lowvolta and B.I.L.B., have a great one, best to you both Bob

If you had an RH1 or M200, you would be able to digitally upload and you could record at PCM which would be indistinguisheable from source, you could also try the various flavors of Atrac, which are quite nice. Bob

It's a start here on the forums, as well you can try ebay etc. Keep checking back here, people unload various bits time to time. Good luck, Bob

Happy birthday to nismo96, hope alls well Bob

If you want to use the R50, real time through your soundcard is your only option, whether it's using the edirol, or patch cords. Best way is the RH1 Bob

love it, but what's a D-Snap??? Bob

Hey TC, don't be too quick to totally condemn the DH10, my 600 did much the same, ended up being poor connection on the headphone jack, and dirty remote terminals, try swabbing the remote connections, and clean the headphone and see what happens. At 80 it won't be hi-fi, but it should be listenable Good luck, Bob

Error report - An error occurred while transferring
bobt replied to MusicBringer's topic in Software
what works for me sometimes is to burn a cd of the offending cuts, then use simpleburner to put them onto the MD, some VBR MP3's don't transfer for some reason, Good luck, Bob -
nice, very nice, Bob

"MD which glow in dark(3pc's " Those would be fun, always nice to get a surprise or two when you make a purchase, TTFN Bob

I had similar problems, it ended up being a memory card not seated fully, give that a try before condemning it. Bob

The RH10 is the lost big brother,, the OLED looks neat, but may be prone to failure, and the second generation has crippled MP3 playback. The first generation play back MP3's fine, but they are converted, second and third generation allow direct MP3 playback if that's important. Personally I think the 700 or 800 will do all you need to do until you decide you need the RH1 or M200. JMHO Bob

The new versions of SS are actually quite nice to work with (3.4 and up), as to the volume limit, it's probably not a noticeable limit, especially with a good set of headphones, but there are ways around it. Good luck, Bob

Good luck in your acquisition, it's nice when deserving people get these nice surprises. Hope the read error is an easy fix. Let us know how it works out Bob

Happy Birthday to lyleinedmonton just because he's from my home town, and also to andicillo. Hope you have a great one Bob

looks like a neet site, too bad they don't ship outside Australis, oh well, looks like you got a great deal, happy MD'ing, Bob

For budget try an NH700 or 800, like raintheory says you have the benefit of digital uploads, as well as the ability to use the 1 gig discs as well as the regular discs. Bob

Hi There, Your recording problem could be the ribbon cable to the recording head starting to fail, don't use the machine any more, it could randomly start erasing discs. You could try a blank disc and see what happens, but the 707 is an old unit. HTH Bob

Ho Zoe, Sound is one thing that is subjective, and objective, the best thing is to try for yourself at differnt bitrates and see what you like best. If you only have SP, your options are rather limited, but you do have some leeway, experiment a bit, and have fun, Bob

slightly cool for what we usually are, low 70's F, usually this time of the year is mid to high 70's. can't complain though as yesterday in Edmonton it was minus 20 C, and I was in it last year this time. Bob

Just got an e-mail from Minidisc Canada, thought I'de share. Not enough Karma to put it in the News category, so here goes: "We don't send out many emails, but here is one worth reading! Within the next month or so, we will be changing our web name from www.minidisc-canada.com to another....it's top secret, so we can't tell you yet! You will still be able to find the site from the old address until the end of time, so no need to worry about updating your favorites, you'll just be redirected. Now the even bigger news..... Over the next few months we will be introducing; Canon, Garmin, Magellan, Audio Technica and many more big names! If you see it in one of those big box stores and you don't see it on our site, email us and we'll get it for you.....and at a better price! If you see an item on our site, and the price is higher than our competition, email us and we'll do our best to beat their price.....and we'll actually give you service and know what we're talking about. We now have a pick up location in Montreal too, but please call first. Not on the site yet, we have Canon cameras and Garmin GPS systems at great prices, so if you're ready to buy one now, send us the model and we'll quote you a price. Your friends at MDC" May explain some of the delays in shipping etc. over the last while, but I do seem to remember them changing their name a couple of years ago, but still keeping the minidisc canada link on, hopefully they still keep minidisc, Bob
