  1. I doubt this is any worry as the rh10 came with a one-line remote and most of us plugged in our three-liner without a problem. Just gonna have to add the stock remote to the box with the other remotes that came with hi-md devices.
  2. It has one of those pop-up buttons to open the lid. From the location of the arrow the lid will open on the left-side front. Ooh, look at the size of that recording button... Now what about a remote?
  3. damn...right on, Indeego. It looks slim and sleek. The view screen is not on the face as I expected it to be, interesting. The viewscreen on a side-panel can be beneficial for those who keep the unit in a shirt pocket while recording.
  4. Sounds like you are using SS 3.0 or 3.2. Upgrade to 3.4 as there are no upload restrictions. [edit] look toward the top of the page for the link "downloads" and follow that to get 3.4.
  5. There aren't any pictures on the Japanese forums...just speculation like here. Perhaps you may want to see what information the "premium members club" can provide.
  6. yep, 44,800 from online shopping and 50,000~53,000 if you purchase at a major department store.
  7. Yep, here in Japan. Here is a little bit of info about it from Wikipedia: "Japanese bandplan The FM band in Japan is 76-90MHz. The narrowness of the Japanese band (14 MHz compared to slightly more than 20 MHz for the CCIR band) limits the number of FM stations that can be accommodated on the dial with the result that many commercial radio stations are forced to use AM." Stopped by Yodobashi Camera this afternoon and for a second time inserted a hi-md disc into the unit, which doesn't play hi-md. The Linear PCM symbol is part of the advertising because Sonicstage 3.3 is installed on the hard-disc. This allows for the transfer of music to the portable devices. Yes, you can plug your hi-md into the unit via usb and upload or download music but the onboard md deck is mdlp only.
  8. This unit and the Sony Anymusic unit released in January only have an FM dial that goes from 76~90, but if your three favorite stations are in the 88 to 89 range then no problem there. To clarify something implied in the first post, the Sony unit does not play hi-md. The advertising of it does have the "Linear PCM" logo but that has to do with storing on the hard-disc and playing...it does not mean that the md player is hi-md.
  9. According to an episode of Scooby Doo, you can read kanji if you hold it up to a mirror and read the reflection. If your mirror is not functioning correctly then follow this thread for the English language manual... asdfjkl; enter via "manuals/specs/warranty" then "operating instructions". If your mirror is still under warranty, I'd take it in for a service check.
  10. You want a recorder, not just a player. Currently there are two types of recording formats available on recorders; netmd and hi-md. If you want to go with netmd the only Sony unit that can be bought new is the mz-n920. It has both mic and line-in, can record, using these inputs, in SP292, LP2 132, and LP4 64 or 68 I can't remember which. With the netmd function, you can record music from the computer to your minidisc faster than real-time using either sonicstage or realplayer. With this recorder if you want to transfer the music from your minidisc to the computer you will have to go out of the headphone socket into your computer sound-card and use a program to capture the audio. There is also a Sharp model recorder, the md-dr77, which will record via line and mic into SP, LP2, and LP4. This model doesn't have netmd functions but there is the md-dr80 which does. The difference between the two is the 80 has netmd but no unit-display; you have to use the remote to see your functions when you are doing field recordings. The hi-md models that have both mic and line-in are the 2nd generation* of hi-md models mz-rh10 and mz-rh910. They record in PCM 1411, hi-sp 256, and hi-lp 64 or 68 can't remember which is which. This can also function as a netmd style, transfering from computer to minidisc by using Sonicstage; realplayer does not support hi-md. The advantage that hi-md has is you can upload your recordings to the computer and at speeds faster than real-time. *There are also 1st generation hi-md models that have both mic and line-in but I'm not familiar with that generation so someone will add the info. A few places to look at to see the recorders is audiocubes.com and minidisco.com.
  11. lol, one that sounds like a 45rpm record being played at 33rpm...
  12. A-Train, was it one of those moments that switched to slow motion as you watched it get out of your hands and into harms way?
  13. here is the product number for the part you are after... AD-D1AC
  14. This format already exists, called SD cards.
  15. You don't need to cut or solder anything. The packaged Sharp 'phones include a 3-to-4 pole converter and 4-to-3 poles can be purchased also. They are out there... Check with audiocubes, first...
  16. Minidisc wasn't designed to compete with the portable hdd and flashplayers; it was designed as a replacement for the cassette. Yes, they could have marketed it better outside of Japan but would that have stopped iriver and Apple from going ahead with r&d on a hdd player? Threads that degenerate into ruing the demise of md have become as stale as the classic thread "which sounds better, i-pod or md".
  17. I recommend using kakaku.com for comparing prices online for Japanese retailers. I've already checked and their search doesn't have any soundpro products show up but if you check out Yodobashi.com, biccamera.com, ishimaru.co.jp among others you will find an assortment of mics to select from. Then enter the product number into kakaku to find the least expensive product + shipping within Japan.
  18. My school uses Japn. version of Windows 2000, where I'm not signed in as administrator, and I can hook up my rh10 to it and extract files I transfered from my Eng. WinXP. I wish my school's computers had XP, then I could install SS 3.4...you're livin' the good life in Kawasaki, Mikami.
  19. I don't think the program makes a difference. I use Real as my library but also have songs loaded in SS, WMA, and Musicmatch and I can digitally record via the soundcard from all programs.
  20. I record from my digi-out on the computer to md and hi-md recorders all the time without any hassle. I'm wondering if SCMS rules/ laws apply to sound-cards regarding copying from md-deck digi-out to computer digi-in. MattJ, sorry to read about the hassle you have to go through...
  21. oh yeah, that SCMS thing...that explains why I can't record from digi-out of my deck to md. So how about soundcards?
  22. If I go digital-out from a deck to digi-in on a md-recorder, I get a "no-copy" message. Why would digi-out from a deck to a digi-in on a computer be different?
  23. To erase the discs, plug your unit in to your computer via usb and open sonicstage or realplayer, whichever program you use to transfer music to player. Erase via these programs.
  24. The eh50 and eh70 are common to find in Tokyo. They can be had at the major department stores such as Yamada denki, Yodobashi camera, Ishimaru denki, and Tokyuu handsu. If he is going to be walking through hotspots such as Shinjuku or Akihabara then he can get the players at small retail shops without paying anymore money. Both retail for less than 200 usd each.
  25. Yokohama Chinatown was packed today with women sporting their little dogs.
