All this maths is hurting my brain... can't we keep it simple? The number of times I've lost in a philosophical argument is identical to the set consisting of all the sets the same size as the set of things that are non-identical to themselves.

"God is dead" - Nietzche "Nietzche is dead" - God.

OMG = OpenMG. OMA = OpenMG Audio. They are essentially the same thing. Basically "OpenMG" is a container - it's the encryption/DRM for the ATRAC3 audio stream. OpenMG is the DRM managment software, MagicGate is a method of veryfing the DRM status of content on a device/media.
-
Hmmm... not sure how much of a rumour this is, but apparently AMD are about to do DRM too... From: http://warp2search.net/modules.php?name=Ne...ticle&sid=23898

If you have a full duplex sound-card, you can record "what-you-hear"... It will be one of your inputs...

Yep, Ishii, the whole block. One minute it was there, the next minute it was gone...

TIP: For those of you who do use Firefox, and have to revert to IE occasionally, there's an extension called "IEview" (for Firefox), which enables you to set Firefox to always automatically open certain sites/links/domains with IE. It also adds a right-click context menu item, "View this page with IE". Useful for sure, for Windows Update, etc. Oh yeah, I'm also a big fan of the funky animated favicon!!!! This forum is stylish!!!!

I got this in my email this arvo. I'm not the type to flood other's maiboxes with spam, but I couldn't resit the urge, and I thought I'd share it with y'all as well... I thought this was ABSOLUTLEY hillarious - It's the funniest thing I've seen in a while. But I don't know what that really says about me tho. Haha.

Over the last couple of nights I've had a hankering for cheese. Don't ask why... I can't sleep properly. I get up at 3AM and scoff a whole 250g block of camenbert or brie... NOW they tell me cheese is full of sodium... MZ-NH1, your sig sounds like something one of my music teachers would have said to me back in the old days...

Further to that, would MD to MD dubs incur a generational quality loss?
-
You could always FedEx it... No?

BETA 2 now available. What's new? D/L link above. Cheers.

SonicStage 3.0 happily supports Minidisc. Perhaps something is askew with your installation? Try re-installing the MD drivers. If that fails, please read the stickied FAQs for help. EDIT: This should be in the software support forum.
-
Direct rip and encoding on a PC is better. Plus, if you use an ATRAC codec to record your music on to MD (ie Hi-SP, Hi-LP) and then transfer to PC, you will incur a quality loss when you re-encoding to another lossy format - you're compressing the music twice. Plus if you are recording a CD from an analogue input, you loose out again.
-
Silly yes, but what happens if you download a track with DRM protection onto your unit, and you edit the track, thereby corrupting all the DRM data, rendering the track unplayable? It's stupid yes, but this problem has been around since the NetMD days.

Source: Reuters (article stolen from http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200505/s1379891.htm) So, what do you think? To me, this sounds suspiciously like the EMI CCDS currently marketed. What you get is a data section of the disc with the music encoded in WMA format at a horribly low bitrate - you can listen to the music on a PC, but that's about it. Sadly, if this goes through, it's just another victory for microsoft... My question is, what will this mean for MD? What about ATRAC3plus, Sony's technology?
-
I'll need to check to confirm this, but I'm sure the bitrate is 292 for both real and fake sp.
-
Don't forget, HiMD does have Hi-SP...
-
Unless evidence is provided to the contrary, I'm inclined to agree with Syrius on this one. Mikami, is the interface in SonicStage for transferring music any different from a traditional Hi-MD?
-
Another useful lossless codec for MD users is Windows Media Audio Lossless. SonicStage can actually interpret these files and transfer them to your unit (in HiSP/HiLP/LP2/LP4/etc. of course...)
-
It seems the MP3 conversion tool won't work with the latest version of SonicStage. The MP3 conversion tool is to assist a mass conversion of MP3 -> ATRAC3.
-
HiMDs can record in "WAV" format, it's Linear PCM. However you are still limited to using SonicStage to upload/download data. 2G HiMDs can play MP3s but not record them
-
That's what I wanna know...! I suspect fake SP tho...
