  1. However, I believe SonicStage stores it's tag info in it's own database.
  2. It's speculation I know, but in that case I do hope retailers will drastically drop the prices of 1G models just prior to the release of the 2G units. While I primarily think I'll stick with old-skool MD for now, I'm interested in the 1G units because of their full backwards compatibility, but, the ability to upload live recordings would be a real boon.

    Dvd To Minidisc

True, but you can get round this on your PC. Grab a copy of DVD decrypter, and you can get pass the copy-protect encryption, grab the AC3 stream, and the convert the resultant AC3 file to WAV with a program like Nero, and then burn to CD. However, I think PaulV was reffering to the digital copy of Audio CDs to MD using the optical out of a DVD player.
  4. Shit, that's a great price. I'm in Melbourne, where are you?
  5. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...5772930360&rd=1 Only 5 quid! Wow! What a bargin! At the time of writing, 3 had been sold! Feel free to disect to your heart's content...
  6. Title your songs with less characters. There is a limit to how much data can be stored in the TOC. It's a system limitation with MDs - the number of tracks that can be stored, number of titles, minimum lengths of tracks, etc...
  7. October - that's so stupid. It's a long time to wait - especially since those units are available in Japan/Europe and the States now. I wonder what Sony management in this country are thinking...
  8. I can't answer your original question, since I don't own a Hi-MD unit, but you should put up the accessories kit / pieces in "Classifieds" sub-forum - you'll generate the most interest there.
  9. Right, now I'm just INSANELY jealous. "Gaget Connoisseur" indeed. The smooth lines and minimalist stylings are simply amazing...
  10. Wowee! I never realised just how smooth the 710 really is! I like the arrangments of the buttons on the sides of the unit, my 620 has all of the controls on the rear face of the unit arranged in a cross shape. A little awkward if you ask me. Great pictures again, per usual!
  11. Why not? Provided you do it properly, the shouldn't be any problems, should there? Besides, the phones sony make aren't exactly top notch.
  12. It MIGHT be possible to program a Nero-Plugin that decodes your OpenMG files in the same method that Hi-MD renderer does... Ask Mr. MarcNet. Anything's possible, but no, a plugin doesn't exist at the moment. Why don't you just simply use SonicStage to burn your uploaded Hi-MD files to an audio CD?
  13. It is already possible in SonicStage (V3.1) to only keep the OpenMG (*.oma) files temporarily. It will delete the OpenMG files once your music has been transfered to your disk. The disadvantage is that files will need to be converted every time, but you save disk space, and on a fast computer, the extra time it takes is minimal. So that solves part of your problem. As for the rest, it could be possible to do a script, but not through any common interface. You'd probably need to program an application that would achieve this simply by sending key-strokes to SonicStage - a convulated way of going about this at best...
  14. Haha... formating your disk drive and reinstalling your OS from scratch will most definatley fix any software problems you might have. Perhaps we should just recommend this from now on In all seriousness, this is what the most hardcore of computer users actually do - since software operation isn't flaw-free, most will do this from time-to-time. In fact, the uber-geeks will create a bootable "unattended" installation disk that will completley install their OS from scratch including the latest service packs and updates, as well as the bulk of the other applications and software they use. An overkill perhaps, for your average Joe Schmo PC user, but not a bad idea.

    Whatever You Do

Try using the latest version of SonicStage (3.1) The link is available in this forum. Make sure you have your Sharp NetMD driver installed prior to loading the application. Once SonicStage is installed, you can try using Simple Burner as well - unlike SonicStage which is a "jukebox" application, Simple Burner simply let's you copy directly from CD -> MD via your PCs CD-ROM drive. Please make sure you read all the stickies at the top of this forum to ensure you have clean, error-free installation.
  16. That's correct. With NetMD, the only possible options are LP2 and LP4. This applies to SonicStage as well as Simpleburner. Although you can choose an "SP transfer mode" in SonicStage, this is not actually SP, it's an LP2 stream sent to the unit - and the unit records it as SP. This is why we refer to it as "fake SP" - SP mode, but not SP quality! To obtain the best sound quality on your N707, use optical SP mode in real-time. Otherwise, go for LP2 (or LP4) via your PC with SonicStage or Simpleburner.
  17. We should all keep in mind, that being Minidisc users, we may all be in breach of copyright regulations in one form or another. Under Australia's foggy copyright laws, for example, it is illegal to record TV onto a home VCR/DVD recorder - however no one questions the illegitimacy of such devices being sold commercially. It's the same for bootlegging - however I know that a lot of bands/artists will permit you to record their gigs as long as it is solely for personal use - ie. you don't distribute your recordings freely, or for profit. In some countries, bootlegging may be legal - it's just that bands frown upon it, and venues usually have their own policies against it - hence the need for "stealth recording" - although you may not be doing anything blatantly illegitimate, no-one wants to have their expensive MD gear taken off them. @ Low Volta - seriouslly, similar arguments for and against could be applied to recording Web radio. However, cracks are a different matter. And toxic - your point about google is silly. Google is merley a search engine - you can search for anything you want in there - software cracks, hacking tools, illict pornography - anything you want. It's the end user that types in the search. Encouraging or linking to cracks on your blog is not really a good idea, but it's your free choice. Not trying to start a flame war, but it's just my $0.02
  18. This info, about the collectors edition should really be up on minidisc.org. Add to that, units like the MZ-E630 and 730 plus the new Hi-MD/MD bookshelf units are missing from the Equipment Browser.
  19. Well I can't seem to find it in the forum rules, I thought posting (including links to) anything illegal isn't exactly acceptable in this forum, no?
  20. EDIT: Beta 2 now available, see below for details Hey Guys, Andre Wiethoff has just released a new version of his popular Exact Audio Copy program. I thought I'd let y'all know. What's New in This Release: * Wave editor and native interface stability improved * Many bug fixes (E.g. extraction engine crashes, CDDB problems, compression queue) * Added interface for CDRDAO for CD writing * Inserting all tracknames from Clipboard using Ctrl+Shift+V For more info & download - http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ Cheers, zero.
  21. BetamaxDatMD, you've done it again! This unit is truly amazing. It has a USB port to hook up to your PC too, so you can stream the audio from your PC straight to the unit... Now I wonder if it will do PC->MD dubs. It supports MDLP and MD Group modes, progressive scan on the dvd. I wonder if those speakers would be enough to really do justice to SACD/DVD-A.
  22. RE: Cool Edit. Do you have to pay for that?
  23. It doesn't disable anything. All other units are simply not capable of playing back mp3.

    Backup

But the point is, you can't simply replace the keys. The thing is stored within the OpenMG subsystem. This was tried before on this forum - in the old NetMD 3-checkout limit days - by replacing and restoring the "procfile" folder (located in your Common Files\OpenMG directory). While the right limitations kept on showing up in Sonicstage, the files could not be transferred or played - the encryption must work on many levels - tied through the software, hardware, not to mention the individual OpenMG files, keys, and those MS Access databases as well.
  25. Read the SonicStage help file and, IIRC, you'll find it doesn't support VBR MP3s
