  1. see thats my question to. If its SS that trashes your recording you have to bare with it. However if no one's reported problems with Sony's Wave Converter, why keep renderer around (besides for the alternative?)
  2. 2.3 fixed many serious bugs and just generally seemed to work better (even with the little things)
  3. you can make your own short USB cable by cutting it down. Once you cut it, peel back the rubber insulator and find the colored wires. then reconnect the colored wires to the same color wires (pretty obvious). Wrap it with electrical tape and you should be good. works for me and my friend
  4. ok so in order to use renderer i have to use SS to upload my recording anyway? doesnt this defeat the purpose?
  5. woops my bad lol somehow i missed that first line although giving the standard response to a thread like this is always a good starting point maybe you should try finding a MD lens cleaner and see if that makes a difference
  6. yup music and data can be kept on the disc at the same time space permitting. However you cannot access the music portion (if you play on playing it via the recorder) uness you're using sonicstage i do basically the same thing as you're asking, except its transferring files back and forth from school.
  7. what is it? just a way for the disc to be completely randomized based on some input?
  8. more than likely the distortion is from the data loss going from uncompressed > MP3 > Atrac (loosing a lot of information in the process). Try the following: put a CD into your drive and use SimpleBurner Or SonicStage to get it onto your MD. Does that sound fine? second: put a CD into your drive and use a program that can make MP3s (like WMP10 for example) and rip a song or two into a very high bit-rate, like 192kbps, 256kbps, or 320kbps. Then import this into SS and convert to LP2. Try that transfer. Any difference? If so its because the MP3s you were using were encoded at too low of a bit rate (probably 128kbps) and it was already missing a lot of data
  9. does this happen on all of your discs? does the player have problems reading back discs made on other recorders are you using SS2.3? are you using WindowsXP SP2? what are the specs for your computer?
  10. In using The Hi-MD Render i have a few questions. Does this only convert files uploaded to HDD from MD? If so is it the WavConversion Program that trashes uploads or SS, because if it is the later how is render any better? im a little confused
  11. there should be a version for your area that will be compatible with your device
  12. you could also get a smaller (cheaper) recorder for your gang and keep the MD around because as you mentioned you've already got a bunch of music for it
  13. actually i believe that SP2 fixed the update problem in any event your PC is more then capable. Maybe sony didnt optimize its code for AMD devices? (jokes, although i wouldn't put it past them)
  14. oh dont get me wrong i enjoy Atrac especially for very low bitrate modes but its easier to take an MP3 to MP3 then MP3 to Atrac (i'd probably still do my CDs in Atrac though)
  15. plus you can make your own EQ that just intensifies the bass if you wished
  16. you cannot upload anything recorded in Old-MD mode (this includes SP,LP2,LP4) you can only upload HiMD recordings (PCM,HiSP,HiLP,48)
  17. we got this one early this year Sony Grand Wega http://images.google.ca/images?svnum=30&hl...wega+42&spell=1
  18. Under Transfer Mode, Standard Transfer > Details > choose the option you wish then whenever SS hits an MP3 that hasnt already been encoded it'll do so automatically with your chosen bitrate
  19. i wonder if these encoders that do not work, use an unlicensed version of the encoder system or emply tricks in order to improve sound but it ends up screwing up SS conversions
  20. the higher the bit rate the less information is thrown out for Atrac (above and beyond what was already thrown out for MP3) and you get better quality
