  1. ^^^^ could be that SB ignores the 2 MB data requirement (ofr the titles etc...) needed when using HiMD-format
  2. except for the inconvenience of limited space... you should also realize that old MD-formats aren't uploadable to PC, even when recorded with a HiMD... your best shot would be to record in a HiMD mode, upload, convert to wav, edit, reimport to SS and burt no MD in an older MD format (well actually only LP2 is available, as the SP is rebatched LP2) nope, the cost and the lack of the OLED if you really dislike seeing your info in the dark... but check the product reviews/pictorials section for further descriptions and reviews of both models
  3. I'm sorry mister soul... but with my NH900 in combo with the RM-MC38EL and my RM-MC40ELK as well I get static on more silent recordings... the 38 still has the clamps (while I never attached them/one to the 40). I think I still have some recordings (of me peeing ) withe the clamped 38 attached and statics... I learned to detach the remote when taping more silent stuff... but for rock ... nevermind!
  4. I used to for interviews/lectures etc... but really, 8hours of HiSP in stereo is more than enough, otherwise take two discs...and if you want to take the trouble to use PCM, you really should realize that life is stereo! (i.e. please do not degrade sound and especially music with mono flattening) IMHO decent mono-mincs are only useful for close micing of separate instruments, but then you really should go through a mixer before going -> MD
  5. but why? if you need to get CD's onto your PC in a library or something, just use EAC (exact audio copy)... much easier, and if you mostly keep your CD's at your friend's place ( ) you could always borrow it back ( ) for a couple of days and rip to PC... I personally really do not see any point in doing this, but there could be one of course
  6. no worries k. even the errors were always for the good of the community in the end! still very glad to be a part of it, especially as it keeps getting bigger AND better all the time
  7. the RM-MC40elk displays the rec levels and allows keeping the backlight on continuously (with 1st gen HiMD's), which is a real blessing for stealth recording
  8. first, the mac compatibility and abscence of DRM are two very different and even unconnected things, the M-models just have some internal software that allows PCM recordings to be transferable to Mac but you can (with any HiMD-model) avoid the DRM-crud by: - unchecking the "add DRM when importing music into the library" checkbox in SS 3.2 - converting your imported recordings to wav (with the internal wav converter in SS 3.2) so you have DRM free recordings so you can just back up your atrac library by burning it as data to a DVD and reimporting, and you can share the same library on different PC's... but I guess you can't download songs from your PC -> MD and upload them again on another PC (and not with mac either I suppose)
  9. I think I read about this happening with SS3.2 as well... besides, I think it is more a prob with the recorders than with the software to be honest... like the editing bug the NH900 has where bits and pieces of deleted music pop up again or won't disappear at all... a lecture is quiet to midrange loudness (unless the speaker is more a shouter, but even then) so you should use 'mic in'. With 'mic in', you can set the autotrackmark to whatever value you like (30 min, 10min, 1 hour,...) so you will only get one or two rackmarks instead of the 'thousends' (or 50) with silence-triggered auto trackmarks... the only problem is that when going 'line in' this trick doesn't work... but then again you should only use 'line in' for loud sources so there will be less silence, hence less track marks, hence less trouble combining afterwards I really think this is mostly a non issue... I've recorded a lot of lectures/interviews/speeches/debates and a few concerts and I have never felt that I had way too much trackmarks... at all (except for one time when I'd set automark to 1 min in stead of 1 hour, which I did once )
  10. for all non-MD atrac/SonicStage devices there is our sister forum atraclife but one thing that could perhaps help... have a look in the downloads section over here as you can find a download for SS3.2 which improves quite a bit
  11. good, but really no need to wait, the software bundled with the NH600D is SS2.0 so you should install 3.2 anyway... you could do it right now so you have something to have fun with until the NH600D arrives as for the manual, just follow this link or download it at the minidisc.org equipment browser BTW: the NH600D can play the same formats as my NH900 so - PCM - atrac3+ @ 265/64/48 - atrac3 @ 132/105/66 (- atrac @ 292 = SP but as the NH600D is a downloader only you can't use it to create real SP, so not really useful) have fun
  12. ok, granted... the NH1 is a looker (I guess that's for most NH1 owners the big reason to love the little machine), but would you sacrifice features/useability for looks... I mean, get an NH1 if you like it, it sure is a good machine, but get one that's complete (so with the RM-MC40ELK remote) cause for one thing, the display on the recorder is so small and can show so little info that you'll have exactly the opposite problem as with the RH10... due to the strong magnesium alloy you could carry it out in the open all the time, but as there is nothing to see on the device, why would you want to do that?
  13. ok, but do you have any other device that requires SS? (like a Sony HD-based player etc...) 'cause if you don't, just accept the loss ('cause I have never read about any solutions on here I'm afraid) and find yourself a decent audio player/library thingy! ppl put up with SS as it is the only way to get stuff on/off their minidiscs or other Sony devices, but if you do not have to...why use it? there are much better applications out there (for free!) so give yourself a break and enjoy the no-SS life
  14. I dunno, but an ebay seller which obviously quotes wrong info when describing the (N-Am or Japanese) RH10 doesn't really sound convincing when he assures you it is a Japanese model IMHO just have a look at these bits (the phat parts are my comments): It's clear, this guy has thrown together the most appealing features of the RH10, NH1 and his own lively fantasy but what's even worse... he won't accept any liability for ppl buying this stuff based on his faulty description unless... I would love to see the Sony site that went this far out of bounds on their RH10 description sorry ninjat., I really am not mocking you, I myself haven't got a big budget and I have bought cheaper stuff which wasn't all ok before... and honestly, $229 (with this guy) or $300 (with for example 'buyfromjapan') does make a big difference... but with a guy like Jun Ibaraki (= buyfromjapan) who has a 100% ebay rating and is praised overhere a lot, you're at least sure you're buying a genuine Japanese import with all bells and whistles (I bought my RM-MC40ELK remote from him in stead of cheaper but suspicious sellers) anyone with such a lousy product description should be IMHO avoided like a rat with a foaming mouth and a big sign saying rabbid besides... certainly if you still have got the communication (email/letter) in which he promises you a Japanese import, but in fact just with a copy of his ebay description as well, you could always start an ebay or paypall procedure based on the fact that the product seriously differs from the product description... he has his disclaimer, but can he show you the manufacturers source where he got the wrong info? I think not... good luck and see you around on MDCF...
  15. that's quite strange... I'd guess it would be some PC fault (but granted...perhaps caused by installing SS kidding) as the datemarking is solely a SS application... except for the NH1, no HiMD model had an internal clock nor timestamp function, so I really doubt that this is an RH10 error
  16. ^^^ that link is pretty old... as you're interested in knowing about atrac(3+) bitrate's SQ and you have already ordered the NH600 (I believe), why not just install SS3.2 from the downloads section and you can compare all available bitrates (read the manual from the NH600 or from any other first gen 'NH' HiMD model to see which bitrates are compatible with the NH600) and use some difficult/complex music you love and some good gear (preferably the phones you will use with the NH600) to test it for yourself... no use in using only this old and awkward test material, especially when you got to install the SS software anyway
  17. hi and welcome to MDCF... but to be honest... no, at the moment it is not possible, sorry (well, actually the knowledge does exist somewhere out there (pretty certain at Sony's, but also at other places, there was one member on here that claimed to have recovered HiMD data) but the ones that have access to it won't/can't share it) so, no luck (yet), sorry for future uploads to succeed: - do not (ever!) edit your recordings prior to upload (including adding/erasing trackmarks), just upload and edit on the PC, as that is one major cause of errors - use SS3.2 (available in the downloads section) as it allows multiple uploads - do not run/open/view any other programs or even windows while uploading as SS is known to be an enormous resource hog - turn off the auto wav function, as you can always convert the files to wav afterwards and it's one automated step less in which SS can ruin uploading -... (these are all 'tips' I follow and also all I can think of right now, perhaps others have more tips)
  18. line in will always automatically add track when sound levels drop too low... so with a rock show, you probably won't get lots, but when recording acoustic shows, more silent stuff, better to use the mic in if you really do not want an overload of marks... btw, do not edit the trackmarks out before uploading, as that is one way to create errors almost for sure... just upload and merge on your PC after uploading
  19. ^^^^ what? without any crashes? kurisu, now you disappoint me sorry that was really mean
  20. as the NH1 requires the remote for certain functions, I'd never get one without the RM-MC40ELK... just have another look or get a model that doesn't require the remote that much ...or invest another $75 and get the RM-MC40ELK from ebay (buyfromjapan) as well
  21. I'm guessing you transferred them to MD by selecting all tracks in SS and then pressing transfer... to get gapless playback, you should either (in SS) use the album/playlist view, select the entire album and press transfer or use SB to get them on MD
  22. not really advice, but something to think about... I was thinking of buying the PX100 at one time, but then I realized that it wasn't really practical for ppl with hair longer than a few mm's to wear an over-the-head phone, unless you do not mind having the strange dent in the middle... as I listen to MD on the train to uni/work etc. I can't really use it, as my out of bed look is sloppy enough without a big dent in the middle so call me vain but for aestethic reasons, I limited my search to bud/canalphones
  23. well, they are very different: - the senns are buds, sit right in front of the earhole but I think the MX series are quite big so they won't really fit and I need to use the foam covers to wedge them in my ears. Believe me, this is pretty uncomfortable for extended use and my girlfriend can't even get them in her ears - the pana's are canal-phones, they are inserted in the first part of the ear hole. they come with three sets of rubber plugs so you can select the ones that provide the best seal without hurting... with the S-sized rubbers, I have very good seal and can wear these things for about 5 hours straight without noticing they are there (even though I must say that the first time you use canal-phones it is a strange thing and something that you need to get used to) granted, but there still is a big difference between the senns and the panas IMHO... the senns are pretty bass-less without equalizing, while the pana's aren't really bassy... hope this explains my view (I do tend to eq the senns a lot more than he pana's)
  24. ^^^^ a setting on the recorder that is remembered by the player I guess or the play-by-group-function is the actual setting that needs selection and all tracks is standard, as when I select shuffle on my NH900 it automatically uses all tracks and not just one group/artist/album/...
