  1. problem with the NH600? Well I have one and have no problems with my ancient Core Quad system; if its hardware then its your (modern) pc or you have a faulty NH600 or try a different usb cable or a different usb port? I have number of identical smartphones that use these tiny ports and one drops connections with one usb port on my PC but ok on another where as an identical phone has no such problems. strange.
  2. you should also try removing any appropriate usb devises from device manager. I find I have to do that if I switch between hi-md and netmd. And it may help to stick to a single usb port on your pc, I have no problems under windows 8.1 64 bit by the way. I havent tried the Zadiq thing and dont intend to as Sonic Stage works fine
  3. The B-10, are people referring to the Sony MZ-B10? if so then set to 1 track mode. when it stops then cue then play will move to next track and then play it. so 2 key presses? Thats not too hard? Is that whats people here are wanting?
  4. internal battery? surly there aint one? I hope not
  5. Thats why I have got another for my Mz-B10. If you turn it around so the sockets are outer most, then with a strap you can use it while walking with headphones? You could if you wanted drill a hole in the flap so a remote control could be inserted with the flap closed?
  6. well I bet I am not the only one here to have spare hifi boxed away some where
  7. SNAP. I have one of those from new oh 10+ years ago. But I use mine for a small Kodak camera. very useful little cases especially now Maplin has gone where other wise you might get some thing like this? Probably got it from there. They are quite sturdy and last well and dont seem to get dirty. They are soft cases though dont have a hard shell. If you need a case for some thing small then these are great. recomended from some one who has had one for a very very long time. Mine has 2 smaller pockets one with a zip useful for carrying spare batterys
  8. unlike the Sony decks not a single tiny rubber eject belt insight to stretch and refuse to eject? if you are happy with the sound then thats one extra reason to keep the other deck as a spare?
  9. you got the disc out? have you tried another disc? I wonder how long the discs will last as they are NOT just like cdrs - as they have a lubricant on one serface for the magnetic record head as it actually touches the disc surface i think. Maybe try a cleaner. I think there are 2 types - one to clean the optical laser reader/media heater-up-er and another the magnetic write head.
  10. My first was a JB930 but due to its lack of LP I never used it so I sold it to some one here I think for approx £60 - but then I also bought a couple for nice condition 940's for about that also. How times have changed. Sony always made nice looking and performing gear, I also have their DAB/FM/AM tuner ST-SDB900 the only shortcoming is that is aint DAB+ also.
  11. A Sony JB980 just sold for £499 on UK Ebay. Absurd. Any one want to buy my mint nearly unused, boxed one?
  12. There must come a time where there is a dwindling supply. So unless you are an oldperson looking at the clock or in poverty or have limited space ,or move around a lot, I see no point in getting rid of it. I have just had an Audiolab dab tuner fail on dab, so they can just go wrong....... what then?
  13. but how does that not aply to any grease
  14. silicon grease? lots on ebay for not much money? why not? https://www.machinedesign.com/motors-drives/article/21831576/engineering-essentials-lubrication-tips-for-plastic-gears-and-more-part-2
  15. if you use an external dac would there be any difference between them? Surly thats a must do these days with advances in dacs? I use an Audiolab 8200cdq
  16. weigh them? The 940/930 weigh much more than the 980. That must mean some thing? The NetMD of the 980 is dire, it is very slow compared to any portable. It therefore only has the "S" playback optimisation of long play modes to recommend it?
  17. why will they be lost? you can remove the encryption so they can be transfered to another pc or even convert them to mp3 - Sony included such a means didnt they?
  18. I seem to remember Windows doesnt like switching between standard and himd so if you were last doing himd you have to delete the references to md in "devices" ( incl usb) in the control panel and let the pc rediscover it all when you put a normal md in again. maybe thats changed but that was what I found years ago.
  19. The Sony MZ-B10 mini deck has type s. These days probably my favourite as it has small loudspeakers and uses 2xAA batteries
  20. i keep them in a double envelope in a box. The point I was making is that you can get rubber bands intended for other uses ( that will always be available?)
  21. I have used some rubber bands intended as pony tail ties. They aint the best quality but seem to do the job, and if they last a year then since I have 100's left thats no problem.
  22. I recorded a BBC 4 radio programme the other day on my Sony JB940 deck from DAB. I dont do this often these days as the BBC has so many of their information programmes on podcast so I download them onto my windows mobile. Any way had to do it this time as it seems The Archive Hour is not one of them. So there it is. How to play it back? Mobile make you lazy. I didnt want to sit in front of my hifi system. Lucky I have a couple of Sony MZ-B10s with DPC type-S, the small device with built in speaker, the mini deck intended for dictophone use I suppose. I had forgotten how good the little speaker is for voice. They cost me just £50 each from Ebay a few years ago. On a whim I looked there to see what chancers are trying to get now and I was shocked. £150-£200+ to you guv. Even the cheap non working ones were £50-£100. Gosh how things have changed. I suspect these days they are the best portable to get as they take 2xAA and also have a built in mic and optical in. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-B10.html
  23. A few times it has seemed like the site was down, I assumed was for maintenance? re burgers it seems there are a few decent ones in the UK. https://life.spectator.co.uk/articles/britains-best-burgers/
  24. I used to be an addict. I have 3xJB940 and 1xJB980 and 3 sharp portables - MT88/99 ( 2 unused) and 3 Sony NH600 ( 2 nice blue ones unused bar testing) a Sony MZ-RH1 and 2xMZ-B10. I should think about selling a few as I doubt I will ever use them all. And boxes of discs full of BBC comedy show recordings and Radio 3 early music & about 15 HiMD discs, 10 unused & about 50 or so unused standard discs bought when Sainsburys were flogging them off at £3 for 10 ( I think i was) Good days. Good memories.
  25. I have a number of JB940 decks one of which I have already had to replace the eject mechanism belt, that had been in storeage, but I got out to just give it a try. The one I have linked up to my hifi system hadnt been used for a few months & I always keep a disc in just in case I want to record some thing from the radio, off the fly. Today this happened and the disc wouldnt eject, I thought ah time to do this one so took off the lid and with power on and ejecting gave the disc a nudge. And it ejected and all seems good now, no need to replace the belt , well not just yet. So the thing to learn maybe is not to keep a disc in the deck? By the way the "belts" I bought are not the original expensive ones but a pack meant for tying hair as in pony tails, off ebay, they aint the best but about the right size and seem to work and are very cheap - I dont see any point in using the real thing as sooner or later you wont be able to get any so need to find an alternative source now, as the hardware I think can last decades?
