I just tested an RW in my MXD-D3 and it worked. I couldn't believe it. It took forever to read, but it did read it. Unfortuneately it started skipping pretty bad around the 3 minute mark of Track 1. So, I don't know if there are just too many scratches, or the player just can't keep up with trying to read the disk. After this CD finishes recording to my MD, I'll just try letting the disc play through and see what happens.

I was going for lunch a few days ago (I was on a job in Barrie) and I happened to come across a garage sale. I wasn't going to stop, but I saw an MD sitting at the edge of a table. So I had to look. Well, I found a few things. A pack of 8 MDs with 20 MD carry case, and an MZ-R55 for sale. This is what I got with the MZ-R55 (Click image for full album of pictures on this unit): The only thing is, the internal battery doesn't seem to charge. The person I bought it from said they weren't sure if the player worked on the internal battery at all because they didn't have the original adapter to charge it and the battery terminals had gone all green. I have the adapter, and I know the battery is recognized by the player because it did start to charge when I got it home but it would go off immediately. I since fixed that. I cleaned up the battery terminal and it still didn't work. So, I opened the player to see if it at least had power on the terminals when the battery was inserted and I didn't. So I bent the battery contact at the positive end a little bit to put more pressure on the contact and now it stays charging for a while. However, it will shut off charging after a while. I checked the voltage at the terminals and all I can assume is the battery truly is dead and the unit thinks it's charged, but it really isn't. The player does come on for a while with the battery, but as soon as the motor starts to spin it immediately shuts off. I believe the battery is dead. I have ordered a new one from Minidisc Canada. The player does work fine with the battery car attachment, so I can still use it. The other item is this pack of 8 MDs and a 20 MD case: And since I purchased them all, she said I could have the remaining discs she had lying around. There was, 2 Sharp 80 min (purple), 2 TDK 80 min (orange), 4 TDK 74 min (silver/gold), 2 Memorex 74 min (black), 2 Memorex 74 min (Blue) She was really nice about it actually, the entire set was 50 bucks. $25 for the R55, and $25 for the MD's. I'm glad that I got it, but it just shows that MD really didn't take off here in Ontario. The 8 Sony MD's, 1 was opened, the other 7 were still shrink wrapped and looked brand new. The other few discs looked heavily scratched, but I'm not sure if thats from use or just sitting. The player itself is in OK condition, but the battery terminal on the positive end had gone all green. I cleaned it up best I could and soaked it with WD40 to hopefully prevent it from doing that again.

I bought a silver one from another dealer, but the buttons on it don't seem as nice and sensitive as the ones on the remote that came with my RH1. They work, but not as well. Mainly the play/pause button is what I have trouble with. I have to push it pretty hard before it registers. It might be worth a shot, but I don't know if I'd personally go for it. Check your options maybe?

Oh really, I didn't know that. I been reading through the FAQ's and that and haven't found it yet. But it's good to know, I will re-record my MD's that were done from my PC later on. Just goes to show that I don't notice it I guess Lol, we all speak in abbreviations don't we?

Sfpb, maybe you can answer this question. Simple one I think. Does AAL conserve gapless playback? I can't remember if I have tried it or not, but I think I noticed slight pauses between tracks when I did this. SP recorded on an MD through SS isn't the same? I did not know this, learn new things each day Off to do some more reading.

If you get an MD/CD Deck, you can actually record direct from a cd to an MD without the need for a receiver. The only problem I think would be getting one that can play RW's. I'm not sure if my MXD-D3 will play RW's. I can test this later if your interested. I don't think it will though, mine is an old deck. I see you have the S1, that is a Net-MD capable player. Why not use Net-MD to transfer tracks in SP? I believe it will record in realtime, plus it is digital. I record to my RH1 and my 510 with the USB cable in SP and I find the recordings sound just as good as I make on my MXD-D3 from a CD. I hope this helps out a little bit

Thanks mate, I plan on getting a new stereo cabinet and dresser soon. Depends how work goes, but I hope it happens.

Ah ok, that makes sense. I did realize the remote I got with the deck isn't the original one to the deck. The one I got is an RM-D29M, but the manual says it should be an RM-D37M. I don't have full control of the deck from the remote, but the faceplate is good enough for me.

Well, my MD Deck came in today while I was at work. Everything seems to be working perfectly, already tried the high speed recording, worked flawlessly. It transferred the CD Text as well. I took a few pictures of the deck itself and some of the hardware I have it hooked up to. Receiver is a Pioneer VSX-818V, Cd player is just an Insignia 5CD Changer, turntable is an old Optimus Turntable. It's not hooked up yet as I still need to get a preamp. Speakers are 5.1 Surround Sound by Pure Acoustics. Cheap speakers, but they sound really good. I got them for a decent price because they were on clearance. So, heres the pictures. If anyone else here has this deck, I'm just wondering if you can eject either the CD or MD from the remote? This one doesn't seem to.

Ah, awesome mate. Great craftsmanship I like all the blanks as well!

Good luck, I hope you sell it. It's definitely a great deal. If I was looking for an RH1 I'd get this one from you. The discs alone are worth a decent amount.

haha I think I do too. I don't have that many players yet, but I do have a box full of MDs now. Probably close to 200 discs hehe I love MD.

Sounds like it might be a damaged solder joint. What you might want to try doing is spray a little WD40 in the connection to clean up the contacts. Usually thats the best way to get them to connect again, otherwise you'll need to open it up and re-solder the contacts to the board. Does the plug feel lose at all?

Cool, I read up on it here in the equipment browser and it does look like a good deck. I'll post some pictures of it when it arrives and after its hooked up. I can't wait

Just had a bit of money come my way through vacation pay, so I decided to get a couple things. Grabbed a pair of Sennheiser PX100's and a Sony MXD-D3 deck. Work lately has been getting scarce, but I have been saving all I can lately so I figured I'd treat myself. The deck seems to be in good shape and it's guaranteed against DOA, so I figured I'd try it out. Can't wait till the deck is delivered. The headphones are awesome though, still in the first few hours of using them, but they already sound way better than I imagined they would.

Breaking Benjamin - Phobia Love this album.

I wouldn't be against it, definitely more information available on the format the better.

Your very welcome mate! Your feedback is much appreciated!

I'm running Vista on my Aspire One and I'll say, it does run quite well. Windows 7 I didn't notice much of a difference in performance on it. Mine is the 1gb, 160gb model. XP definitely runs the best on them though, the Atom processor just doesn't have the guts to run Vista like my Core 2 Duo Laptop and Phenom X4 desktop. But, it is good enough for mobile internet and the like. I love my netbook!

Because it's a sexy model Nice find. I don't like the first comment though :S

Why not get some windex or something similar and try cleaning them off? It just sounds like it might have gotten wet. Someone might have coughed or sneezed on it.

Completed half of another trade with Kain_. He is still waiting for his discs to arrive, so I hope postal delivers his discs soon. 10 AXIA Happy Color MDs for 10MDs (5 Maxell Plain Style and 5 TDK Fine). Thanks Kain_!

Sonicstage 2.0 was nothing but trouble for me, I almost abandoned MD before I found 3.4 on this site when I first joined. Now I'm on 4.3 and man its great. It's not the most intuitive, yes, but its better than iTunes imo. The controls on the older pre HiMD models (the NE410 and my NF520D) are not the greatest, but they work fine when you get to know the unit. The RH1 is a little weird because half the controls are on the body and the other half are on the remote, so you do need the remote to use the RH1. But as I said, you get to know it. I love my RH1 now, I wouldn't use anything else. My iPod is just sitting, so I might give that to my brother soon or leave it with my clock radio dock. And drag and drop does not work for files on any unit. You need SS to work with the player.

Right now I have Dream Theater - Images and Words playing, up next is Awake. Whole disc is a Dream Theater discography. I love HiMDs.
