Well from what I've seen around my area (I'm in the GTA of Canada) and it's getting hard to find MD's. I just got 2 packs of 5 MD's for Christmas and I actually intend on buying quite a few more before MD does go under. I really like having my MD unit mainly because the sound quality is amazing compared to MP3's and stuff, so I would much rather have my MD unit. You can still get Minidiscs online though, there's still a lot of websites that have them. I don't buy anything online so thats why it's really hard for me to find MDs.

Man what I would give to see Iron Maiden live in the studio

I have looked at their website, but I never thought too much of it because it looked a little funny. I've noticed lately, when you search on google, websites will often come back with the website URL having part of the search in it and with a "-" symbol. I'd prefer to find a store with the MiniDisc in stock then I go in and buy/receive all at the same time. I don't really like ordering things online, mainly because of all the horror stories I've seen. So, ordering online will be a last resort and not until the summer. Thanks for the reply

lol, same with me. In my stereo speaker cabinets, I have 2 12" woofers, they may not be super powerful, compared to my dads 15" woofers that is, but they still sound great, and feel great too. With them, I knocked a few pictures off the walls in my place here, and a few things that were on my cabinets fell off (almost my laptop too!). With my dads stereo on fairly low, needles were falling off the Christmas tree His system has better built speakers, much better, but his amp is only 50 watts per channel RMS. That system is at least 35 years old now, but it still sounds great.

It is so hard for me to find Minidiscs in the GTA. The only 3 places I know of that have them, are Wal-Mart, Radioshack (none left now), and Canadian Tire. It makes no sense to me, ther only Minidiscs I can find in any of these stores are the Sony Color Collection discs, and they're 7 bucks a piece! A lot of the people on this forum are saying the discs are cheap, ie) 2 bucks a piece. $7 a piece for the discs is way to much. You can get 2 discs for 14 dollars or 5 for 25 dollars, but just the Color Collection ones. It makes me angry because I would like to get my hands on some different style ones. I'm thinking this summer I might order some online when I start working. I was just wondering what some of you guys think about the fading Minidisc era.

When I listen to music, I prefer to feel the bass and hear the trebble. I have a fairly old stereo receiver, Optimus Stav-3200. It's 200 watts total power. The amplifier in this thing is far superior to any other stereo system I have heard to date to be totally honest. I have heard a few Bose systems (I don't know the models), and all I can say is they sound OK. They don't have that punch that a real stereo system has. If you have a small cone, it can't move that much air, so your really not going to feel it no matter how far/many diferent ways they re-route it. It takes a bigger cone to move more air, so you feel it. The bigger the speaker/more power it can handle, the better. The bose stuff on the other hand, sounds alright. Theres no punch to it, no fulness, no liveliness in the sound. It just doesn't have the dynamics that a decent stereo receive has. My stereo receiver was $799 brand new when it was bought, and its still going strong. The only problem, is the FM tuner. It doesn't tune in stereo anymore, I need to put it on mono The speakers I have hooked up to it produce very good sound, and they were built by uncle about 35 years ago. I have to agree with what everyone else is saying so far here, Bose's stuff just isn't worth the "hype". Go somewhere else and get a real, powerful system.

same goes for me, im only 16 so i dont have much money going around to get many new mds. especially ay 7 bucks a piece for a single 80 minute md ah well, this summer ill have a decent paying job (hopefully) then ill save up my money and buy some md's and maybe get a new laptop
-
i just bought 2 MD's, came to 14 bucks or so. i got them at canadian tire, but the canadian tire website requires a postal code, so heres the link at the source (radioshack) The Source

cheers to that!

i just got 2 new md's im so happy! lol $14 for two discs though ah well. well worth imo

well, for starters if you record with sonic stage, its going to be faster. you encode the music, then record it to the MD. doing it in realtime, will take, realtime. the quality may be the same, but i have a feeling it will be better than using sonic stage. lp4 doesn't sound good to me at all (im a bit of an audiophile ) so i tend not to use it. i use LP2, but i use sonicstage mainly because i have to. i dont have a very decent MD player, just an MZ-NF520D (D = downloader from what i hear) and it requires i use usb. theres no recording line in. i wish i had a deck anyway, i hope that i helped a little bit. if not, just post back, im sure theres others here willing to help

I've been corrected I didn't think it was possible with a NetMD thought. ah well
-
currently, its gotta be either UFO's You Are Here or Iron Maiden's A Matter of Life and Death. Both equally good albums.
-
i dont think you can make LP4 recordings without a pc. besides, lp4 doesnt sound very good (depending on your listening preferences). to me, i cant listen to music no encoded in lp2 or higher, it just doesnt sound any good below that.

i never understood why there are so many different designs on the minidisc, they are all the same basic thing aren't they? me? i prefer the basic md's, i find they look about the nicest. i like the ones in the picture there under the Axia Memorial text (in the case) those look simple. i don't mind the ones at the very top center either. they look alright too. too bad that they stopped production on them. it looks like the beginning of the end to me. i hope to round up as many MD's as i can soon for the future (i love this format!)

thats weird, it sounds like the internal circuitry may be damaged. perhaps something is blown and when a higher voltage passes through it, it won't power up. try using a rechargeable Ni-MH battery (the voltage is usually 1.2v up to about 1.33).

i bet, you could get the RH10 fixed. open it up, and see if theres anything that looks out of place, its worth a shot. if its dead anyway. good luck though, too bad about your player. i love my player and idk what id do with out it

i have 1 with all my favourite songs, and then 5 others with just random albums on them. this christmas im getting 10 new MD's and to be honest, idk what ill be putting on them yet

What's your favorite band/artist/group, and why?

I'v been listening to a lot of different music lately. I recently started listening to UFO after I discovered them through Iron Maiden lol I got the "Best of the B Sides" album by Maiden, and it had "Doctor Doctor" on it (cover of UFO) and I decided I'd look more into UFO. I was very surprised at the type of music they were when they first started. Early metal, and I liked it. So I got a few of their albums and love em all. Besides UFO, I listen to a lot of music, like Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, The Cars (have 2 Vinyl albums ), Megadeth and Metallica (Not so much anymore, kinda drifting away from the heavy stuff now). I have over 1500 songs by about 90 different artists, so I have a decent sized collection. Though, not as massive as some peoples. -
iv done this before. my mz-nf520d survived an entire night under my arm.

so sorry for the long time between replies, i totally forgot to take the pic >_< anyway, here it is: its 2 X 2 AA battery holders hooked directly up to the usb cable. the battery holders are in series, thus giving the 5 volts needed (it will be 6 or more with regular AA batteries, but because i use rechargeable, it works just fine. if you want to regulate it to 5 volts, i suggest you get a 5 volt regulator (can get them for like 25 cents each) sorry for the terrible quality, need more pics? dont hesitate to ask heres something else i been working on lately. its an MD holder made out of that kids toy, K'NEX. it works quite well for building things like these. iv only got 6 MD's, 1 is actually dead but i hold on to it because i don't want to throw it away (hoping to get some more soon though)

i havent used CDEX, but i have had great luck with audiograbber. the latest release is free, and you can use a lot of encoders. www.audiograbber.com-us.net

i havent bought them yet, but im trying to get some 80 min MD's. these things are getting so hard to find. Bestbuy, futureshop, and radioshack (the source here) they don't have any. i found a pack of 5 at walmart, but they were open gonna keep on looking though, maybe i'll get some online.
