  1. It seems like they think you're complaining about the plastic packaging of the individual discs (Sony factory packaging). Did you specifically tell them that you are not pleased with the way the entire order was shipped (eg, that it came in a plastic bag, no padding, etc)? I suggest you clearly tell them what you're unhappy about - for example, telling them what you just told us - that Sony would probably not have shipped the discs in a plastic bag and it is Musician Friend's packaging department about whom you are complaining. Explain it to them as if they are mentally challenged and in more detail. I just find it strange how our experiences with this company are so different. I'm not the only one who has ordered from them and this is the first complaint I've seen about them. Good luck.
  2. That's weird. Here is a pic of the shipment that I received from Musician's Friend - 12 blanks total. I would call/e-mail them and ask what happened. As you can see, the package that I received was well-packed (there was a top-layer of packing material that I removed for the pic), secure with shipping slip and receipt, and hand-delivered to my door (I can't remember what company they used, but it was along the lines of UPS/DHL/FedEx) in a matter of 2-3 days.
  3. It looks like his/her MDCF username is the same as his/her eBay one. You can find him/her (and the store) using the "Community" link at the top of the eBay main site. The deal posted here is better than the eBay store's price though (for the USA at least).
  4. I think that's going to be a little difficult. One thing that you can do as an individual to spare yourself from seeing things like that is to click on the poster's username prior to reading the post - if they are a first-time poster, then it is likely it's spam. Plus, most of the titles of the spam posts usually look very odd and have misspelled words. Just exercising a little common sense and precaution should be effective/helpful enough as the Mods/Admins are busy enough as it is protecting the forum from "real" threats.
  5. That's too bad. When I got my N505 from a friend who abandoned the MD format, MiniDiscussion was one of 2 websites that was recommended to me.
  6. Very true. If you buy at least 4 blanks from Musician's Friend, then (taking into account shipping) it comes to US$5.48 per disc. MF charges a flat fee of $5.95 for orders totalling below $50 (so 12 blanks max) and increases by only a few dollars after that. If your total is $99 and over, you get free US shipping. But, my experience is only with blanks, so I'm sure shipping differs per product. I like this option better as you don't have to wait for a 5-day eBay auction to end. I think I know what eBay sellers you're using and they're becoming quite popular, making it hard to keep the auction price below $5. I bought 12 from MF and it came to a final price of $4.49 per disc and took about 2 days to receive shipment. Note: I'm in no way affiliated with Musician's Friend.
  7. Warning: Don't look at Rich's pictorial for too long. You'll suddenly find $300 missing from your bank account and an EH1 on your doorstep.
  8. No way. The EH1 beats the E10 by a mile. The EH1 is hard to find for cheap, but the E10 is hard to find, period. Never pay Sony for repairs (such a ripoff) - you're better off getting another new/used unit.
  9. MinidiscAccess and MiniDisco have also had those MD bundles for sale.
  10. This sale has been going on for quite some time now. They also had the Sony 80min standard MD 5-pack on "sale" for $2.99 not too long ago. Then, all of a sudden (whether due to being sold out or "whatever"), the 5-pack became "out of inventory" and the waiting period was over 30 days. When they finally came back in stock, (about 2 weeks earlier than stated) the price had changed to $8.99. Not that I'm saying that this is a trend over at MF, but it could happen to the 1GB MDs, too, so don't be the one stuck with a long wait (and potentially higher price). There's no limit on how many you can buy, but remember that once your purchase totals over $50, the shipping price will increase a little. Check their shipping policies carefully.
  11. I'm with A440 on this one (if they can ship to your location). I've ordered from Musician's Friend before. They have a shipping rate of $5.95 for any orders totalling below $50. I got my 1GB MDs in about 3 days. Good e-mail notification and quick, easy service. Recommended. Ok, I sound like a long-winded eBay feedback.
  12. Those are the reasons why I skipped over that generation. No flames here. I'm in agreement with your thoughts on the 2nd gen. But, on the other hand, I can see why some people do go for them - the RH10's display; having the option of mp3 playback (crappy or not); some don't care about recording in legacy format; the RH910 is a cheaper alternative if you can't afford the RH10. Can't help it if some people want a unit with a nice sound AND a nice look to it. You'd have to see the EH1/NH3D in person to truly appreciate their looks and heft. For some, aluminum/magnesium is much more attractive than a hard plastic whose color may fade away after time and wear. One material isn't better than the other. It just depends on what suits your needs/preferences and your wallet's logic/ability.
  13. I think it also depends on which 1st generation units you're talking about. Some of the top-of-the-line 1st gen aren't as easy to find anymore. - NH3D (very difficult) - EH1 (getting difficult; price seems stuck at around US$300; very limited sellers) - NH1 (not as difficult, but most stores won't have it, although still available new at eBay or Japan-Direct) All 3 have the HD digital amp just like the NH900. But, they come with the best remote (40ELK), all-metal casing, and small size. As it's been said many times before, the sound quality between the 1st and 2nd gen is subjective. Right now, Amazon.com has the RH910 for US$175 and it qualifies for their free shipping (5-7 days), although I've seen new RH910's on eBay for as low as $135-160, including shipping. Good luck!
  14. Here's the MDCF description of the NH900: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH900.html Here's the one for the NH700: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NH700.html I'd list the differences for you, but I don't know what characteristics in which you'd be interested. One thing to note is that there have been some reports of the NH900's jog dial malfunctioning. Haven't read about anything significant happening to the NH700. Also, if you get a radio remote (37lt or 39lt), they are said to work with the NH700, but will not fit the NH900. As far as trustworthiness on eBay, I'd say it's buyer beware, but there have been many successful sales and happy customers on eBay as A440 said, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'd check what the seller has sold recently (like if they are MD units or electronics of the same caliber). Good luck!
  15. Yeah, I was hoping for a new Hi-MD deck or player-only unit. We'll just have to see.
  16. Hehe, Rich. I was hinting to Stuge to leave that info off of a public forum and PM you.
  17. And since you're in India and he's in the Netherlands, this information is useful to you how? Remember that curiosity killed the cat. If Rich hasn't mentioned how much he spent on taxes/etc by now, then perhaps he'd like to keep that information off of a public forum, no? Have to respect other people's hints and wishes.
  18. You missed the point, which was that the taxes charged depend on your local customs. Price Japan (where Rich got his deck) doesn't charge any taxes themselves. Read carefully, Stuge.

  20. For new or used, it's called Amazon or eBay.
  21. Good to hear. The 600D is a much better choice than the NF610/810.
  22. That is something that you should have asked the seller prior to bidding. Just a small tip for your next eBay electronics purchase. It will help avoid any nastiness or finger-pointing should the unit be faulty or not up to par.
  23. Isn't the silver going to be for the Japanese market only while everyone else gets the black?

    Sharp IM-MT899

Ok, I think that both Belletristik and I were under the assumption that you had the unit's USB cable, which would enable you to edit discs (using the main unit) via computer. Your question wasn't as clear as I thought because you certainly can edit discs by only using the unit, just not the way you were intending to go about it. I didn't know you wanted to do actual disc editing on-the-go and without NetMD/BeatJam/SonicStage (computer). The only way that I can edit discs by only using the unit (no computer involved) is with my MD deck. Sorry for the misunderstanding and it's too bad about your Sharp.
