I think it's about time I pimped Damaged Gears. Not my blog. I just like to pester the guy (or girl - lol) running it. Check here: http://damage.wordpress.com/tag/headphones/page/2/ for a review of the EX90. It's a 5-part job (currently on Episode 5) so be sure to click to the next page to see the rest of it.

No problem and don't worry, there are quite a few Sharp MD users on this board (I've got 2 myself ). Lots of Auvi fans here. It's just that Hi-MD is the newest technology out there for minidisc, and unfortunately, there are no Sharp Hi-MD units so Sony will dominate the forums most of the time these days. Sharp, Kenwood, Panasonic, etc, are all welcome here. 2. NetMD-created discs will play in MDLP-capable players. I'm not sure what decks are NetMD-capable (try checking the Equipment Browser again), but you can always just get an MDLP-capable deck (or an MDLP-capable portable would be even cheaper, depending on the model) to make discs, too. Just in case I got confusing, my understanding is: NetMD = music is put onto disc in LP2, LP4, or SP format via computer only; MDLP = music is put onto disc in LP2, LP4, or SP format via computer, line-in, or mic-in. 3. RobShaz made a thread on T-Board (http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32079) where a button sticking issue was addressed with the Sony NH900. You can look there for some inspiration.

Yeah, I think it's very dependent on your area. Over here, there's at least 2 major retail electronics stores that always have 1GB blanks on their shelves. The RH1 just came out this year so I doubt that JB salesperson is right about the 1GB blanks no longer being made. He/She probably got "not being stocked in the store anymore" confused with "out of production." Most electronics store workers, including SonyStyle people, don't know much, if anything, about MiniDisc or Hi-MD.

serg3: Welcome to MDCF! Try this link for the user manual for your 480h, which I'm assuming is the DR480/h? http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sharp_MD-DR470+DR480+DR7.html (Click on the green link at the bottom. Although it says "DR7," the link is actually to the manual of the DR470, which is your DR480 without the charging cradle.) Good luck!

Oh, my bad. I didn't mean inventory, but more like, do the products featured in their site stay the same or do new things pop up every now and then so that you have to habitually check the site. I was just being lazy and wanting to know if anyone who frequents PJ a lot knows when or how often they update/add to their material. But, question answered.

And, instead of letting more little guys get a DH10P for $99, you would rather deprive 2 of those little guys from a nice product at a great price by hoarding/stashing/collecting extras for yourself. With your line of logic, they're still missing out - lol.
-
Wow. That is not too bad and way better than AudioCubes' pricing. Does Price Japan's inventory always stay the same or do they add (or remove) things occasionally?

Pramit and digitallimits operate under the same company, Shewas, based in California. I've had some friends buy new NH700s from them many months ago - one auctioned for $80, shipped, and another with buy-it-now of $125, shipped. Their auction and buy-it-now prices run higher now that they've become a popular seller. That forumer had problems with pramit because they 1) bought a used unit, and 2) it was specifically auctioned as "as-is, no returns," yet that forumer tried to return it. Edit: I'm thinking that their used units are all customer returns as these 2 sellers have a 1-year warranty on all their new units. If you buy used from them, you're taking a big risk. You'll either get a used unit that they were able to fix, or one that they couldn't fix. Good luck!

If I'm reading his/her post correctly, the USB port on the MD unit (not the cable) is broken and the little tab inside has snapped off. He/She wants to know if they can replace that broken piece/tab by soldering a barnacle USB connector onto the MD unit instead. So, the USB cable isn't broken. The MD unit is. moeburn: If you're successful, please post those results!

That's a big (if not the biggest) plus of the M100/RH10 over the RH1 for playback. If this is your first MD recorder, then you'd really have no use for the RH1's ability to upload legacy. Also, your M100 has a removeable AA attachment, which I think is another big plus over the RH1, especially for live recording. $249 is a good price. It pays to be patient and vigilant, eh? Congrats!

I don't want to tell you which one to get. I'll leave that task to the others - LOL. I use an iPod (5G, 60GB - got it as a gift so I didn't really choose) and MD/Hi-MD and I'm happy with both for sound quality; each has its own "bad" points. But, I can help you out with the basic iPod info. You can look here for the iPod generations: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod. It gives the components of each generation and some very helpful pictures of each unit, their capacities, and their release dates (at the bottom). The 6th generation iPod isn't out yet, although there have been a lot of articles on the "fake" 6G that had a touchscreen. It won't tell you the iPod generation on the box (at least mine didn't or I didn't notice it); you just have to know what they look like and what they can do. Also, if you're looking to save a little money, some people purchase refurbished iPods from the Apple website. From what the people with iPod refurbs have said, they're pretty much in new condition (e.g., the covers are new and scratch-free). You could also go with other players out there like the iAudio X5/X5L or Creative if you're still anti-Apple. Again, I'm not pushing you to the iPod (or the RH1). Just helping out so that your iPod knowledge goes from zero to more-than-zero. I think when shopping for electronics, it's good to be in-the-know about things and not base a purchase on what's popular or what someone else thinks is awesome. Afterall, it is going to be YOUR player. And, for reference, I've been using the iPod more because of convenience during the hectic school year. Good luck!

lol No problem. I love when posters take the initiative to get info first via searching and what-not instead of completely relying on future replies to their threads (and then complaining when they don't get an answer in a few hours). A+ for you. And, in case no one has said it, welcome to MDCF!

Shoot a PM to the mod, "richyhu," if he doesn't reply here. He's also located in the Netherlands and has experience with importing minidisc units - check out his MD inventory as proof. Good luck.

And to this day, being under 21 still doesn't stop Americans from drinking.

Poster is asking if the N510 unit's USB port, not the USB cable itself, is proprietary. (Edit: lol We all know the cable is not proprietary. I also use it for my WD Passport portable drive.)
-
I don't think that port is proprietary. I use the same cable for my N505 and NE810, both older, NetMD-capable models like your N510. That cable also fits the NH600D, a Hi-MD NetMD model. A standard USB/Mini-B cable? I understand what you mean and I think you're right that your N510's port might be bent. Edit: Some pics might help confirm though. Good luck.

I think it's the opposite. I feel the V700 are terrible in comparison to the D66, sound-wise and comfort-wise. I've tried the the V150/500/600/700 and they are all shitzu if compared to the D66. But, of course, sound quality is subjective and to each their own. However, the Eggos are by far one of the comfiest, under-$100 headphones out there. Just curious. Where did you read that the V700DJ sounds better than the D66? You should go to Head-Fi.org's headphone forum and do searches on "V700DJ or V700" if you haven't already; I think you'll be surprised with the comments. There are some D66 reviews there as well. I've tried the D777 Altus and although they are comfy (can't comment on the sound quality because the store was blasting a J-Lo concert), I'm pretty sure I won't pay $150-200 for them. Edit: The D66 are only available in Japan so you'd have to get them from internet stores mentioned in this forum. If those stores run out, then you'd better find a pal in Japan to hook you up or camp out at eBay. Good luck!

Member's profile says: "Minidisc units: MZ NH-900, MZ B100"

None of the above. It's a "I should've read up on Hi-MD technology before buying a 1GB disc for my R50" moment. Just playing and welcome to MDCF. I'm not sure what your 1GB disc wrapping said, but all of mine say "This disc is only for use in a Hi-MD recorder or player that features the 'Hi-MD' logo." You could always upgrade your R50. There's an RH1 that you might like. Edit: This is kind of on-topic; here's something that MDX found: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-MD-Walkman-Minidi...tem280047599420

I won't speak for the others, but I'm sure enough that I'd be willing to bet your life on it. Plug in any non-tuner remote into the NHF800 and you will get no radio reception. Plug in only headphones into the NHF800 and you get the same thing. Plug in a tuner remote into specific radio-capable models like the NHF800 (they have a different remote jack compared to non-radio-capable models) and you will get radio reception. From my understanding, the radio is powered by the MD unit via the remote jack, but radio function lies in the remote, not the MD unit. Hope this clears your doubt.

Improved the sound? Are you sure you weren't reading about the hack that adds (see RobShaz's page) the following? The SOUND menu now contains: 1. S-OFF: flat, no EQ effects. 2. V-SUR: Virtual Surround ("Virtual Headphone Technology Acoustic Engine") 3. S-EQ: Equalizer, with seven steps of adjustment (-10dB to +10dB) in six frequency bands Also, try http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16494. Read posts #6-7. Old thread, but it could be your answer. And, look at the suggestion in post #8 (again).

Yeah, but your location is the USA.

Sell one (or two) of those gold NH1s. Have a safe trip back home. I still need you around for the "Smileys Get No Respect Sometimes" campaign.
