Is your Sat up and running yet ?

I have the AT822 , and have tried it with the DR1 , it will depend entirely on the Sound Level your recording and How picky you are about noise . I am probably a lot more picky than others , so take what I say with a grain of salt , but #1 , Loud concert , Taiko drums , outdoor festival with lots of sound = Yes , I would use the 822 #2 , Very soft , solo instrumental , Classical guitar recital etc. = No I would not When I need more finite control , I use a special cable that has attenuation built in , to come from a Small mixer or preamp that will do justice to a GOOD set of mics, into MIC1 input , and thereby gain the effects processing . I did this recently at a studio where I was recording an Irish band , Main mix from the Mixer into the Multitracker for Song separation ,and main effects processing . The Tape outs of the mixer thru the special cable to Mic 1 input ,Limiter =ON , Low Cut filter =40hz , Mic gain= mid , Rec level =6 , MP3 = 192kbs Dr1 for recording the entire set for archival purposes , the Multitracker for production purposes . The louder the sound the less Gain you have to use , which means Less Noise as well , it is a Balancing act , lose one gain the other and vice versa, So you have to play with it , in Ambient environments there is less "Apparent noise " because the White noise you would be hearing gets masked by Ambient noise . Same mic setup in a Quiet room , will be very noisy , but in an Ambient area , will perform much better . The very first post of this tread describes my going into a MUSIC store , which is Busy and a fair amount of sound , The AT 822 worked very well . at Home though , in a quiet room , I got a different impression . It depends ENTIRELY , on what your recording ................. For PRISTINE recording get a SONY PCM- D50 connect the 822 to that and be Happy . for Getting Fairly Good , but not perfect , save the Money and get The Tascam ( The Mics in the Tascam actually sound pretty good , again it is the QUIET ROOM , that is the issue .).............. Tascam= Effects for both Recrding and Playback ( selectable) Zoom = you dont have those effects , plus the loss of high frequencies in the Zoom were not to my liking ( I owned it as well) Sony = You get what you pay for ............ ( it is expensive , and sounds like it)

Tiger on PPC I can see , but running Leopard on a PPC is pushing it to far , like Overclocking A Dell Laptop made for WIN98 and putting XP SP3 on it with only 128 MB memory ,and a P2 processor .......... It will run , but there are a lot of things it just wont do . The Hardware and the Software have to agree . Secondly Sony hasn't updated MD Transfer to work with Leopard , it was made for OSX in it's earlier forms . Leopard is a whole new rewrite of OSX , Completely new architecture , and the programming language has changed a bit . So I cant really see MD Transfer running freely on Leopard , that is why I am still on Tiger . Leopard is pretty , .......... BUT .........

1/8" to 1/8" stereo cable , to the Line input of the iMac , You can go into Utilities , to Audio Midi setup and Adjust the input for Mic or Line level . then go to System Preferences / Sound and adjust the gain ( it has Meters so you can see the input level ) set the 900 to "Line Out" in the menu ( Audio Output) Next Download Either "Final Vinyl " from Apple Downloads ( Very clean recorder , good audio quality) or if you want something more involved , Audacity is another freeby Audio Recorder 3.1 also works and is VERY simple , multiple format recorder Final http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/audio/finalvinyl.html Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Audio Recorder http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17392

First off you dont RECorD onto a head cleaner , second he probably has the 200 in HiMD mode ( head cleaners are specifically Standard MD mode and wont register properly ) have him go into menues and set the Disc mode to MD instead of HiMd , then tell him NOT to Record , just push PLAY .

You dont come out of a Mixer to the MIC input , You go to the Line input , and You have to set the Manual recording level Line level coming out of a mixer will destroy the mic preamp in the MD , as you noticed Less "Skipping " on quieter parts , Get the unit off of the floor ( VERY bad place for vibration,) a Drum Throne , or a Well Cushioned seat , and a Foam box over the unit as a sound barrier(Maybe one of those Cushioned Thermal Lunch bags that zip up ) The R37 is sensitive to Sympathetic Vibrations ,.... then from the Mixer "Tape Outs " RCA jacks , to Line input on the MD , Push and HOLD the Pause Button , while Holding the Pause button , Slide the REC button and Hold it for two seconds all the way over , " Manual Rec " will appear on the screen . Then you can let go of both buttons , it will stay paused , used the FFw , and RRw buttons to adjust the REC level , Have the Band play something while you do so . Watch the meters adjust both Mixer levels , and Rec levels , to get a good balance , then Hit the pause button , and your recording

Not a dumb question .......... It isnt the " One thing " that makes MD sound good ,......it is the Whole combination , of the design itself . There isnt just one part you could take out , and put into another DAP to make it sound better , the Magic of Md , is that the Whole works together as a Whole , not as separate , The Mic pre is one of the best there is ( just function limited , it could have been taken farther , MUCH farther) , the Type of heads , and the drivers for them , the fact that the circuit is Analouge/Digital Mixture , you get the fatness of analouge and the benefits of digital RAM ,........ so many things that work in tandem inside the Md , that if you took out the one thing ,...... it would affect everything else . That is why the MP3 players wont ever get it . because the just dont get it . , it is like that kid back in school , whom you tried to explain how to do a particular Algebra problem to at least 100 times , and they just couldn't get it , flunked Math and went on to Art school instead ( not a bad thing in itself ) The persons who designed the Md had a Goal , and a desire to create something really special and imaginative , That is the Magic ........ everything else today is designed for profit and competition . The days of that kind of Magic are gone for now , technology is moving away from that , and that magic will happen somewhere else , that Magic happened with the Hubble telescope , That Magic has been replaced with Competition and Capitalism MP3 wont get it ..... it didnt have the same goal to begin with , it was designed for the purpose of Sharing music over the internet (Research the birth of the net and history of mp3) History of the Md http://www.sony.net/Fun/SH/1-21/h4.html

Xbox 360 lowers its price -- again Marke Andrews, Vancouver Sun Published: Friday, September 05, 2008 For the second time this year, Microsoft has lowered the Canadian prices of its Xbox 360 video game consoles, making the Xbox 360 Arcade the lowest-priced of the next-generation consoles and firing the first shot in what could be a pre-Christmas price war among the big three manufacturers. Beginning today, Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade by $70, putting it under the magic $200 mark at $199.99. Microsoft also drops the price of the Xbox 360 Console from $399.99 to $349.99, and the Xbox 360 Elite from $499.99 to $449.99. Elite = 449 for the Season sales .......... 375 shipped ... hmmmm not bad Chris .

Well I have to say that I appreciate your learning other languages , it is a sign of open mindedness, and appreciation of other cultures . We all need that . I used to speak 6 languages , but learning Japanese ruined all the others , ( It is the hardest Language to learn ) But now I start to see a LOT of foreigners who were able to get the Collegiate experience as far as language goes , and they are reading and writing Japanese , ( the envy , ohhhh the envy ) Keep it up dude , If I see a used one I will let you know

Yes that remote can be used , Only the B10 doesnt come with a remote , The differences are , B100 = 1 AA battery , and much shorter batt life , B10 = 2 AA and 40 hours ( with quick mode off) B100 =comes with the remote but costs twice as much , B10 = All function on the machine ( Speed control on the surface not hidden in menues) B100 = Very sexy looking , and just like most Really hot girls , a lot of trouble , B10= Blue Jean Girl , Likes beer , can go anywhere , and have a good time . for a long time .

I found quite a few , just using google search , http://www.etronics.com/p-54203-sony-mzb10...name=GoogleBase Amazon and others as well , there was a B100 ( 429 dollars ) twice the price of the B10 http://www.google.com/products?oe=UTF-8&am...0&lnk=qsugt http://www.egears.net/pd_sony_mzb100.cfm http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Sony-MZ-B10-MDLP-B...9QQcmdZViewItem ( Brand New NIB) Or if you want a Japanese one , ( The actual display is in English , all the controls are in Japanese ) you could send me the money and I will get a New (not used) one for you .

Baturjan , as I said earlier , the B100 had issues , and isnt built as well as the B10 . Just my two cents worth , If you want stereo you can always connect a Stereo mic , The built in mic records Voice range pretty well , Lectures come out quite crisp and clean . B100 = 2001 , and earlier version of Atrac , plus Mic noise suppression circuitry not yet fully realized B10 = 2003 (entry, and still being produced) Atrac DSP type S and Much better Suppression circuitry I will agree that the B100 LOOKS cooler , but it did have probs
-
Yeah they are 260 here on average new .( Japan ) The B100 had some issues and isnt as well built as the B10 , The B10 is a tank , very tough little unit . For learning it is perfectly setup , the only thing missing is adjustable recording level , ( which it does automatically pretty well ) but manual would be nice , as that it is an Educational MD recorder that feature wasn't deemed needed ( I have other recorders for that )

The MZ-B10 is the language learning tool , with a track mark button on the unit , built in speaker , built in Mic Made for lectures , and Language learning specifically . I use mine a lot .
