That does say something doesnt it , I have always known the the preamps in the Sony have been top notch , which is why I stated the D50 would be the only LOGICAL replacement , the preamps the the D50 are the same if not a little better than the Sony MD series The MZ-R50 is where Sony got it right the first time (I have one ) the RH1 is where they Finished the process by adding PCM capability and USB interface all in one , the only problem .......... No Limiter . Hence the PCM-D50 Same Micpre or Better , plus Limiter and Optical interfacing for hi end equipment .

well your digicam will also have sound as well so the finger snap , placed equidistant from either will give a good reference for locking the tracks ( if your in Windows , Whatever Video prog your using should allow you to move a track ) If your in Mac , then iMovie of iLife 07 will let you do that , I think iMovie 08 got dumbed down I havent tried it yet

Today , I spent 3 1/2 hours in the Studio with the Irish band , and we did mostly 1 take recording today ( No multitracking ) My setup was 2 - ECM 23F3 Sony Condenser mics on a stand going left right at about 100 degrees separation , and a Dynamic full range mic on a small floor stand close to the Vocals/Drum player . ( Decca Tree configuration) 3 mics to the Mixer Left / Right and center Mixer then to my compressor/Limiter Main outs Left/Right to compressor , then compressor to the Recording Console . As a Side mix , I decided just for General purposes , to come from the Tape out ( RCA 's ) of the mixer to the DR1 , I used a JVC - RCA to 1/8 " stereo cable that has attenuation built it by means of resistors ( Radio Shack used to have something similar I think) Using this cable Allowed me to use the Limiter ( or any other effects ) that apply to the Mic 1 input . The result was actually quite good , surprisingly so , The Limiter , let me crank up the gain ( Mic gain Mid , level on the dial 9 ) almost all the way up . What was truly interesting was the noise that is normally in the Mic 1 Input was NOT there , the recording was quiet , and the recorded material was Punchy and full . I usually use the MD this way , but I have to run the Compressor thru the effects loop witch then reduces my stereo image ( Mono Send , Stereo return , resulting in a semi mono sound ) Doing this I ran out of the MAIN outs of the mixer thru the compressor , full Left right in /out , and then full left /right Tape out to the DR1 from the tape outs . I wish I was allowed to post some of this , but I dont have permission from the band yet , I will try to get them to let me post one example from these sessions .

Import the tracks to Audacity , COpy Track to New Track , so you have two tracks, Apply slightly different effects processing to each track . Bam Stereo tracks It is called "Phase Variance" Or take the Mono Track , and apply a Stereo reverb or JUST a HINT of stereo chorus with the Chorus rate set to as Low as it can go and then increase the Depth to a level that satisfies you .

Not yet , I was kind f wondering that Myself , the New R-09 is sounding pretty good , I heard some samples from it The Headphone amp is quite an Improvement over the previous version , and for a little over a Hundred dollars less than the D50 , it might be worth looking at . But I haven't played with the inputs yet.

Not a stupid question , FLAC is a way of LOSSLESLY archiving audio . Just like ATRAC ( Adaptive Acoustic Transcoding ) is a Codec , Flac is also a Codec Flac Compresses the file , only without removing data , it works kinda like DBX noise reduction Big signal comes in , gets the ^$% squeezed out of it into a DBX encoding , then comes back thru a DBX decoder expanded to original size without the noise Flac Has to be played in a Flac capable player .

I like my 930 , except that if the disc has been recorded " Hot " I can hear distortion thru the headphones , If I am carefull to keep a little lower level in the recording process then the 930 is cool and plays all my discs

The RH1 senses resistance between pins 2 and 3 to determine if it is a Circuit or a Supply , the RH1 does not need a driver as you challenged , it needs to sense the presence of the computer , what is needed however is the ability to interface the software to the RH1 , the driver is for the software not the RH1 a 27 kohm resistor on pins2-3 will tell the RH1 to take the power

I have noticed this Chris , there are 3 settings of what skin you want to see , BDB MDCF looks cool I have it working now , and the Standard White version , but I noticed the IP Pro setting , and that is what was screwed up , nothing worked , no matter what I kliked I got a Blank White page with nothing on it .

If Your a heavy step walker , you will get noise from the mic wires , if you move like a Cat , think Ninja here dude , then you can get away with it . but then I was able to walk over halfway thru Nijo Jo castle without a sound , to the amazement of the guards there who were watching me. If you have Line in on your computer , open Audacity , then on the Tool bar ( Top of everything , klik the Audacity name for the dropdown of options , from there go to "Preferences " in Prefs , Look for the Tab , Audio I/O , in that tab , you select what input Audacity will take from . after that restart audacity . With Audacity open , put your cursor on the input meter and double klik it to make it active , play the MD and adjust the levels so the meters aren't peaking above 0 db , ( Never go above that , other wise you will get distortion ) whe your Hottest levels are just under 0db , then restart the Md at the beginning , and hit the record button in Audacity . You will see the Waveform scroll across the screen . Audacity isnt just point and shoot , there are settings that you need to learn to use it well , Quality of in and out , file types , How to convert to MP 3 by installing the LAME library encoder, display behavior , etc , then how to use effects ( There are many options in Audacity ) take the time to learn them by going to Audacity's website and go thru the tutorials . here is the Manual http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/audacity-manual-1.2.pdf

250 is a little high , they are going for around 125 nowadays , I understand that it is in good condition , BUT , a lot of time has past , ....... I would say the max you should ask for in PERFECT condition is about 150 -175 ,...... I would go higher than that . Just a suggestion( It is a Good machine though , dont get me wrong)
