Hey Brian , I also had the PX100 's like em as well , but I went to Akihabara one day , and found a shop that just did Headphones and Amps ........ Never saw so much ear candy anyway , I sat down with the intent of 100 dollars limit ........ The AKG 's won out , I use all the different Cans they had with my RH1 , they had to work with the RH1 ....... when I put on the AKG's a smile immediately drew across my face . http://www.akg.com/personal/K_420,pcatid,6...,_psmand,1.html Find a Head shop and check them out .
  3. A Couple of Plugins that work very well , for Getting Old records or Recordings to sound way better Voxengo has several freebies one is called " Stereo Touch " I have used this on older records (1970's and earlier) that dont exactly have a great recording quality to them and sound " Boxy " for lack of a better term With the Stereo Touch , Try setting the Side delay to about 50 -60 milliseconds , then turn the Delay Gain down to about -3 db or -4 db ( 0 db will actually raise the overall levels of your audio file) Then you have two very cool extras The HPF , and LPF filters , For Rumble and Low freqs that are unwanted enable the HPF and select the cutoff freq , also if there is a lot of hi frequency hiss , then use the LPF and select a cutoff around 17.2 khz . The recording will clean up very nicely . And instead of an Oldy Moldy sound , the Stereo Enhancement is JUST enough .. to add life to the record . Try it ! works very well . http://www.voxengo.com/downloads/?sortBy=date&group=11
  4. Sounds like we found the issue , That would indeed cause the problem , The MD needs a steady signal from the CD player .
  5. Rich ..... That was lame , It was put in Technical tips and tricks , because that is exactly what it was . Tips and Tricks , or a " How To Do " something , it isnt about the software as much as it is about How To Use it or the Process of doing something , I placed it where it needed to go . it at least should be a sticky , We always get these questions on the board ...............
  6. Todays experiment was to see how well Audacity's Data Embedding works . For Mac users : I recorded a Vinyl Album with Final Vinyl ( dont edit with right now it is crashing alot ) After recording ( which it does very well ) Save the file as ( Name of Album Side 1 or 2 ) Then Open Audacity , and import the file and get ready to edit and clean noise , Pops , Crackles etc First Song , Zoom in real tight at the beginning of the song ( Look on the toolbar for a pair of maginfying glasses one with a + , one with a - Highlight fro the first par of the song backwards to the beginning of the file , Go to the top menu bar Klik "Edit " Select either Silence audio ( if you want a little space at the beginning ) or Delete Which can be done just by using the Delete key on your keyboard , If you dont want any space at the beginning . Still in first song , but Zoom out , so you can see the end of that song , klik that area , and zoom in on it so you can see the fade out or end of the song ( Some songs end suddenly some fade out ) For songs that Fade out , zoom in fairly close on the waveform , and watch very carefully while listening very carefully to the very last audible part of the song itself ( at some point the noise of your record will overtake the sound of the song ) at that point Highlight backwards about 10 seconds or maybe more , into the song , go up to "Effects " select "Fade out " What this will do is create another fade out that will end with NO Noise at all , And from exactly that point to the beginning of the next song , Highlight -> Edit -> Silence Audio What you will now have is a smooth noiseless transition between song 1 and song 2 . Follow that same process for the other songs . So that all transitions are Clean and Snappy . Then , If you wish to Change the sound quality you can highlight , and work on just 1 song at a time , as they will be easier to select . EQ , Reverb , Limiters , Compressors , will all require some experimenting to get use to , as well as a Plethora of downloadable , AU effects , that Audacity is easily able to use . Tube Simulators , Stereo Expanders , or M/S ( Mid Side Processors for those of you who use M/S mics and are on Mac PM me and I can send you and effect or two for just that purpose . After everything sounds good playing all the way thru one time , Then we can separate the individual songs as AIFF or WAV files to burn to CD . So Highlight Song 1 , from where you want it to begin , to either the exact end of audio , or just a hair over if you want same space , between tracks on your CD . With it highlighted , Go up to " File " select ... " Export Selection " and a window will popup . Here you enter the MetaData for the Song , Album , Artist , Track number , etc ( Take the time to actually do this , you wont regret it ) Do that for each song , export all of them to the same place ( Desktop is best , unless you have a really cluttered desktop) Then make a folder , with the name of the Album . I use a program called " Burn " for Mac , it is FREE for one thing , it is Open source for another , and thirdly it is Rock Solid , and I have never had a Failed disc . Open Burn . Select Audio CD , from the menu , Then Name the CD , after that , Import the songs in the order that you want them to show ( One at a time , Burn registers that order for the CD .) Then Burn your Audio CD , I use the slowest settings , just for safety's sake . Then here comes the good part , eject the CD , Close Burn . Put the CD back in and open iTunes And import the CD into iTunes , iTunes will ask you to select the Closest Match to a CD Database , you select it , then it imports it with all the metadata , and you can then grab Artwork for the Album into iTunes as well .( Several methods for that , but that is a different topic ) Enjoy . This process is not that much different for Importing files from MD's , so have fun with it . Update : Also , the Wav files you originally exported from Audacity , can be Drop directly to HiMd , with the Metadata , and you will have song titles and all on your screen ! ( At least it does for me as that when I export I also name each individual file as the same as the Meta Data )
  7. That is a little disconcerting ..... I dont know what to say . Double check all the menues on your md. I did find this in the manual though " ●When making a digital recording from a portable CD player (if the player has a sound skip prevention function and this function is turned on) the optical output will drop out and digital recording will not be possible. Be sure to turn the sound skip prevention function off. If the Skip Protection in your CD Player is turned on , the Sharp wont agree with it .
  8. Yeah DIN Unlock = "Digital Input Locked " or signal isnt getting thru properly , so that means either the CD player isnt putting out ( no girl jokes here ) or the Cable is dirty , damaged or ...etc , or the Md isnt receiving properly . Basic troubleshooting 101
  9. hmm I wonder if the optical contact inside the MD is dirty ...... That can happen , also the end of the optical cables must be clean , very clean . Or they dont transfer the data correctly . Try using a little Alchohol to clean the ends of the optical cable , as well Take the battery out and uplug the Md , Disc out etc With the end of the Cable a little wet with Alchohol put it in the socket and turn it a few times , then remove and let dry for 20 minutes or so , then try the recording again ( Alchohol will evaporate without residue ) Benzine or Acetone , or any other chem will damage the Md so dont use it .
  10. Hey Culp , yeah , it was actually a hidden release to the US , first couple of them went to Sony Stores in the US , one of them I had a Guitar student at , in Fact I believe I was one of the first people in the US to actually hear an MD , as that , the day they got it in , My Student was practically jumping up and down , " Dude you absolutely have to get one of these " He recorded me on it , and played it back for me , It was a turning point in life . That was Late 1991 , just before any of the US stores got them , This particular was in Monterey Cali. And the Owner was Japanese , and had worked for Sony Directly , so it was an Inside gig so to speak . After that mid 1992 was the general release to the US , and the rest of the world . so I think when Chrispettit is saying 1990 he is probably generalizing , and that would depend on how old he is . If he is a teenager , then he is just well we wont go there ,...... if he is as old as I am , then we forget dates , and play horsehoes ( Close is good enough ) The MZ-1 .......... Sony PLEASE , PlEASE just make one more , for the fanatics like us , a HiMD MZ-1 What a ride , the past 17 years have been , I have been with my wife just a hair longer than I have with Md That is perspective .
  11. Yes there is a difference , and they are formatted differently as well .

  13. I went to Hardoff today , and got a MD drawer case for 300 yen ....... YAY ! But while I was there looking around I saw an RH10 - In Box , not a scratch , all accessories manuals etc , like it hasnt even been used . 20,000 yen ........ They are holding it for me . There is a Teac Md5 Mark 2 , and a Sony CD deck on the way to me , in exchange for a guitar repair I did . I will get those probably the 24th or so . Going to be a good week I think ! Wiz , I will have the money to send your package in a few days . it is ready to go .
  14. The only Option is Real time recording ....... just accept it . It is fun to do , it is a learning experience , teaches you about audio levels , there are tricks to learn . Make weak audio better , etc ................
  15. Hopefully together , with Low lighting ,.......... and say ,.......hmmmm a Good bottle of FRenCH Wine ????
  16. Are you aware of what these "Decks " Cost originally ? Trading for an R2 ( since it isnt an R2D2 ) is not gonna happen I can get a Teac , for you but it will cost me at least 250 US to get it , New some of them were well up to 800 dollars , some around 500 . It would be a 100 volt unit so you would need a transformer , then there is the shipping issue . People dont generally give up the decks . Portables ......... Ebay or here , or Yahoo auctions . But Decks , if you find one might not be a good buy , condition or mechanics , might very well not be as described , and has just become a white elephant to the owners . Be Careful
  17. God that would be soooooo sexy .............
