Yes , it acts as a Mass Storage USB device when not using the MD Transfer software , just double klik the drive icon instead of the software icon , and it opens like a hard disk . Mac OSX Macbook Pro C2D 2.14 ghz

Data Discs are only 5 bucks , new ....... I can still get them in Japan . I have a Yamaha MD4 myself . I also have the PDF Manual for the MD4 as well .

It isnt just the head assembly , the entire circuit and mechanism , everything , because the "Hi" in HiMd is in the processor , not just the disc , it is the Programming and software , not just the hardware . Power management , all of it . It would be a cool idea though , I like slots as well.

But It presents some very interesting observations ......... As in With a bit of imagination it might be possible to create a remote that has RECORD ............ On the Remote ! which would mean true stealth recording , with your HiMd .... Not Having to reach in the Bag or Sox , or Jacket or whatever Body cavity you might have hidden the device to turn on the RECORdING If in Fact it was trying to go into RECORD , then it Secretly Means , that it WAS possible , and SONY didNT Let Us HAVE IT !!!!!!

The Audio from the Doobie Brothers ," Wildlife Consevation Benefit DVD" Concert Recorded the the RH1 and now being transfered to the Mac for editing.

Bad unit = Probably , but two in a row ( Tascam replaced mine ) Effects = You misunderstood , No Effects in the DR07 , means just that ....... there are none . DR1 has Effects (Reverb, Chorus, Flanger etc) , DR07 does not . Glad yours is giving you what you need ,......... My requirements were different . LaFolia ..... I know how to work an effects processor , that is all I will say here ..........

on the Dr1 , the Mics are not mounted to the Body , they float in a housing and the Cables to the mic elements are VERY THIN and as a result any motion ( Walking jostling , whatever ) gets translated as static in the recording because the wires move . The DR07 Mics are hard mounted , or they changed the cable in some way , because I can literally jump up and down with no static whatsoever , nothing . Also , No effeccts like Reverb etc . in the DR07 , just clean recording . Next is the Limiter , in the DR1 it is a Software Limiter , that comes AFTER the A/D converter , and the Preamp , so it doesnt help as much as it could The Limiter in the DR07 is an Analogue Limiter that is ahead of the A/D converters and works VERY well . ( Beleive me I torture tested this spec) Next the DR07 runs on AA Batts instead of a Lithium . And the Battery Life is Formidable ...... You can do as you please , and NOT worry about juice , it will be there . The Inputs on the MD still win for external mic usage , an AT822 and the RH1 , are just simply perfect together . But no limiting , Nature Limit isnt needed , but Loud sources , a Limiter is a good thing to have .

Funny , at the bottom of the listing it says " No Known Recording " as you sit and listen to yours ................. Transfer it to MD before the Tape fades .

Nasty dent on the upper left of the 900 looks like it has been dropped and abused , no way would I buy it .

UPDATE The Tascam DR-07 , is a corrected version of most if not all my concerns with the DR1 The DR-07 , Doesnt have effects , but has a VERY good analogue limiter( NOT SOFTWARE LIMITER) on the front end . The Mics are nice , and the Quality of audio is quite good . My Hat is off to Tascam for having taken the time to actually have a Rep speak with me , and get my Ideas . They fully Implemented the KISS theory on this one . Dr-07 is getting daily use , and I have ZERO complaints , it just works . (Mic input is still a little weak , but I can fix that )

Bug Or Not Bug ,......That isnt the question , but here is mine . I have an RH1 , and I have the DS-HMD1 Data drive First the Data drive IS NOT supposed to work on Mac it is supposed to work with Sonic Rage ....... umm Stage sorry . But , If I FORMAT an MD in the RH1 , and put it in the Data drive , The Mac thinks it is the RH1 and then I can Drag and drop , MP3 , or Upload recordings that are in HiMD mode , .............. I think this is more of a Critter than a Bug , but kinda cool if ya ask me .
