Your best bet is a small Mic preamp to bring it up to line level , M-Audio Audio Buddy , or similar I can built a high end one for you but it will take a little while and then I have to ship from Japan . I have the parts for a 40db gain Mic pre , for unbalanced mics which would be just about right , It requires 6Volts battery bank (AA's in a Pack would be fine )

well the MD Transfer 2.0 is a U.B. so maybe it could be ported ? your running the Linux on Intell , maybe there is a way to get at the header files update .. I found this http://notmd.sourceforge.net/ it might run on Linux ( In fact on the requirements page it mentions linux)

Whatever you do DO NOT mess with the file system , you have a Linux box , what you need is a Virtual Machine with OSX or WinXP on it VMWare has a Beta out you can get for free (It is like Parrallels ) but you will still need an OS for the software . MD Transfer 2.0 is the Mac version , Sonic Stage is the Windows software . If you can get MD Transfer to work on the Linux that would be cool because OSX is UNIX based and basically Linux is as well .

Its a phase issue , the cable is wrong. With a SM 58 you have a Balanced out that is MONO and wired Ground Plus Minus pins 1,2 3 XLR to a stereo plug , the PLUS , and Minus are canceling each other and the MD is trying to compensate , SM 58 is NOT the mic to use with an MD it has to go to a mixer . Or you have to build a Special cable for it that will take the ground and the minus and bring them together , then the plus gets sent to the tip and ring of the stereo plug. Mono plug now the Sleeve of the stereo plug must have pins 1,3 , then Pin 2 from the xlr has the go to the Tip and Ring of the Stereo plug .

Yeah version 1 was no good period, they fixed the bugs in version 2 . This one has me buggered. the Mac side everything MUST be in HiMD mode , so the RH1 has to be recording in HI mode , with SS it doesnt matter Make sure you have the RH1 in HIMD DiscMode before you record anything you can find discmode on the 40elk remote or the menu's of theRH1 "Hold the menu button untill Edit displays , then use the jog dial to move to "Option" Select Option , then jog untill you see Disc Mode Select it , you will have Hi MD and MD to choose from . That is the only thing that is Mac specific That MUST be there . If you have the HI MD mode on and it doesnt recognized the files then something is definately wrong . Oe other thing is the USB cable , I have heard from a Number of people the the cable had problems. But you have it work on SS , then it doesnt on the mac, this an odd one .

That is because the output from the PC is a Constant State signal ,and unless the Software itself sends a track marker it probably wont , I have the same problem on my Macbook Pro

If You browsed the boards you would know the RH1 is fully Mac compatable Macbook Pro Core2Duo and Sony Rh1 , W/ MD Transfer2.0 works just fine. You can record in Full PCM (WAV) mode 16 bit 44.1 Khz and upload to your Mac

not really , I have the R50 and tried it with it , some functions would work some wouldnt , The 40 is basically compatable with all HiMD's and the HDD players that Sony makes Would be nice tho wouldnt it !
